This is counterfeit. Having never played or purchased a clarinet before, I was unsure at first. Today I stopped at a local music store and purchase an authentic Yamaha clarinet and the difference is night and day.

I only had this one for 2 days and no one played it. Having purchased from Walmart it was easy enough to return... just brought it to the customer service desk with the order number.

Funny thing is... I thought this might be a good deal because these are listed for almost $1100 on some websites, and this was only $599... but the brand new *authentic* Yamaha from my local authorized Yamaha music store was only $617. Should've went their first, lesson learned. It all worked out in the end.

Some dead giveaways that this was counterfeit:
  - No serial number
  - No paperwork
  - Had a bell ring, even though none of the photos show one
  - Thumbrest / strap loop were different than the photos
  - Yamaha engravings were cheapish

The overall quality was not good either, but I couldn't tell (as an amateur) until I had an authentic one to compare it to. My guess is that an experienced clarinet player would also certainly be able to tell by playing it.

Counterfeit. Not authentic Yamaha, not even close.
