Is this Rode VideoMicro worth the money?
I love how compact it is. The fact that it needs no battery is amazing. The sound quality is good. I think it’s definitely worth the price. At $60 price point it’s a great buy to enhance your video quality. Now some things i don’t like. The connection cord is only compatible with cameras (dslr or Point and shoot) i was hoping i could get a connection cord that worked on my cellphone. But i didn’t. And i have to pay $15 for it. That ain’t happening.Probably the most critical complaint is the audio quality. I will say it improved my overall audio quite a bit but it didn’t do everything i thought it would. When using the on board mic on my devices it got pretty good audio (if i yelled) but there was this annoying hissing sound (white noise). I had hoped the RODE VideoMicro would eliminate this issue but it didn’t. It did reduce the sound a little but it’s still noticeable to me, especially when outside. This mic performs its best when doing a vlog style recording. When holding the mic at about arms length u get a great deep audio with a richness that the on board can’t provide. When doing an interview style video it performs well. This is best at about 2 to 3ft away from the mic. Anything further away it’s just an ok quality. Is it worth it? Yes! If you are like me looking to make content for YouTube or whatever and you want a better audio quality get this mic. I plan to upgrade when my budget increases but for now this RODE VideoMicro will do just fine.

The new ones sound artificially boomy. These still can't be beaten for performance, portability, durability, sound quality, and price. After you master your audio and YouTube gets hold of it, these are practically as good as anything else available.

I recently purchased the Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone, and it has truly transformed my video recording experience. This little marvel deserves every bit of its 5-star rating.

First off, let's talk about its appearance. The VideoMicro looks sleek and professional when mounted on my camera, adding a touch of elegance to my setup. It's compact and doesn't obstruct the camera's view, which is a huge plus.

The real magic happens when you hit the record button. The sound quality is simply outstanding. I can now capture crystal-clear audio without any unwanted background noise. Whether I'm shooting indoors or outdoors, the Rode VideoMicro consistently delivers excellent sound quality.

One of my favorite features is its ease of use. You simply plug it into your camera's microphone input, and you're good to go. No complicated setup or additional batteries required. It's a true plug-and-play device.

Furthermore, its affordability is unbeatable for the quality it offers. Rode has managed to strike the perfect balance between price and performance with the VideoMicro.

In conclusion, the Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone is a must-have for anyone serious about improving their video production quality. It's not just a microphone; it's a game-changer. I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and I highly recommend it to fellow videographers and content creators. This microphone is a solid 5-star performer all the way!

I'm quite pleased with the quality of the sound it produces. The audio is clear and crisp, capturing details effectively. However, one drawback is that the microphone's volume is a bit low.

To get the best results, you need to be relatively close to the microphone during interviews or recordings. While the sound quality is excellent, this proximity requirement might be a consideration depending on your specific needs.

If you're okay with staying close to the microphone, it's a solid choice due to its impressive sound quality. Just be aware that the lower volume might affect its usability for certain situations where you need more flexibility in your positioning. Overall, it's a good microphone with a minor limitation.

Rode Camera Microphone, works really well, knock down a lot of background noise and picks up on my voice. can still hear noise if wind is high - but that's same with any mic

This mic blocks sound from the back REALLY WELL. For example, it's great if you are trying to record music being played live on a stage, and you don't want all the crowd noise behind you to be recorded.

On the other hand, if you are using it to vlog, you have to talk louder than normal if you're behind the mic, otherwise your voice will come in soft.

In comparison, the much more expensive Rode Video Mic Pro and Pro+ mics are good at picking up sound from the front and the rear, while rejecting sound only from the side. But they pick up sound well from the rear which make them great for vlogging, if you don't mind the larger size and having to use a battery.

In any case, this Rode VideoMicro mic is literally one of the best condenser mics you can buy at any price when it comes to blocking sound from the rear. I've used dozens of condenser mics all the way up to $1,000 mics and very few are as good at blocking sound from the rear. (Dynamic mics are better at blocking sound from the rear, but they are a completely different kind of mic.)

As far as condenser mics go that can be used for vlogging, the only vlogging mic as good as this one at blocking sound from the rear is the much more expensive Sennheiser MKE 440.

Long story short, this Rode VideoMicro is a bargain. Small, cheap, sounds pretty good, comes with a shock mount and a windscreen, and no battery needed. It's a really good deal!

I have a Movo mic but it kept producing clicking sounds. Tried a few other mics that clip to your shirt and they worked well but really wanted something I didn’t have to wear. Used this mic on several videos now and am extremely happy with it.

    Sound Quality That Exceeds Expectations:
One of the most remarkable features of the RØDE VideoMicro is its exceptional sound quality. It captures audio with an impressive level of clarity and richness, providing a significant improvement over the built-in microphone of the GoPro 10. Whether recording in loud or quiet environments, this microphone brings out the finest details in audio, making every video cinematic and professional.

    Directional Design Perfect for Filmmaking:
The VideoMicro's directional pickup pattern is another standout feature. The microphone captures sound primarily from the front while minimizing background noise, ensuring that the main subject's audio is the focus. This proves to be incredibly useful when shooting in noisy environments, allowing for clear dialogue and immersive storytelling without any unwanted distractions.

    Compact and Convenient:
Designed to be mounted on a camera or camcorder, the VideoMicro's size is compact and lightweight. This makes it an ideal companion for my GoPro 10, as it doesn't add any significant bulk or weight to my setup. Durable Construction:
Built to withstand the challenges of on-the-go filmmaking, the RØDE VideoMicro boasts a sturdy and durable construction. The microphone is encased in a rugged metal body, offering longevity and protection against accidental bumps or drops. I feel confident that this microphone will withstand the rigors of my filmmaking adventures, ensuring it will continue to deliver stellar audio quality for years to come.

    Easy Setup and Versatile Compatibility:
Setting up the VideoMicro is as simple as plugging it into the GoPro 10's external microphone port. Its universal 3.5mm TRS connector makes it compatible with a wide range of devices, including various cameras, smartphones, and even laptops. This versatility allows me to seamlessly switch between different filmmaking equipment without any hassle, ensuring I never miss an opportunity to capture incredible audio.

    Conclusion:
The RØDE VideoMicro Compact On-camera Directional Microphone has indeed enhanced my GoPro 10 filmmaking experience. Its outstanding sound quality, compact design, easy setup, and durable construction make it a fantastic investment for any filmmaker seeking professional audio results. Whether you're recording dialogue, interviews, or ambient sounds, this microphone delivers exceptional performance.
