[ORIGINAL_REVIEW] - The microphone is terrible because you need to be essentially eating the microphone in order for your volume to get through. It doesn't help that the microphone is extremely flimsy so it will rotate and eventually degrade. But the headphones are extremely comfortable, they hold a charge for a long time, and I like them a lot! So, as wireless headphones, they're great! But due to the microphone breaking down over time I can't even consider it a gaming headset.
Pros: The headset was easy to use seeing as you just plug the provided USB Dongle. For the price that I got it for the audio was great and the out of the box spatials that you get without EQ's or any other tuning were stunning. I hopped in to some Rainbow Six Siege and footsteps were very easy to hear. The headset is very comfortable to wear and can easily suit people with bigger ears. The pads for the ears feature a cooling gel to help keep your ears cool during long gaming sessions, or whatever else your are doing. I ran some mic testing and for the headset being wireless it had no distortion or background noise and sounded almost on par with a wired headset.
Cons: The headset is slightly small for my big head people but is not too small to where it is uncomfortable to wear. If you are the kind of person who wears their headsets with 1 ear covered then it is slightly uncomfortable at first but then you get used to it after a couple of hours.
The overall headset is very durable. Everything has held up strong except for one part that is pretty easy to fix and not as important. There’s a rectangle part on both sides of the head cushion on the ends that hides the cords underneath. I had the inside half the rectangle on the left (and later the right) come off. It’s easily fixed though as you can put some super glue and stick the piece back in.
I’ve had no issues with connection to Xbox. To pc with the dongle I’ve had plenty so I resorted to buying the ps/pc version that can connect via usb.
The audio is superb. Phenomenal. I went from a cheap thing to THIS and I haven’t changed from it. I don’t think I’ll want to. The game/party is so nice. Sometimes you’re playing games you want to listen more so you can go 85% game audio, other times you’re playing a casual game and thus you can go 85% party. Being able to choose how far and how much on both is just a blessing. The surround sound is just heavenly. I abuse it for all my games and use even the smallest sounds to help me. I can hear footsteps when most cannot!
The microphone on the other hand…is terrible. I do not know if this is just mine or just every one, but mine has so many issues. When you first turn it on, if you try to use the microphone immediately, I’ve had people pretty much tell me that it’s like I’m whispering from 50 miles away. You have to wait and let it “boot up” for it to go to its Normal volume. Additionally, the sound pickup when it’s right in front of your face can be hit or miss. Sometimes I feel like I have to shove the mic down my throat for it pick up what I’m saying. The overall general volume of my end seems to be pretty low in general though when used.
The battery is also horrible. I can leave it plugged in all day charging, turn it on, start playing, and within an hour, the headset will start beeping indicating a low battery. It doesn’t really say anywhere at what percentage of battery charge it does it, but if you don’t plug it in, the thing will beep at you like an angry ex-girlfriend. Just a few beeps, pause, a few beeps, rinse and repeat. And it can do it for hours. Sometimes though (albeit VERY rarely), it bugs outs, doesn’t beep at all, and suddenly you are getting a message at the bottom of your screen that your headset is low and will shut itself off in a few minutes.
All in all, it’s a very great headset. 4/5 stars, would recommend to others.
1. Use a USB 2 port. I have had better luck on it than USB 3 for whatever reason.
2. You might need a USB extension cable to place the dongle in a better place to get max wireless range (30-40ft.)
3. If everything is installed and windows is not playing sound through the headset, check all of the basics before you uninstall Synapse 3 (use Revo uninstaller and select advanced. Delete all drivers and all remnants of Razer software.) Reinstall after a reboot. You can skip installing Cortex.
4. Intel SST will break your audio. If this happens to be the case where you only get sound through Razer Nari and not THX and Razer Nari sounds like crap... Just update the driver for Intel SST USB, and choose it manually. Use the generic Intel HD Audio driver.
5. Charge them up completely, and then drain them fully for the first few cycles.
6. They get LOUD AS HELL.
Top reviews from other countries
I tried out the Sony XM5, which have amazing ANC, sound amazing on mobile but terrible on PC, and both my ears and top of my head start to hurt after 2 hours of use, and even if I take a break for a while it quickly gets uncomfortable again.
So then I decided to give the Razer Barracuda Pro a go, and they sound maybe a bit better than the Nari, have very seamless transition from the dongle to Bluetooth, but the ANC is terrible, I can hear white noise, and there isn't a huge difference compare to ANC off. They are a bit more comfortable than the Sony's XM5, but still hurt after a few hours on the same spots.
So the Nari if by far the most comfortable of the 3 (I can wear them all day with no issues), sound quality is good (I am not particularly picky). 4 years later and the only issue that I have is that the microphone quality seems to have taken a dive, my friends frequently have issues hearing me. I haven't tried to sort it out because I just switched to my laptop's built in mic, so it could be something fixable with a driver update or such.
Would love to have a Nari with the same bluetooth capabilites as the Barracuda (so it could be used on mobile), without a microphone stick and with decent ANC. Would tick all the boxes for me.
