The smallest towns sometimes hold the deadliest secrets.
But the smallest clues can sometimes blow a case wide open.

“Hunter's smart and scrappy Leah Nash returns with a twisty mystery that will leave readers breathless and ready for more. Don’t miss this one!” ―LynDee Walker, Amazon Charts bestselling author of Fear No Truth

A pair of fancy red stiletto heels is found in a Wisconsin cornfield.
The strangled body of a shoeless young woman in a red sequined cocktail dress is discovered the next day in a wood miles away.

That’s the start of a twisty, tangled crime that sends author and struggling newspaper owner Leah Nash in pursuit of a cold-blooded killer.

As a dancer at the local strip club the dead girl had ties to several prominent men who are anxious to remain secret. A naïve club bouncer was in love with her. She had a fling with a small-time conman. The list of potential murder suspects is growing by the minute.

Convinced that the police are after the wrong man, Leah and her overeager new reporter, Troy, dive headlong into the investigation.

But the killer’s identity is a moving target. Witnesses lie, suspects won’t talk, suspicions rise, distrust is sown as the murderer manipulates events behind the scenes. Everyone has secrets to conceal―some criminal, some shameful, some both.

And when a suspicious accident threatens to derail the investigation, Leah realizes that someone will do anything to keep their secrets safe.

DANGEROUS PURSUITS is the seventh standalone book in the Leah Nash series. If you enjoy murder mysteries with witty dialogue, clever characters, and unexpected twists, you’ll LOVE Leah Nash.

About the Author

Susan Hunter is a charter member of Introverts International (which meets the 12th of Never at an undisclosed location). She has worked as a reporter and managing editor, during which time she received a first place UPI award for investigative reporting and a Michigan Press Association first place award for enterprise/feature reporting.
Susan has also taught composition at the college level, written advertising copy, newsletters, press releases, speeches, web copy, academic papers and memos. Lots and lots of memos. She lives in rural Michigan with her husband Gary, who is a man of action, not words.
During certain times of the day, she can also be found wandering the mean streets of small-town Himmel, Wisconsin, looking for clues, stopping for a meal at the Elite Cafe, dropping off a story lead at the Himmel Times Weekly, or meeting friends for a drink at McClain's Bar and Grill.

Susan Hunter is a happy introvert who lives with her husband Gary, an extreme extrovert, in rural Michigan.

She spent some years as a reporter and then as the managing editor of a small daily newspaper. From there Susan went on to work at a university in publications and marketing where she honed her skills at appearing engaged in academic meetings, while internally composing her grocery list. She also taught a few classes as well—in English composition, that is, not in faking your way through meetings.

In addition to writing the Leah Nash series, Susan enjoys reading other people’s writing, watching classic films, occasional walks and snarky conversation with old friends and family, eating chocolate chip cookies, and answering emails from her readers.

This author always offers a well thought out plot, well-developed characters, and excellent proofreading without the typos that spoil so many books, and Dangerous Pursuits does not disappoint. Number seven in a series, the story is fast paced and full of twists and danger. Leah ferrets out the truth in the end, but the surprises don't end even when the murderer is caught.

I read an ARC, but I had preordered the book prior to receiving the advance copy, so I also purchased it. Though each story is self contained and entirely understandable without reading any of the prior books, I highly recommend reading this series from the beginning , to watch as Leah's character develops and to understand some of the characters and why they do what they do. You will want to read them all once you get to know the characters anyway. Leah Nash has her flaws, which she would be the first to tell you. She can be rash and jump to conclusions, and woe to anyone who treats her or her friends badly (like Spencer Karr), but a more loyal friend you couldn't ask for. In this book her soft heart comes out and there are developments in her personal life that I can't wait to see how they turn out in the next book. Unlike so many books. it's not just one character that is well-developed; a cast of other characters are also well-developed. Carol, Miguel, and Coop are so well described you want to know more about them as well, and yes, even the less likable ones like Courtnee and Sheri are described so well you feel like you know them as well.

I recommend this book and the entire series and await the next installment.

... On a merry chase but for some reason I was focused on the killer all along. Coop is running for sheriff and his dad is his campaign manager. Leah connects with an old friend who gives her a fuzzy clue. Because the author cleverly gave us the crime in the prologue of her stories, we know a little more than Leah does but not enough to solve the crime. I really like the twist about Gabe and the surprise ending.

Trouble seems to seek out Leah Nash, who is feisty and fearless and never backs down. She’s a small town girl with a big heart who’s ferociously defends anything that threatens her community – like a killer. How she does that is always a great read. I like the way Leah pursues leads – she makes me anxious about what will happen next and eager to find out. I’m always rooting for her, even though she’s far from perfect and has an edge to her that can irritate others.

I’ve read the entire Leah Nash series and I always enjoy catching up on Leah’s family, friends, neighbors and critics. I love the chemistry between the characters and it feels like a reunion when I read the latest book in the series. I miss Himmel and its inhabitants when I finish a book.

Susan Hunter never disappoints. Dangerous Pursuits is briskly paced with twists that keep you guessing throughout. The ending was a surprise. I thought I knew who the killer was, but I was wrong. Another plus for the book. I’m already looking forward to the next mystery in the series. There were hints of what might come next at the end of Dangerous Pursuits, and that has already reeled me in for the next book release.

This has been my favorite whodunit in the series thus far. Too many victims and suspects to shake a stick at! Twists and turns to the end. Kudos, I figured this one out before all was revealed. Ready for the next one.

Leah Nash just can’t stay away from trouble. She is involved with trying to help get Coop’s father out of trouble to help Coop win the sheriff election. While she is hot on the trail to discover who killed the girl, she discovers more than she bargained for. The ending is very suspenseful and full of twists and turns.

Dangerous Pursuits is book #7 in the Leah Nash mystery series. I have really enjoyed this series and this book did not disappoint! Leah Nash is at it again solving crimes as a crime reporter! She tends to get herself into sticky situations and almost gets herself killed to get to the bottom of any story that she is investigating! I love all of the characters in this series and the storylines! I would highly recommend this series to anyone that likes a good mystery with a great lead character!

Susan Hunter's Leah Nash series is without doubt one of the best mystery series out there right now. I buy each new installment as soon as it is released and I sit on the edge of my seat reading it straight through to the end. This latest one (Dangerous Pursuits) does not disappoint. Fantastic plot with plenty of twists and turns and false starts and dead ends and red herrings and simply the best "I-TOTALLY-DID-NOT-SEE-THAT-COMING!" ending of any book in the series so far. The author continues to improve and I continue to await each new release to what Leah and Coop and the gang are up to. If I may add one point of honest criticism, it's this: I'm no Puritan, but I found the level of alcohol consumption in this volume quite distracting, not for any moral reasons, but just because there was so much of it and so much of that was not particularly germane to the plot that I found it to be a real distraction. I won't deduct a star from my rating because the mystery absolutely deserves five stars, but it felt like every few pages the author had to pause from telling this incredible story to describe what a character was drinking at the moment. I understand that little details like this help to fill out the picture the author is trying to paint, but this time it was too much and broke the flow of the story repeatedly. I could do with less of that in the next installment. Other than that, great book and I look forward to the next one. Thanks.

Back in Himmel, Wisconsin and Leah is still juggling keeping her newspaper afloat and getting her writing career back on track. The murder of a dancer at the local strip club threatens to derail her best friends’ election campaign for Sheriff, and give her online newspaper rivals a juicy exclusive. Beginning the search for the killer leads Leah once more into mortal danger, whilst an unexpected surprise threatens to completely disrupt her personal life. Some readers, like me, may work out the identity of the killer quickly, but the path to the reveal is entertaining, the main characters remain both believable and likeable, and there’s also some interesting local history and food thrown in. I would recommend reading this series in order.
