Product Description

The Atlas Athlete Pack is the most versatile camera bag on the market. Designed for to securely store medium sets of camera gear plus everything else you need for the trip. The Athlete can shift between “day pack” size of about 20liters to “adventure size” of about 40liter. This means it's great for getting you to a location and also working out of when you are there. The depth of the pack is just 7". Gripped bodies must be laid down. Mirrorless, 4/3, 5D sized bodies can be dropped in and the lens can be mounted. Mavic size drones fit really well. Video bodies like an FS5 or C200 will fit broken down. Please note that all packs are fitted. Be sure to order the right size. If you have a question ask. MEDIUM BACK: 5'0 - 5'9 LARGE BACK: 5'10 - 6'6 **OF NOTE: The waistbelts run slim. ABOUT THIS PACK: The Athlete pack will securely store and organize your gear. This packs' folding Origami Camera Core (patent pending) lets you shift the space in your pack without having to buy additional ICU's (internal camera units). If you need to carry your hiking, camping, outdoor, climbing, overnight gear plus your camera this is the pack for you!

I've own both bags. Both have their usage. I use the adventure when I go camping or need to hall a lot of stuff. I use the athlete bag as my everyday bag including bringing it to work. I've travelled with the athlete bag on planes with no issues. Carrying 25 lbs of gear on my back and hiking 10 miles is not a issue with these bags. The waist belts do an amazing job keeping the load off of your back. However my favorite thing about this product is the owner of Atlas Packs. He replaced a belt buckle free of charge when one broke (my fault). My parents owned a small business for 40 years and I feel I get the same level of customer support that my parents used to give. I can't recommend this product enough.Louis

I was looking for a Camera Backpack where I could take the stuff I needed for a day hike along with my camera gear. I was looking at other competitors backpacks, but was not thrilled with the removable "ICU" systems and was wanting a fixed compartment with dividers I could customize. I found Atlas Packs on-line and watched some YouTube reviews, this was exactly the pack I was looking for. The build quality of this pack is exceptional and great thought was put into the design. I particularly like the water bladder pocket for my camelback and the Origami divider is great when you need to take additional hiking or Camera gear. I used this pack on a trip this past weekend and it was extremely comfortable, plus held all of my gear. Dealing with Atlas was also incredible, you can tell that they take customer service seriously. If you are looking for a new backpack I easily recommend Atlas Packs.

This bag is absolutely perfect. Thanks to Alan and the amazing team for such perfection. I’ve looked for the perfect bag for years and this is it. Fits all my camera gear from wide angle to super teles to numerous extra camera gear. On top of that there’s plenty of space for extra layers (I’m talking rain pants rain jackets, extra insulation etc. that’s not even all, I’ve yet to pack this bag to maximum capacity. You won’t go wrong with this purchase.

This backpack is just amazing. The materials are super-premium, the design is great and it fits all my camera gear perfectly. The dividers are amazing, they adjust super quickly and make my gear feel super protected. I use this backpack mostly for 2-3 day camping trips in the mountains of Costa Rica with high humidity and it is just perfect. It is possible to fit enough food, camping gear, camera gear, and clothes for 2-3 days trips.

Let me preface this with a quick qualifier: I'm a bag nut from the way back and have tried so many different bags for my camera gear: both dedicated and making due with some other packs I love, like Osprey bags, and I write this review from that experience.

I discovered this bag at a photography conference and decided to give it a try after a quick demo of its many versatile use cases from its creator. I've owned it about 3 months now and it is my go-to for a number of uses: be it a day hike to shoot some landscapes, traveling and street photography.

What I love about it is its versatility. It carries a decent amount of gear (a body or two and 2-3 lenses depending on which I bring and how many bodies I need) but leaves room for a laptop, support gear, some clothes and a water bladder or bottle. When traveling, I can ditch anything I don't need and the pack's footprint becomes much smaller, almost like a day pack. This is perfect for running around the city without a giant brick on my back.

I've found that materials, too, are world class. While this pack is not as overall comfortable as my Ospry and its suspended mesh frame (which is amazing), every zipper, seem, pocket and strap is the same high quality and the many pockets are very intuitive. The trade off from the suspended mesh frame, which excellent, is that my gear stays out of the way, safe and dry. And this isn't to say that the pack is UNcomfortable, I'm just trying to compare it to other packs I have.

For a photo pack, it's far and away the best I own. I still have my suitcases and smaller day packs for when the project or trip demands it, but my main go to is the Atlas since getting it.

The only other "less than" I'd say is the hydration system. But like the trade off for the superior Ospry, the hydration needed to be moved in order for the gear component to go into the back-facing rear of the pack. (The laptop is on the inside of the pack.) This is normally an area where the bladder goes, and in the case of the Atlas its moved to a side pocket.
This move works fine BUT - it requires a very specific size and type of bladder to work. I tried a number of them until the Atlas peeps recommended this bladder and it works like a champ:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G4818E8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So - in essence: a great camera backpack choice if you're looking to travel or hike with some gear, even enough for an overnight or two depending on how much camping gear you usually take - that packs down small when not as full and doesn't draw attention to itself but is made very well and thoughtfully designed.

Put off buying a dedicated pack too long! I had been using an Osprey with a light frame and Tenba storage units, and also had one of the smaller Think Tank rotation packs before I got a full frame camera. Shimoda seems to be getting so much love and lots of promotion/advertising lately that I held off on making a decision. My biggest concern with the Atlas was whether it would be deep enough for my Sony mirrorless gear with long lenses. I think the Atlas has gotten the balance just about right. Camera storage is properly snug for a mirroless system and it holds all the gear I need to carry for landscape photography outings. The pack also works great for carrying gear on airplanes. Other packs like Shimoda seem to have deeper storage units, but this space tends to go to waste for mirrorless gear and makes for a bulkier pack. The Shimoda appears to have shoulder straps that are probably the most comfortable out there based on reviews, but I have found the Atlas straps and belt to be comfortable.

Overall, very happy I went with the Atlas.
