I don’t normally write reviews but I am so pleased with this canopy I don’t understand how it doesn’t have more reviews! I purchased this canopy solely for the purpose of having shade for my dogs while out on the water. My brother also ordered this same canopy for his canoe at the same time as me for his dog. From the design and the quality to the fact that this company stands behind their products and offers a lifetime warranty if you love it and free returns if you don’t. I ordered this canopy on the 17th and received it on the 21st. The canopy comes with everything you need to set it up and only takes about ten to fifteen minutes to set it up. You will need to look at the pictures in the description as it does not come with instructions but it is so easy to follow the pictures online. Once it’s assembled you can go ahead and mount it to your kayak/canoe. Now there are a few things to consider before mounting the canopy. While it can be mounted anywhere on the kayak I chose to mount mine as far forward on my kayak because that is where my dogs sit/lay. Since I was amounting the canopy in front of me I wanted to make sure that the placement was just right so the main support poles and back straps wouldn’t get in the way of me paddling and so I could fold the canopy down and out of the way if I encountered strong wind or didn’t need to use it. All I have to do is unhook the two front straps and the canopy folds back and rests behind my seat and out of the way. I am also able to leave the front straps and unhook the back straps and fold the canopy towards the front of the kayak as well. Now if you ever need to remove the canopy all together you simply unscrew one screw from the poles on each side of the canopy as well as unhooking the four straps and the whole thing comes right off. It’s just as easy to put it back on. This canopy is very light weighing only 8 pounds! I do not need to remove the canopy from my kayak to transport but if you need to the canopy comes off and folds in half in two seconds and can fit in the backseat of a small car. If your really reaaallly tight on transportation space the canopy poles can be taken apart very quickly and easily virtually taking up no space in your vehicle. The canopy is very sturdy and well designed. My kayak is 12 ft long and 32 inches wide and this product fits well but I definitely could have gotten away with ordering this same canopy from this company in the smaller size (2x5) instead of the 3x5. The height on this canopy is perfect and the coverage is great! I posted pictures and videos of my new canopy in a Facebook group I am in called kayaking with dogs and was overwhelmed by the amount of responses I got from other people in the group about how awesome it looked and asking where they could get it how it works, ease of assembly etc. I am honestly shocked that more people don’t know about this product and maybe that is why it doesn’t have that many reviews. I received just under 300 responses from group members regarding their interest in this canopy and am confident a good amount of those people are or will be purchasing this canopy. One concern people brought up was what if it’s windy? Will hsing the canopy if their is a little bit of wind cause the kayak to tip or slow me down? Well the answer is, if its super windy out I think it’s common sense not to open the canopy I’m not sure why anyone would want to go kayaking on a windy day anyways? But if you do encounter some light winds while it may slow you down slightly tipping should not be an issue. For my myself personally I am adding outriggers to my kayak for better stability since my dogs always kayak with me. If a little bit of wind it something your really concerned about when using this product either do go out when it’s windy, fold the canopy down or invest in some outriggers. It would be much more difficult to flip your kayak while using the canopy when using stabilizers. If you are worried about having a little wind and it slowing you down adding a trolling motor is also another option which is something I plan on doing in the near future. Overall this canopy is amazing in every way and I couldn’t be more happy about this purchase! My dogs are also happy to have shade while being out on the water instead of being under the beating sun. Order this canopy you will not regret it! And if you do ( but you won’t) you can simply return it for free.
