In Walking with Spirits, I share my process for connecting and working with spirits that enables you to get consistent results, while building collaborative relationships with the spirits you work with.

Working with spirits doesn’t have to involve the coercion of spirits that you find in conventional approaches to spirit work. What I share is an alternative approach that enables you to develop a friendly relationship with the spirits you work with and allows you to get results. Instead of trying to force a spirit to do something for you, you’ll learn the following:

  • How to create a rapport with spirits that allows you to become allies.

  • Why a co-equal relationship with spirits is better than any other type of relationship you could form.

  • What the problems are with conventional Western spirit work techniques such as what you find in the grimoires.

  • How to use experiential embodiment to connect with spirits.

  • How to use a simplified approach to invocation and evocation that allows you to work with spirits and get results.

If you’re ready to learn a different approach to working with spirits, where you don’t create enemies, and instead have life long relationships where you and the spirits from working with each other, Walking with Spirits will show you a different path for working with spirits that gets you results.

Review

Walking With Spirits is a nice entry level book. Taylor Ellwood's many years of experience make this part of magic which many writers make too complicated, a simple thing. The book offers a different paradigm of cooperation for spirit work. The most important thing is this book stresses a non-humancentric viewpoint. This helps immensely when working with spirits. It is nice to see this information which contrasts the humans are superior the spirits are far away and need to be coerced viewpoints. Magicians should consider this approach as they delve into deep layers of spirit work. - Valkyr Johnson ★★★★★

Taylor's newest book, "Walking with Spirits," is another well-done book that focuses on modern magick and relationships with spirits. Not only does he continue the theme over the last several years of taking a new, healthier look, at how we interact with spirits, he also adds his stylistic signature of taking a fuller, more comprehensive look at the various types of spirits that are out there. -
Bill Duvendack, Author of Vocal Magick ★★★★★

Taylor asks us to question traditional occult philosophy on how to call and constrain spirits. He recommends "experiential embodiment", essentially evoking and invoking the spirit into your life, then working with it through your life and senses as an alternative to traditional evocation. This method includes a wide variety of ways to "communicate" with spirits including painting portals. He also makes an intriguing case for the spirit world as being a facet of this world. -
Joshua ★★★★★

About the Author

Hi, I'm Taylor Ellwood! I write fiction and non-fiction books. My fiction books are currently focused on the superhero and zombie apocalypse genres, but as you may have guessed I like to write multiple genres and plan to expand to some new genres soon. I love to write fiction with some dry humor, because most fiction stories are entirely too serious and there is something comical about fighting off a zombie invasion while being a customer support rep.

I also write esoteric books about magic, meditation, and other spiritual practices, in order to teach my readers how to get results with practical magic.

When I'm not writing or experimenting with magic, you can either find me curled up with a good book or playing board and video games with my family.

The author writes very well. Shares some quite esoteric info that might not be accepted from some mainstream paradigms but for those interested in learning more about some things that require an open mind, it is interesting.

Walking With Spirits: How To Work With Spirits And Get Consistent Results by Taylor Ellwood is a meaningful and insightful book to get if you are previously familiar with some of Taylor Ellwood’s writings andor even if you are a novice though receptive to the idea of celestial spirit guides. The author writes about his experiences and ideas pertaining to pop culture spirits, the author explains why sometimes reading about a particular person can unexpectedly invite their spirit into your life (helped me to more intuitively understand why I have sometimes unexpectedly had sleeptime dreams pertaining to a certain person/people after reading about them, hearing something connected to them andor viewing something about them even if my own life background is completely different from the sleeptime dream subject(s)), The author explains some of the reasons why working with spirits can at times be a case of the spirits also seeing how consistent the requester is (which I admit taught me an important reminder to keep in mind for my employment/professional/career and money goal requests), etc. I also enjoy that the author generously refers a reader to more resources which both help a reader more thoroughly understand where the author is coming from and the listing of the resources helps with increased spiritual knowledge building for present andor future reference.

Walking With spirits Taylor Elwood

The book is an alternative approach in evocating/invocating spirits. The book starts with asking the important questions like : What is a spirit and how do we work with them. Is a spirit real or is it all in the mind ? Elwood explores classical approaches and new ones on all topics. The writer tells us that spirits are real and not a fabrication of our mind, but the way they appear to us can be given in by our way of thinking about spirit(s).
Elwood suggests the use of 'experiential embodiment' and not only depend on our sight and hearing. Use your body, let the body talk, observe your body when contacting spirits. I tried this approach while walking my new dog this morning and I asked the Archangel Michael to contact me, since he is with me since childhood... I felt this sensation on the inside of my hand, as if the wind was circulating in my hand(there was no wind around me), I guess this is what the author means with experiential embodiment.
As modern people we are disconnected with the real world and especially the body and nature, experiential embodiment might help to reconnect here.
A great sentence I picked up in the book is :"Fear is the saboteur of evocation ", how true this is.
Taylor Elwood also points out that he approaches spirits with respect and without binding and coercion, on an equal basis ... this sound like good advice.
The book is well written with knowledge of the first hand and not like other magic books that seems to be written by amateurs or delusional writers. Elwood knows his language and his subject like the best in the business.
The book ends with a Q&A and a few appendices that are very interesting and educational .
One topic I didn't like is that about magic and cultural appropriation, but that is my personal view.
A copy of the book was given to me by the author for free.

Sound information, especially for the beginner. I too take an un traditional approach, very similar to Elwoods, when working with spirits. While I tend to work with different spirits than he does, the premise is the same.

Walking With Spirits is a nice entry level book. Taylor Ellwood’s many years of experience make this part of magic which many writers make too complicated, a simple thing. The book offers a different paradigm of cooperation for spirit work.
How a magician chooses to work with spirits is ultimately personal. It is a gift to see the way the author’s approach to spirits. The book has gentle information about spirit communication, a good reminder that it isn’t all like in a Hollywood movie. Communicating with spirits is an art and the information he provides helps someone to master the art and be gentle with themselves and the spirit.
The most important thing is this book stresses a non-humancentric viewpoint. This helps immensely when working with spirits. It looks like it will lead to other books about specific classes of spirits. The book is a nice length and an easy read. It is nice to see this information which contrasts the humans are superior the spirits are far away and need to be coerced viewpoints. This is a nice solid creation. Magicians should consider this approach as they delve into deep layers of spirit work. This book is a steady gem and will also give nice reminders to advanced practitioners too. The writing flows and it is worth reading.

This method includes a wide variety of ways to "communicate" with spirits including painting portals. And he asks us to question the occularcentric and audiocentric history of Western occultism. All while remaining conscious of cultural appropriation.

He also makes an intriguing case for the spirit world as being a facet of this world.

He invites the reader to explore the ideas through a series of thought experiments and exercises. Depending on what your practice looks like, this may be of great practical value or purely thought exercises. Really depends on you.

All over, another intriguing work on occult philosophy by Ellwood.

I have been wondering myself about invoking and evoking spirit. I know it is done by others. So as I have some other books by Taylor Elwood, I bought this for clear and practical advice and directions. I feel confident that this will enhance my experience in this area. I have not used it yet, but will be soon. Looking forward to element work too.
