I had a much larger unit from another manufacturer for years that took up way too much space and stayed stored in our utility room unless we had an event planned. This MRP unit appealed to me because of its size. I could put it on the kitchen counter and leave it there. To my delight, I found that it worked great and was very convenient. Because of its small size and quite operation, I leave it out all the time and it supplies me with my daily ice needs (I prefer its ice to that made in the refrigerator because it is softer).
I started to remove a star because the timer is very difficult to use. It doesn't appear to be recurring and must be set each time (I could see some value to having ice every day at a certain hour.) But I really didn't need a timer all that much anyway, so I left the rating at five stars. This unit also seems to make as much ice with only 9 freezing units as my old unit that had 12 freezing units, an early concern that proved to be unfounded.
I haven't experienced the recurring beeping that some folks complained about. When mine fills up or runs out of water, it beeps one time only.
