Poor design of air intake makes it only suitable for use in the middle of a room.
3 out of 5 stars
Poor design of air intake makes it only suitable for use in the middle of a room.
I bought this for use in my bedroom, although it's a little overkill for the space, I was fine with that as long as it preformed well. One thing I failed to notice, and I wish I had, was that the main air intake is on the back of the unit and the front of it is just a blank piece of plastic. The major problem with this is that if you place it against a wall (like a normal human would) on a desk or a shelf in my case, or something like that, instead of the middle of the room, then the main air intake will be blocked! There are smaller intakes on the side, but it would have to run twice as long just to do the same job as it would if the main intake was not against the wall blocking the airflow. Maybe if you live a life where you pile things in a heap in the middle of the floor of rooms with cords and hoses running everwhere, then go ahead and throw this on top of the pile and it will actually work as intended, or if you want to sit it on a pedestal in the middle of the room and use it as a conversation piece, then by all means proceed, but if you are like most humans, you will place it against the wall in some fashion, be it floor, shelf, desk, end table etc., especially if you are using the drain hose and not the bucket. The manual states that it needs 8" of clearance just to get the air into it, again it doesn't pull air in from the front for some dumb reason, and the unit is 15" long meaning that it needs to take up 2' of space from the wall, and its still pulling air in from behind it, not the actual space you want to dehumidifiy. That's right, for it to work correctly you have to face it AWAY from the room you want to dehumidifiy, effectively the rear (with cords, hoses and all the rest) is actually the front, and boy is it ugly. This thing is assbackwards, literally.Does it work? Sure. Does it have to make noise longer reducing its lifespan, use more electricity and work harder while sticking out 25 inches into my room and facing backwards to work as intended? It sure does. I guess some people will say, "Just turn it around and face the rear forward", but this thing is supposedly for residential use, aka your home. It's already bad enough that it looks like a mop bucket, which by the way the handle only folds to the front, in case you ever momentarily forgot how much it looks like a mop bucket, the handle will be dangling there to remind you. They at one point had older models in black, which looked way better and you did not have to clean every day just to keep White, why they dont offer this one in black is beyound me. Now, I have to show the cords hoses and all the other stuff too just for it to work as effectively as it should? This kids, is what is referred to as design flaw. Somewhere along the way, be it a corporate board room or a bunch of dudes with too many degrees, they forgot to ask a normal human in a normal house what they thought, and that's how we got here. The reviews all say it works great, I'm sure it does, but I'll never know because I'm not putting it in the middle of any room in my house, pointing it backwards and then running cords and hoses all across the floor to it so that it preforms at its best, it's just not going to happen. It will go up against my wall, on a shelf, with the cords and hoses hidden behind it where they can't be seen, and that is the level it will prefrom at for me and most other human beings in a human house, that level is the real level of its performance as far as I, and im sure most people, are concerned. This was not at all designed with that understanding, which is strange because it has the word residential right on it.Anyway, I'm just writing the review I wish I had read before I bought it based on the good reviews about how well it worked, which left out how it had to be positioned to achieve those results, aka in a manner that no sane person would in their house. I will leave a picture of the actual front of this unit, the side that should face the area you want to dehumidifiy, the real front face, if you want it to work as well as all the reviews say and not have to have it sticking two feet out from the wall into your room.In case someone from Midea reads this, the air intake (and only the air intake, no ports, cords, hoses, ugly branding etc.) should be on the front of the unit, so that it faces into the room we want to dehumidifiy, not away from it. It should not have to be placed away from the wall to function nor should it pull air in from behind it, but should instead pull air in from in front of it, which will almost always be the area we are trying to dehumidifiy, not the space behind it. Additionally, it should be offered in black and maybe have the handle fold to the rear where it can be hidden instead of flopping halfway down the front making it look more like a mop bucket than it already does. You have made a residential product, so please always consider how this will appear in someone's home where they have to see it everyday and make adjustments with that in mind as to how it will function as opposed to using it in some other setting. Please understand that "residential" means our home and that it should be designed to look AND function in that setting, not an office or Industrialized setting. Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go figure out how I'm going to build an enclosure around this thing that will allow me to place it on a shelf against the wall, which will then force me to have the ugly rear with the ports, cords, hoses and all the rest facing out into my room. Maybe the enclosure I now have to design and build will hide it all to make it bearable enough to look at everday with the rear facing out, but this is not a problem that I wanted to have after buying such a pricey product, yet here I am with it, and with the accompanying headache.

We are four days of use and more and more impressed. The unit is the most compact model we have used for the capacity, and therefore space, that it can dehumidify. It is relatively quiet and dependable, having run essentially non-stop so far. We have tried emptying the unit as it fills and also using the hose into a pump to run truly non-stop. Either well works well and would be a good choice depending on your situation. It provided very clean water for our plants when we emptied the unit and the pump option keeps it running all the time and eliminates the "chore" of manually emptying the unit. Our last three unit from various manufacturers lasted less than 2 years so we chose this one based on reliability but still purchased an optional 4 year warranty and will be very surprised if we do not use it. BTW, I set this up and started it with only the quick set-up guide; in other words, very easy to get started but that may come from years of using different units.

Well designed, flexible unit that removes more H2O than I could gave imagined. Relatively quiet. Can be used in tank, pump or passive drain mode. Very compact if used in passive drain mode. Huge capacity of tank but heavy when full. Good wide handle makes it easy to pick up. The App works very well and keeps me informed about its status ( tank, filters etc). Superb dehumidifier!

This is a decent dehumidifier. It seems to work effectively, it looks pretty good and the bucket capacity is more than my last dehumidifier. It would be great if it simply executed on a few basic functions. Which it does not.

-When it is on the bucket, it can drain into the bucket or in "continuous mode" via a drain hose. While hooked up the bucket I can set a target humidity percentage--say 55%--but when the bucket fills up, due to some flaw it continues to run and the bucket overflows. Disappointing. There must be an inadequate or malfunctioning fill sensor. Anyway, water runs out onto the floor.

-No problem. I'll hook up the hose. But the hose can only be used when set on the bucket when operating in "continuous mode". This works fine, but I don't want it to run *continuously*. I want it to dehumidify when the humidity is high and stop when the humidity is low. This is not possible with the drain hose while attached to the bucket.

-No problem. I'll simply operate in Bucketless Mode. In this mode you can use the hose AND set a humidity target. But it turns out that the drain hose only gets about 95% of the collected water. Around 5% of the water still drains down, as if it were going into the bucket. Which sucks, because in bucketless mode, down is the floor again. And if you put it back onto the bucket, it stops using the drain hose. And then it overflows. Onto the floor.

This product is either a little over-engineered or a little under-engineered depending upon your perspective. I'd definitively rather pay another 25% in price to get one that worked either a) in bucket mode without leaking b) in drain hose mode without operating continuously or c) in bucketless mode without leaking. Any of those options would work for me and none are available.

I chatted with tech support a bit and they weren't really able to offer much help. I have it running in bucketless mode over a Home Depot bucket to catch the drips, which will work fine I expect until I bump it and the whole thing falls over and breaks.

First, I'm not sure what misleading marketing goes into "4,500 sqft", but if you think this can dehumidify you're entire house, it won't. It can struggle to keep up on my 600sqft basement (which gets pretty humid and to be fair I use this one as opposed to two of a different model with better results).

Energy Usage: Range: 525w high with about a 40w low when it's just the fan. The fan is only 10-15w difference between high and low so always run on high. The condenser is usually running about 480w but there are fluctuations from 525 down to 470w. Currently it's running in my crawl space (I'll save you the story but in my case it's less dumb to do than it sounds), which is always humid and running almost non-stop. The daily energy usage is running between 11-12kwh. That's about 345kwh a month or at 15 cents a kwh about $52 a month. It is more energy efficient than the two smaller brands I used and more effective with a larger range.

Noise: It's got some noise to it. Not something you'd want running the office or the same room as you for long. It's about 66 decibels.

A review I found claimed the CFM was 430, so good air movement when compared to competitors and I can vouch that this has a lot of intake areas and a large output area at the top.

Note: Your humidity level will determine how frequently it runs. You can manually have it run all the time or cycle on and off when it reaches a certain humidity point. The lower you want to maintain the space, the harder the machine will work.

All the reviews I found on this said it was energy efficient with most not identifying what the energy usage was. High end of the range is 525w number and with other similar models about 600w. I found that it generally ran about 480w with the condenser and the fan only was about 45w.

The top section and bottom section are not connected. This is annoying when trying to lift and move the unit. You need to move each section individually or be in a space where you're only rolling it. The wheels work fine on concrete.

The pump has worked fine for me. I've had issues with other models that the pumps don't really work and I have to manually empty. The pumps simply slow the filling. I haven't noticed that issue yet with the Midea, but I did find more water than I expected when I transitioned it into the crawlspace.

The app has worked fairly well. They moved to a newer app and it's worse than the previous one, but I like to be able to check on the humidity and operate remotely. I also have a temperature/humidity sensor in the crawlspace to double check the unit as well as to tell me the humidity further away from the unit. The Midea Cube 50 pint with pump (that's a mouthful) is doing fairly well.

Do I recommend? I'm going with yes. My one star removal is due to the 4500 sqft number that is not remotely accurate as a lay person would understand it. I think it might have some meaning in the dehumidifier world, but if I'm looking to size a tool for my space, I need numbers I can rely on and that number isn't it. Also I knock off for it being in two pieces that don't lock together because going up and down stairs is annoying (did some caulking work in the bathrooms and needed to dry it out). The real world square footage is more 600sqft for a humid basement in Buffalo, NY in the summer.. And that is probably the upper limit. During the summer my humidity was about 45 and I had to set it to 35 to get it there. (keep in mind that outside was 90% humidity, so it is better than it might sound). This is not industrial strength, but it's the step right before. It's not cheap to run if you have a lot of humidity, but it's cheaper than other units it's sized (per reviews I read).

    I hope all this helps.

¡Te vas a sorprender!

¡Te vas a sorprender!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great dehumidifier!

Large capacity, easily emptied and does it pull water out of the air!! We had a different MIDEO dehumidifier that failed just under a year after we bought it. It worked fabulously but sadly it stopped working. Through the AMAZON link to the supplier we reached out and received a full refund ... so it only made sense to buy another from MIDEA. Our daughter had previously bought this model and continues to really like it so we chose it. It is a little noisier than the previous model but it works great!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great and reasonably quiet.

Replacing my Bionaire PureQuiet unit which was sadly discontinued. The Midea does a good job but a little cumbersome removing the top section to empty the large bucket but the large bucket also means less times having to empty it. The noise level was important to me and is actually very acceptable. All in all it's a great unit and well worth the price.

An update. I'm well into my first summer with this unit and it's actually much better than I had expected. I've had many dehumidifiers over the years but none would compare to this one. I'd give it an A+ if I could!
