I bought it because my neighbor downstairs smokes from his balcony. I set up the Awair just inside from the my balcony. The Awair lets me know when it's time to close the sliding doors to my balcony: if the particulate matter reading spikes, I immediately close it.
The periodic alerts from the app are unobtrusive, useful and they let me know the unit is working. I was fascinated to learn that my air often has high-ish carbon dioxide levels (which can make one feel sluggish and compromise decision-making), even when the balcony door is open, and that opening other windows helps decrease the CO2 levels. I feel better knowing that I'm doing what's reasonably possible to decrease CO2, VOC, and particulate matter levels (airing out the apartment beyond just having the sliding door open with the screen door on, getting some Coway and Winix air filters, etc.
It's great. I'm glad I got it, and as my title says, I just bought a second one. I'm considering a third.
I like the dashboard display, though you will have to memorize its meaning -- or use the nicely designed app to get the details.
It's also been useful to get our humidity in balance, though there are less costly solutions for that.
I may have more to say after longer term use.
Recently they decided to “sunset” the gen 1 device and the glow c. It will still “read” the air but removes the data from the app which essentially renders it useless. Sure, the led indicator works but what’s the point when I have no idea what is high or low? I bought these for my kids’ rooms to monitor their air and temp. I can’t do that with an led light in another room. I spent almost $400 on the devices that mind you, work just fine and have been working fine but because the company decided they want to force me to upgrade the devices are as good as bricks. Will not be buying more devices from a company that is deceptive and treats its customers this way. Was an early adopter and supporter of this company but definitely not a fan now and incredibly disappointed. If you’re considering buying an element… beware.
follow-up after a week: The other caution from reviews I read was that the minimalist design was too cryptic and not clearly informative. I find the unit to be very nicely designed and the display is a super clever way to present all the useful data without looking like a loud eyesore in your room. 5 lines of dots show you 5 key metrics and if that's too complicated the single number on the display is your overall air quality score from 1 to 100. OR you can customize the display to more literally show you any 1 of the 5 metrics. The display on this is a design achievement.
