Publisher's summary

President Cappuano has been working for months on his first State of the Union address, his highest profile moment yet as the country’s new president. He’s dealing with a wide array of complex issues and is counting down to the televised speech before a joint session of Congress. While he tries to strike the right tone to assure the American people that their new president is hard at work on their behalf, his wife, Metro Police Lt. Sam Holland is faced with one of the most confounding cases of her career and juggling some complex issues at home with the couple’s children. Add to that some vexing security concerns, and the first couple are on edge as they wonder whether they’ll pass this first big test for the fledgling Cappuano administration.

As always, when things get too hot to handle in the rest of their lives, Sam and Nick turn to each other for solace as their bond grows deeper by the day in this latest installment in the First Family Series!

Police, politics, family, romance

This is another very entertaining book as we continue on with Nick and Sam, their family, extended family, and friends. The police work, politics, and family and friends are woven into adventure, suspense and romance. I love that the characters are so well written. This is another very enjoyable book in this series!!! Eva's performance of the book is excellent, as always.

Another enjoyable book in the series

I used both Kindle and Audible to read the latest book in this enjoyable series by Marie Force. The first several books are all in the "Fatal..." series, i.e. all book titles begin with the word "Fatal." Three books ago, the titles changed to start with the words "State of..." Should you decide to follow this series, I strongly recommend enjoying the books in order, beginning with the Fatal books.

President Nick Cappuano is preparing for his first State of the Union address, and at the same time First Lady and Metro PD Homicide Lieutenant Sam(antha) Holland Cappuano and her team are trying to find a serial rapist/murderer in the DC area.
I enjoy following this series, which contains a regular cast of characters whose characters evolve in each subsequent book. The story lines are "formula" and include family ups and downs, life and death, romance and sex, a homicide or two, and a bit of DC politics. Marie Force is a fast writer and although this book was just released in September, the next book is due to be released in December. These are not the grittiest of stories and are penned for a mainstream audience. If you are a fan of Dervla McTiernan, Michael Scanlon, or Harlan Coben, I would say that this series is a lighter fare and you don't have to think as hard.
But, to be clear, I enjoy the lighter book every once in awhile! I especially like that one of my BFFs, Juliane, is a beta reader for this series and I picked it up after she recommended it.

Regarding narration, I like Eva Kaminsky, with one exception. She uses "upspeak" frequently. (The ending of a statement spoken as a question.) Other than that, her diction is clear and her character voices are consistent.

Whispersync was very unpredictable between my devices.

Great Listen

Great story as usual, but I really enjoyed how she brought all the major cast members from the old books, and fully integrated them into the new story lines. Great to have Gonzo back really missed him.

Loved it - Great story and great narration

I couldn’t wait to listen to State of the Union as Nick and Sam juggle their outrageously busy lives. This was a great book and one that I listened to in almost one go. Eve Kaminsky did a wonderful job bringing the story to life for me and her voice is easy to listen too as she narrates.

It was so great to be back in the world of Nick and Sam, their extended family and friend. It really is like coming home when I read or listen to these books. Nick and Sam are so well suited to each other and their love continues to grow whilst living complicated and at times dangerous lives.

Ms. Force delivered a story that had me on the edge of my seat whilst listening. As I have come to expect from this series, there were so many twists and turns that has me gasping at times.

Add in that Sam sustains an injury that puts her out of action which causes headaches for all those around her. You cannot help but be drawn into the story and as always I loved catching up with Sam, Nick, Scotty, the Littles and all their extended family.

I cannot wait to see what she has in store for the gang in her next book State of Shock after the jaw dropping ending to State of the Union.

Love the story

why does the narrator make many of the females sound so Haughty? Sams sister and also First Lady Nelson. I would never expect that from these characters. they all always seem so down to earth.

Wow!

What an exciting book! It had me laughing and crying. Nick and Sam are such a wonderful couple together. They know how to support each other and build each other up. I'm certainly looking forward to the next book soon. Eva Kaminsky always does a wonderful job of narrating.
