We literally plugged them in straight out of the box 2 minutes before hitting record for an episode. There is not setup. Just plug and go. They are coupled to a Zoom H5 recorder. I don't plan on ever needing to upgrade.
The other reason I went with a dynamic mic is to cut out background noise. We have forced air heating that is very loud. When we record the air vent noise never shows up in the recording so there is no post editing needed.
These are perfect for podcasting, singing, and doing interviews. Great product for the price!
The are only two minor cons:
1. Internal USB preamp is slightly noisier than what you can get from standalone audio interfaces like focusright, native instruments or behringer or more expensive options. It is fixable with noise reduction plugins for recording. When talking in meetings it is impossible to notice when you talk, and many meetings software has built-in noise reduction...
2. Mic is pretty good at capturing sound in front of it, and not catching on sides and back side, however, it easily catches vibrations or bumps, probably because of full metal construction and some internals... so if you have a table stand or table mic arm stand and if you hit the table or touch the arm or pressing keyboard buttons too loud - the mic will catch it. To eliminate it you can use floor stand or be more careful with movements.
I bought a good pair of Senheiser headphones, a microphone boom arm, and this microphone.
I considered multiple options from Audio Technia, Shure, Senheiser, and others.
I specifically wanted USB function, ideally USB C. A dynamic microphone, so I didn't pick up extra noise. And I wanted built in shock absorption and pop filter functions. It also needed to look clean since I'm typically on video.
This hit every mark, at a reasonable price.
After using it multiple times, I've had every person comment on how good my audio sounds. It's very clean. Not over the top, just very professional, clear, quality sound.
Keep in mind, my room is hardwood floor, with mostly bare walls. I have curtains against the windows, but otherwise have no acoustic treatments. So I'm getting fantastic sound out of this mic with a very minimal investment.
Can't recommend it any more.
