Thrilling
What a thrilling read!! Hoyt and Caroline know each other from before but never acted on it. Now Hoyt is back and they both still feel the attraction. But Caroline is in danger and Hoyt is a firefighter. Not only that, the suspense of whodunnit is well kept until towards the end. Really great chemistry and nail biting thrills. I love Harper Jackson’s first book!!
Great suspenseful romance
I’m a big fan of Kait Nolan’s work, so I of course am going to love her alter ego pen name, right? Most definitely!
Caroline and Hoyt instantly stole my heart. She’s an extremely strong characters..loves her siblings, is a hard worker and is a sweetheart to all who know her. He’s a protector and defender, just what she, and her family, needs in the face of an abusive father and some less than upstanding island citizens.
I loved the mystery involved in their lives…mysteries, I guess I should say. And, that this prequel to a new series began, not with a short novella, but a full length book. We got to meet the “Wayward Sons”, who I can’t wait to get to know better, as well. Oh, and I’ve been singing two specific songs in my head as well, lol. This authors taste in music is as awesome as her writing!
It seems like such a long time until the next book comes out! So, if you haven’t read any other books by Kait/Harper, you’ve got plenty of time. You won’t be sorry!

Smoke on the Water is book .5 (prequel) to the Wayward Sons series by Harper Jackson (Kait Nolan) and what a way to start this new series! 4.5 stars
Hoyt and Caroline had eyes on each other since high school but never crossed the line. He left town, became a hot shot firefighter, returns home to work with the local fire department and runs into Caroline at the town bar and becomes her fake boyfriend…which leads to trouble on so many levels. Unexpected fires, harassment, family issues, whispers, town gossips, fake to real…and so much more leading us into the first book of the Wayward Sons! Can’t wait for the next book in this series…
