Customers are mixed about the sound quality of the keyboard. Some mention that the sound is amazing, tactile, and not too loud. I love my classic mechanical keyboards, but the Matias just nails every aspect of bringing that classic typing feel to a modern keyboard with modern amenities. It's a joy to type on, has a very satisfying sound, and is marked with all the standard Apple keyboard markings, and even includes an Eject/Poweroff key. My only complaint about the markings is that they also include the Option and Shift-Option alternate symbols, which makes the keycaps a little busy to look at. Since I don't spend a ton of time staring at the keycaps, this doesn't affect how much I like the keyboard apart from the aesthetic.
Build quality is excellent. All keys are equally firm and snappy, and while I was initially a little wary of the glossy case, it actually feels good under the palm. The whole keyboard is nice and heavy and has an extremely solid feel. While I still love my Model M collection and use one regularly, I spend more time on the Matias and I'm glad that I do.
But I'm not writing a negative review. Based on the quality of the keyboard and customer support, this product has earned a solid 5-Star rating.
I have a MacBook. The built-in keyboard is serviceable, but not a great instrument for serious typing. The Matias Tactile Pro Keyboard for Mac is a solid, full-sized keyboard, including a number pad. The key travel and tactile feel are great.
Some people may be bothered by the sound — you can really hear each key as it is engaged. I don't mind, and don't have anyone else sitting nearby to complain about the noise. I find the tactile and audible feedback quite reassuring, even inspiring.
After 10 months, the keyboard failed — it started inserting spaces randomly and frequently, even when I was not touching the keyboard at all.
I sent an email to tech support describing the problem, and attached the invoice showing when I ordered the keyboard from Amazon. They replied back later that same day, asking for some additional information, then shipped out a replacement keyboard.
I have seen some reviews mentioning this type of problem with a particular batch of these keyboards. While I did encounter that problem, customer support was very quick to resolve the issue.
Once again, I have an excellent keyboard that makes typing a real pleasure. Unless you’re bothered by the noise of keys clicking, I highly recommend this keyboard for any serious typing.
However, there is a flaw: after some months of usage, the keyboard started to randomly disconnect, forcing me to unplug the USB cable and plug it again. Some more months passed, and the issue magically disappeared. But it came again a few weeks ago. I've been using it for about 1 year and a half, both for Mac productivity and Windows gaming, and sometimes it's annoying.
At home I've been using a vintage PC keyboard with Alps switches but it's PS2 and the PS2 to USB and lack of a Windows key was killing me, so I purchased this, knowing that these guys make the best Alps style switches in the game.
It works just fine with a PC, with the Command key working as a Windows key. (This is out of the box, I made no changes - actually the navigate Apple keyboard functions the same.)
The key feel and fit and finish on this keyboard is super, super nice, with matte keys and a glossy body. It's a bit louder than my vintage Alps keyboards, but the key response is tremendous, which is exactly what you need for fast, accurate typing.
As a Mac user I would totally appreciate the alternate characters on the keyboard, as PC user they just make me a little wistful for my old Mac days and how easy it is to get alt characters on Mac than PC. Function keys just work like normal function keys on the PC, I didn't have to do anything.
Overall, great keyboard, worth every penny, and works fine on a PC.

If you love typing old school, this is for you. A niche piece for a very specific audience. If the new Mac keyboards are too uncomfortable for you, again, this maybe for you.
