Using DisplayPort on a GTX 1050Ti, so no HDMI 1.2 experience yet, may update review after the new compy.
Caveat emptor, I didn't find the VESA mounting to be... complete. I may have been missing parts since it was used (?), but I bought a bog-standard mid-small TV kinda mount for my wall (2-rail, little tilt, etc), and had to rig up some DIY wood jank to get it mounted. I mean, I'm sure the base would have been fine, but for a 32" 4K, I wanted a wall mount option, so I had to kinda Jeremy Fielding my way to that. The mounting job is 6/10, mildly ugly, but it hasn't fallen off the wall yet, so we're good?
Update Dec '22, now rocking a 6800XT on a 5800X3D, and I couldn't be happier even if I'd spent another $1,000 more. Very nice indeed, recommended! Windows color space handling and HDR are still... very Windows, but it's all good.
I use it mostly for CAD/CAM work but I do play games and it works great for both. It is super sharp and I was able to adjust it to my liking pretty easily (the colors were oversaturated at first).
What really impressed me though was the quality of construction and the packaging. I had ordered several other monitors that were DOA right out of the box. When this one arrived I was surprised by how large the box was. It was easily 3x thicker than the competitors. Much better packaged! The way the unit fit together and the parts were much nicer as well. All the cords and cables were included.
All said, a nice monitor and we'll worth the extra money it cost.
Top reviews from other countries
The features on this XG320Q is perfect blend for both work (3D/CAD) and some gaming in between. The RGB on the back and bezel base is a tad gimmicky but provides good ambient lighting in darker rooms. There's one reviewer's comment here about the HDR not being acknowledged by Windows, but it is selectable in Windows 11 for my installation. I tried HDR and for me I find it too bright and text/mouse cursor has a strange look to it. Until I figure out the settings to tweak I'll leve HDR off and only engage inside games. I am using an RTX3070Ti gpu and it handles this display like a champ. G-Sync is detected automagically and I have no idea what benefit it truly provides yet as my previous monitors never used before.
I like the fact that the power supply is internal to the monitor and there's no extra power brick needed. This does make the display on the heavier side and finding an articulating monitor stand/arm that can support this has been a goal of mine now. I am using one I just bought (VIVO V202Q) and it barely holds it without tilting down. I haven't bothered trying the included OEM stand with it and, while I'm sure it supports fine, it does look like it would take up a bit of valuable desktop space thus the arms.
I also plan to colour-calibrate the display (Datacolor SpyderX) eventually, but for now I'm okay with the sRGB setting. I'm also using the included DP cable with no issue so far in the 4 days I've had it set up.
There are two things I wish Viewsonic did differently with their Elite series: 1) Remove "Gaming" from the model description (I am buying this for 80% work-related activities and have to justify this purchase to my accountant ;-), and 2) Put the Viewsonic 3-bird logo back into the display bezel like some of their other displays which I always liked.
I can't find any real 'cons' with this monitor other than perhaps lack of USB 3.0 upstream which would have been a better add instead of the built-in speakers which I'll never use. USB 2.0 limits certain peripherals that can be connected to reduce cable clutter, etc. I knew what I was getting when clicking the
Add to Cart button so not a big deal.
The original packing box the monitor comes in had seen better days. I had it shipped using an Amazon box to hide the contents (porch pirates is a thing) but when opened the Viewsonic box had some punctures and tears and scuffs. Once everything was pulled out I was relieved it was all intact.
If you can find this display on sale it's definitely worth a look.
Other nice things: headphone holder, rgb can be disabled, easy driver download for display calibration.
Minor con: built-in USB hub has only two ports and the hub cable is a bit short.
Neutral: it has built in speakers which... Are functional but won't impress you with audio quality. My $30 Logitech 2.1 speakers are better but it's still nice to have.
Out of the box the colour was horrible. I found it too dark and contrasty with overblown red. There was severe colour banding – colours separated with little to no smooth blending. It took the better part of a week to get the colour correct. The on screen display – OSD – is clunky to use with so many options and, for me, obscure menu items. Under “Game Modes” there is a “Standard” setting and, under “ViewMode” there is another “Standard” setting.
If you choose anything other than “Standard”, “Custom 1”, or “Custom 2” under the “Game Modes” menu then you lose the entire “ViewMode” menu. If you use anything but “Standard” under the “ViewMode” you can’t choose gamma correction.
These restrictions mean that, while one or more preset settings may be very close to what you want, you can’t tweak that setting. For instance: I liked the “Movie” mode under “ViewMode” but wanted the gamma set a bit lighter. Since gamma can’t be accessed in “Movie” mode this forced me to start from scratch using the “Standard” settings under both “Game Modes” and “ViewMode” then trying the three colour settings - red, green, blue - as well as brightness, contrast, and gamma settings.
Also, if you use HDR through Windows you lose “Games Modes” and “ViewModes” and almost all adjustments under “Display” including the ability to change the three colour settings - red, green, blue - as well as brightness, contrast, and gamma. I ultimately found I had to use the NVIDIA Control Panel to tone down the red. This will only work with NVIDIA graphics cards.
Another complaint I have about the monitor is that stupid joystick. When you choose a setting you’re supposed to push the joystick up – akin to clicking the mouse button. However, I find that “click” very sensitive and suddenly I’m at a setting I was trying to bypass. This is, for me, especially prevalent when choosing between “Standard”, “Custom 1”, and “Custom 2” under the “Game Modes” menu. And each time you hit the “click” the screen blacks out for a second to initialize the new setting and I have to then continue with moving up or down to the setting I want. A small bother it would seem except I’ve done this several times in a row now while attempting to write this review and trying to be as precise as possible about the settings and where they are.
Having said all the negative things about this monitor and the amount of time it took to get to where it is now I am finally very satisfied with the result. I would highly recommend this monitor as long as you’re willing to put the time into it. Who knows – you might even find one of the presets entirely to your liking and everything is easy.
Bob
However, as a work monitor. IT is glorious.
With the PS 5. It is glorious (though if you work in a very bright room, I would wait till end of 2022 to see what options there are with upcoming mini LED monitors).
I was hesitant to switch away from Ben Q and Asus (I am not a huge fan of Samsung monitors), but this is really good.
The menu system is very good. But the software tool does not work (even with the audio source turned to the monitor, at least it doesn't work with windows 11).
IF you have two HDMI 2.1 inputs (which you might in the next 4-8 years), remember, you will have to switch cables every time since it only has one HDMI 2.1.
I haven't had flickering issues that some have. But do look out for that.
Anyways. Good monitor.
