The war on Earth between otherworlders and humans changed things beyond recognition. It also saved Bride McKells's life. This gorgeous vampire used to be a target for every vampire hunter fanatic with a stake and a crucifix. Thanks to the war, she is now free to roam the streets, and is desperate to find others of her kind. She finds help in the one man who claims to have the answers. Devyn, King of the Targons, is a warrior and a womanizer, and he makes no secret that he desires Bride's body. Devyn is an avid collector of woman. otherworld and human alike. That is, until Bride slams into his life. She refuses him at every turn and leaves Devyn with feelings he has never known, a need that borders on obsession. Bride's blood is the key to curing the horrible Scion disease, but by helping Bride discover her vampire origins will bring her face-to-face with a choice between electrifying passion and a destiny that could tear her from Devyn's side forever.
I absolutely love this book. Devyn is probably my favorite male character out of the whole series. He is conceited and let's everyone know how wonderful he is. The way he goes about it you can't help but love him, plus I agree with it. No woman has ever been anything more than a passing fancy for Devyn, especially if he's already had the species. That is, until he meets Bride. She is the first woman ever to knock Devyn down countless times, yet he can't help but come back for more. He has an obsession with her that he can't explain. We also get to find out why Devyn is the way he is, due to his past which is very troubled. Bride, on the other hand, has no idea about her people or her past. All her life has been spent living on the surface trying to learn all she can and survive. With the help of Devyn, Bride is determined to find others like her. Devyn's womanizing days are also at an end, thanks to a unintentional binding, he is now tied to Bride forever. His feelings are complicated and strange to him, but will he be able to sort them out before he loses her? Bride finds she has a destiny that was planned for her and that there are things about herself and her past that are a danger to all those around her. Will she be able to survive? The only thing I didn't like about this book is the shortness of it. It's a full length novel but I would have loved to have even more. Devyn and Bride are very entertaining and this is a must read! Warning: adult content and violence.
