This cot does have a lot going for it otherwise. Once you get the hang of the simple set up, it's not difficult to put together. I like how low to the ground it is, though I would like it a bit higher so I can use it as a seat in my hot tent.
The quality is excellent. Alps didn't skimp on the materials. I'm not afraid to put mine on the ground with rocks and sticks while assembling.
All that aside, I slept on this cot (on top of my usual air mattress for camping) and WOW, did I sleep great!
The slumber came quickly and I am talking deep REM sleep. I've taken this cot in the back country and had a very peaceful night's sleep. With the pad alone (which is an excellent pad), my hips hurt and I toss and turn. On the cot, my pad doesn't move around and there is no more tossing and turning. This product has added another dimension to my camping experience!
The hard part is getting the side rails in and out of the pockets. It badly needs some pull loops to get hold of. You can't get enough grip on the canvas to pull it while pushing the rails in and out.
I had initial problems assembling the side rails. Each side has 2 aluminums piece that must be slid into the next rail sections. They fit too tight and and be a real bear to get out later, sometimes taking 2 people. I ground them down a ways and it's much better. I HIGHLY recommend carrying some petroleum jelly and greasing them before you put them together.
It's quite comfortable as cots go. In cool weather, some kind of insulating pad is a must. I can say from experience that a 3/8 to 1/2" ensolite pad will make a cot comfortable well below freezing. The 30" width is a luxury compared to some cots I've slept on.
We pack with llamas and I would have liked cots a bit lighter in weight, but to get the extra width, we sacrificed weight. Our biggest concern was to find some that folded short enough to fit on a llama's back.
We bought 2 of these used from an Amazon vendor. They appeared to be returns. One had never been opened but the box was ratty. The other doesn't appear to have ever been used but it had been assembled. I sure can't complain for 1/2 the price.
edited: We've been using these for several years now and they've been on numerous llama pack trips. I see that Alps now has out an ultralight version that's 5 or 6 lb lighter and packs shorter. I might get one to see how it is. It should fit inside a pannier instead of needing to tie it on top.
This one has held up nicely. I shortened each of the 4 end side rail bars by 1/2" each to make it easier to get the side rails in and out of the pockets. That helped immensely. They still don't sag and have held up very well. I don't see any tears or bends.
Setup: A lot of reviewers complained about how hard it was to bend the legs in. I can see how, if you have low upper body strength the setup could be a challenge. I didn't think it was that bad.
Comfort: I imagined a rating system. 1-10. If 1 is sleeping flat on a gym floor in a sleeping bag, and 10 is the comfort of my own mattress at home, I would rate sleeping on a double air bed next to a person that outweighs me by 100 pounds (and all the attendant sleeping on a hill followed by hitting the ground when said person gets up to pee) as a 4. Sleeping on a thin foam backpacking pad on hard ground would be a 2, nice inflatable backpacking pad raises it to a 3. I tried this cot at home (in the house) as a test- a solid 5, but I got a chilled butt (like in a hammock). Then I put that inflatable backpacking pad ON the cot- HOLY COW. I'd give it a solid 6 (it might even rise to a 7 over long term use). It's a dream for a side sleeper and isn;t even bad when I flip over to my back. I had some lower back pain in the morning but I think that's just me and age.
Sturdiness: I think I come within about 50 pounds of the weight limit on this cot and I toss and turn. It creaked a little but never felt unsteady.
Other: After years of car camping and sleeping on an air mattress I really love the additional storage space under the cot. Stuff sacks and extra shoes fit nicely underneath the cot and make the tent neater. It also takes up less space tha a twin air mattress which is nice.

I’m 6’0” and weigh 200ish pounds, the fabric does sag slightly but I’m not really sure what else you would expect from an item made to break down in your backpack. Oh, I also herniated my disc in my lower back years back and deal with sleeping issues in general but this still left my happy with my purchase.
If can be a little tricky to get used to setting it up but a couple times and it goes together like nothing, don’t let the brainless tell you otherwise
The above is really all you need to know about the pros: it's comfortable, it's warm, it's sturdy.
CONS:
- takes a little bit of effort to set it up, so I'd advise not waiting until right before bed to set it up. I'd estimate 10 min at least, combined with some muscle to get the legs in. It was too much for my 12 year old son to set up on his own
- couldn't get the side rails all the way in because the fabric was so tight. Still functioned fine, but bothered the OCD part of me that I couldn't get it fully assembled.
- it's a challenge to get it all back in the bag because of how the legs are shaped, but that's just a minor annoyance.
- heavy. Too heavy for backpacking. But just fine for car camping.
Bottom line: Happy I purchased it, made my sleep much better, and that alone was well worth the price. And I would buy it again. You can get lighter ones, but they are 2-3 times as much. This is a great compromise in between and is sturdy enough it seems I could probably leave it in my will.
