Dangerous Deception: Leah Nash Mysteries, Book 9 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 1,260 ratings

Leah Nash uncovers a tangled web of deception, delusion and obsession—with a dead police captain caught right in the center.

The murder of police captain Rob Porter sends shockwaves through the small town of Himmel. And when a member of Rob's own department is arrested for the crime, everyone is stunned.

But journalist Leah Nash isn't buying it.

To her, the motive isn't plausible, the evidence is thin, and the investigation smacks of an overconfident detective eager to solve a high-profile murder. So when Leah's asked to do some digging for the defense, she jumps at the chance.

Leah starts tugging at a few loose threads in the case and discovers that Rob Porter was keeping some very ugly secrets—and not just his own.

As she nears the truth in a twisting tale of ulterior motives and long-buried guilt, a killer with everything to lose will do anything to stay hidden.

Contains mature themes.

As with all the books in the Leah Nash series, Dangerous Deceptions is a 5-star read. Leah once again finds herself doggedly following a path that carries her around unexpected twists and turns (and down a blind alley or two) to find the truth and solve a murder. I love everything about this series - the small-town setting, the easy naturalness of the dialogue and the many unexpected twists that kept me guessing. But I especially love the well-drawn characters who populate Leah’s life. I wish I could get to meet them all in person over a Bonnucci’s pizza to get to know them better. Guess I’ll just have to be patient and wait fot the next installment.

Another quick, easy read. With more suspects, plot twists, and more! Liked the turn at the end. But, got too preachy for me!

Susan Hunter and Leah Nash deliver another great story. As usual, I tried to guess the identity of the murderer, and I didn’t even come close as the book’s twists led me to wrong conclusions. Misdirection is one of Hunter’s great skills as a mystery author. Another is the characters she’s created. Coop, Miguel, Gabe, the Granger family, and Father Lindstrom, among others, are characters I really enjoy reading about. They now seem like old friends or, in the case of the Grangers, devious delinquents you can enjoy from afar. I’ve read and enjoyed every Leah Nash mystery. They never disappoint.

I admit that I did not see the correct ending. It is a real page turner for sure. Thank you, Susan!

I have read all of the previous books in this series and this one wasn’t one of my favorites. Leah Nash is at it again stopping at nothing to find the truth in a murder case. She puts herself in dangerous situations that almost gets her killed. She leaves no stone unturned until she gets to the truth. This story seemed a little less believable than the previous books, but I still enjoyed reading it and finished it within 24 hours.

I have been totally engrossed in this series for the last two weeks. I am totally hooked! Now I have to wait a year for the next installment . ACK! But I do have to say I have enjoyed this series. Love the characters even though the protagonist can be a little annoying. Good stories. Always with a nice twist at the end. Now I have to find something else to read!

Leah Nash is a woman of many talents. She's the co-owner of the Himmel Times paper, a journalist, an author, and a detective wannabe. And that's what ends up getting her into trouble. She wants to be all of these things at the same time, no matter how often Coop tells her not to be. It might be easier for Coop to concentrate on being Sherrif and keeping her out of things if he didn't love her. Dangerous Deception fits her adventures perfectly as Leah finds herself thinking one way and the truth leading her another. Buckle up. This ride is a bumpy one!

The murder of Himmel Police Captain Rob Porter, and a surprising arrest and subsequent confession, lead Leah Nash into an investigation that she would later wish she had stayed well out of. Add to that the surprising arrest of someone in her orbit as part of a drug investigation involving her new lover, and Sheriff, Coop, and you have arguably the best yet in this series. If, like me, you figured much of the ending out early, it doesn’t detract from Leah’s dogged pursuit of the truth, and the wonderful relationships Susan Hunter creates that make you want to move to Himmel, WI.

I gave this a four star because I think she was getting a bit ahead of herself. I have liked her previous story’s better.
