Light Strips that work with Dual Band Router, But Not Interconnectable

Light Strips that work with Dual Band Router, But Not Interconnectable
This is the fourth light strip I have worked with and is the best of the bunch. This light strip will work with a dual band router, while many others will not. Also, this is RGB-IC - so it uses three color LEDs to create all colors and the LEDs are individually controlled, allowing you to have different colors and effects, not just one color at a time with limited changes or brightness adjustments. If you want to create custom light effects, RGB-IC is what you need. I ordered these light strips for less than $30 which is a very good deal, even better when you consider these are RGB-IC with WIFI and can be controlled via the TOPO app and via Alexa. I have tried light strips that would only work on a single 2.4 GHz band, no dual bands, but these worked with a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz router, although I am guessing they connect on 2.4 GHz. I had recently moved from the TP Link Kasa app to the TP Link Topo app, if you have things set up on the Kasa app, you can migrate to the Topo app very easily. The Topo app lets you set these light strips up in around 3 minutes. Just plug the strip in to the controller, the power adapter into the controller, plug the power adapter into a power outlet and the lights start chasing in green and orange. Select add device on the Topo app and follow the instructions. It will need for you to enter your WIFI password, but the whole process is painless. Once connected the lights chase a pink and blue. The app lets you schedule, set colors, set or create effects, etc. There are a number of different effects you can choose for the light strip such as lightning, rainbow, candy cane, etc. or you can create your own.. You can control down to small groups of lights for almost endless possibilities. The power supply is a 12V, 3.6A bayonet type supply and the controller has only one button for on/off. The thing I did not realize until I got the light strips is that you cannot extend the light strips by plugging them together, which probably makes sense based on the level of control you have with the individual lights. However, the controller does come with two connectors, so you can connect both light strips to the controller at the same time. The strips are 16.4 feet long each as indicated on the product page, but you can also cut them to length at the specific cut locations indicated on the strips. If you want a light strip and especially if you already have Kasa or Topo devices from TP Link, this is the light strip to buy.

These lights would be great but I wanted to put them under cabinets, above the countertop. If using a warm color they combine alternating LEDs to achieve it, the light that is cast on the wall shows the alternating colors. So a warm white looks like peach color and cool white alternating.

I understand this is how you combine light at very small scales e.g. (RGB in a TV). But at this large a spacing the pattern is too noticable to be considered a high quality light in my opinion.

I'm giving up on smart lighting unless it's settings are on, off, and dim. Tp link I thought would be pretty good, but their software/app downright sucks. It's awful and customization options are supremely limited. To be fair, all companies that tote a product as smart lighting suck, their products are basic at best, with no advanced options except for pre-programmed schemes. Companies need to be sued for calling something like this smart lighting, as it's 100% false advertising and doesn't save you time/money/or make your home look nicer if you have to stand there with your phone and punch in commands for your lights. If you only want one straight shot for say, a desk, everything else is moot and not really smart at all, might as well be the same as unscrewing a lightbulb, and screwing in a different color only this product saves you a few seconds. You can't do your whole kitchen with these, since you can't group 2 separate products together to do the same thing simultaneously. 2 separate bookcases? Forget it, doesn't work.

1. You can't link 2 sets together, so you're stuck making settings for each strip individually, 1 at a time, useless for a kitchen if you have more than one wall of cabinets.

2. App is completely unintuitive. You only have a color wheel to use for custom colors. So if you find a color you like, it gives you the color code for it, but you can't just type in the color code on a different strip, you have to drag your finger around the color wheel to find that color code again ...good luck with a million colors to choose from. Doesn't work at all.

3. Zero instructions on how to extend a strip if you have a break in your line of lighting say from a tall kitchen cabinet to a short one that goes above your sink. Honestly biggest complaint I've seen on this product is how to split a strip to make your setup look nice without having random LEDs just up the side of your cabinet or desk in your eyes. I myself know how to solder and make electrical connections, this brand gives you NOTHING to help you make your investment as nice as possible.

I got these because I already had Tapo products and I hate using tons of apps for different things. I have not been disappointed. These lights seem to be of a bit better quality that other led strip lights I've dealt with. The leds being addressable allows for multiple colors on the same strand. They are dimmable, which is also very nice, especially if you use them around your entertainment center/ television.
Don't use them with the backing on them. The adhesive will expand at a different rate than the paper and paper will come off. This doesn't seem to be an issue with materials you stick the lights to.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much better than Hue light strip

The media could not be loaded.
I’ve got over 80 Phillips hue lights including several hue lightstrips under kitchen counters etc. they are great…. However, after my first foray into the TP-link ecosystem, I’m instantly hooked and can confidently say these are much better than Phillips offerings, not only are they significantly cheaper, they are longer, just as well made, have better pure white, and great patterns and effects that don’t come as standard with Hue, the music match is very responsive, the app kind of lets it down though.
They effortlessly hooked into Apple home kit, and even into the right room, TAPO app is basic but easy to use.
The only negative so far, is the black 2 core cable from PSU to white wifi controller is a little short and they only come in a max 5m length and can’t be extended.

I need to replace a faulty HUE light strip and I’ll be swapping over to the TAPO ecosystem without a doubt. I’m definitely going to try a bulb and see how it compares to Hue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calidad que iguala a Phillips

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the extra cost compared to the tapo version

As tp link make two led strips with Kasa much more expensive than Tapo I ordered both. The kasa has a number of advantages :
. The strips are addressable in sections of about 10 cm and each can be set separately, or turned off.
. The colour setting facility is better
. And you can select white - and set its temperature from really cool to really warm
. You can save five colour settings as presets
. The density of less is greater

Both have the same "fun" sequences so you have fun till you get bored.

The kasa strip responds to a few useful alexa commands, changing colour and brightness as well as on and off. The app also provides scheduling to have the strip come on or off automatically.

I connected four extension sections and put it round the kitchen island plinth. Easy!
