I finally bought this after a lot of research online.
I'll be using this lens mainly for landscape, travel and street photography, but also for astrophotography whenever I get the chance.
I had shortlisted the following lenses:
Samyang 14mm f/2.8
Tamron 10-24 f/3.5-4.5 VC HLD
Tokina atx-i 11-16 f/2.8
I was initially inclined to buy the Samyang because it was relatively cheaper and since it's a prime lens I expected it to have better quality glass than the rest. But since it's a manual focus lens, I eventually decided to not go for it. If I was buying a lens only for astro, maybe I'd go with the Samyang.
The Tamron was a great option too, a bit pricier than the Tokina though. I was attracted by the wider+longer reach of the Tamron (10-24) than the Tokina's (11-16), but the aperture was a deal breaker for me.
The Tokina shines where the others fall short, but it has its own issues.
Some might be turned down with the short zoom range (11-16), while most of the Tokina owners have complained about the poor autofocus performance. Many owners have also reported flaring issues with the lens (the older model).
My initial impressions are that the lens is well built. The focus ring is a bit flimsy, but the overall build quality is satisfactory.
Regarding the issues mentioned above, I found that the autofocus is not as bad as I expected it to be (it's definitely worse than my AF-P nikkor lenses, but only slightly worse than my AF-S lenses). I didn't find the zoom range to be an issue for me, for I'm fine with the versatility that the lens provides at this price point (considering the constant f/2.8 aperture). And after initial testing, I did not find flaring to be a major issue (at least in my particular unit).
Note that all uwa lenses will definitely have minor flaring and distortion issues. You have to understand the limitations of these lenses properly to get good pictures.
I'll be updating the review in detail as I practically use this lens on field.

Wollen wir mal hoffen, dass ich es nicht in diesem Zeitraum in Anspruch nehmen muss.
