Joshua Black.
What can I say about him?
He was my best friend until he wasn’t.
He was my childhood until I was no longer a child.
Now he’s something else entirely.
A man instead of a boy—a soldier instead of a high school quarterback.
He’s forbidden thoughts and secret desires.
Our situation has changed and so have I.
I’m no longer the love-sick tomboy he left behind. I’m a woman with needs, a secret, and an extra fifty pounds.
We promised through thick and thin, but I’m not sure how thin the lines are or how thick he’s willing to go.

Typically the vows of a marriage go, -"I take thee, to love and to hold, In sickness and in health...."
But what are the vows for best friendship? When two kids who have grown up together, played together, laughed and cried and puked and rode together for 12 years like our Joshua Black and Jenny Michael's, how do they honor their vows.....

description

"He was my best friend and I knew him better than he knew himself, and yet, Josh was much more than my friend. He was my first time riding a bike and mud pies in my back yard. He was summer days fishing and mudding with four wheelers behind my house and laying in the grass watching the lightening bugs blink in the darkness around us. He was the reason I knew how to ride a horse and days filled playing in the hay on his daddy’s farm. He was video games and candy. He was everything—my childhood."

description

How do you pledge allegiance to these rocks of companionship and camaraderie and buddy- bestie dynamics?
You promise, with everything in your soul and body, that you shall be there for each other...ALWAYS!!
To share rides, call each other, trust in each other and when life takes them on separate paths after school, to miss each other, call as much as they can, NEVER FORGET each other and come back TO each other. That's how you do it and stick to it!!
“Never leave me again. No matter how hard I push you away.”
Alas!! man Proposes & God Disposes...
Such is the tale of heart eyed BFFs in love, meant for each other young, spirited couple, full of passion and zeal......till life slaps them in the face..🙁
“There is no us. There will never be an us. Let it go.”

description

I generally stay away from YA but I'm telling YA, I COULDN'T STOP READING this story. From the first spin of the tire in the mud swamp, I was covered in their budding love. Laughing and jumping with joy with them, for them
As the twist comes right in the middle of the story, tabatha touches upon very sensitive topics which should be addressed more vehemently in and around us.
"My body was disgusting, and I wasn’t sure I would ever get naked around another human being again. "

description

My heart broke when Jenny hurt
My tears flowed when Josh cried
My gut churned when victims from the fallout were the innocent news.
There's also the topic of physical Insecurity in women after they become maturer...it was heart wrenching to read but I see it everyday on social media interactions, how rampant and uncontrollable it is.
I loved this book, this entire series written so honestly and without any sugar coating at all.. It pinches at the tender most places in the heart and soothes it with overflowing love
5 stars for Gummy Bear Candy

Currently in a reading funk so decided to re-read some of my faves. Is it me or is every new book a dark romance? What happened to the sweet alpha hero? Anyway, this was sweet. Read it for some small town, sweet but angsty romance.
January 26, 2020
What a storyline! I loved that Tabatha provided us a before and after point in this storyline all revolved around what happened between these characters. Childhood best friends Jenny and Joshua are always together, and their senior year they start to realize they might have actual feelings for each other, although they never divulge them with each other until after Josh leaves. But after an accident, Josh pushes Jenny away, but Jenny has a big secret to reveal and he never gives her the chance. Finally back in town though after the death of his father, Josh has to deal with his previous actions and face Jenny, but when she shows up with a son, it turns Josh’s world around because he wants that so desperately with her. As the book goes on, the truth eventually comes out, and while I wanted to shake these two the entire book, I’m glad they were able to turn it around and get the HEA they needed.

Wow this story broke my heart over and over again. Josh and Jenny both fight their attraction and then when events lead to Josh kicking Jenny out of his life for good, he starts a future for both of their families that will take years to heal. I loved Jenny and how strong she was, she made her way after Josh tore her heart to shreds. She truly is a kick butt woman!!! Josh is hurt and I understand him acting out but I wasn't so happy with him through most of the book. He allowed the judgments from the town override the woman he knew all his life. His heart was broken too. You have two people broken but one rises above her circumstances and I loved her so much. This book was simply amazing and it was great seeing the characters from the previous two books in this series. I highly recommend all three of the books. Great Characters, Amazing Stories and an incredible author.

4.5 Gummi Bear stars

Thick and Thin is book 3 in the Chubby Girl Chronicles. It can be read as a standalone. Now, this is my first go-around with this author and I already rectified that. I just went and got her other books in this series and I can’t wait to read them. Thick and Thin can be read as a standalone. I urge you to read it. You will not be sorry. It has everything in it. It has love, laughs, drama, friendship. Just everything.

The pace is great and the writing is great and let’s not forget the plot. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. I don’t normally read high school books. This is sort of a high school but it is setting up their friendship and how they feel and how they grew up together. I felt like I was there at the parties and when they were on the lake. Jenny and Joshua, their friendship was unbelievable. They got each other. He knew when he was in trouble to bring the gummi's. He had a stockpile. They were the best of friends but they both liked each other but were afraid of what it would do to their friendship. Jenny watched Joshua date and didn’t care. Why? They were friends. The same goes for Jenny. She had a harder time though. Joshua warned all the guys off.

Then graduation came and went and he went to boot camp. When he graduated they threw caution to the wind. They told each other they loved each other and were hoping him being deployed and her off to college they would make it work with all the technology. I loved their story. It was truly amazing. Then the drama unfolds here and things change. There is a time jump maybe 40 percent or so in. This is when we see grown-up Jenny and Joshua. Along with a bitter Joshua that is dealing with some demons from his deployment.

Now, this is where the drama and patience come in. I loved Joshua he was such an amazing man. There was a point where I would have loved to set him on fire based on how mean and cruel he could be. Jenny had the patience of a saint and took what the whole town said about her. She was a trooper and very forgiving. The people in this book are great. Her friend was nothing but supportive as was her family.

I loved how the author makes the heroine relatable. She is just trying to live the best life that she can. I read this book in one go and I lost some sleep but it was so good and so worth it. I couldn’t put it down. The ending was absolutely them and perfect.

I look forward to more.

LOVED!! I have followed Tabatha Vargo for quite awhile on social media but for some unknown reason, I have never read a book by her until now and I can honestly say I am a fan!!

Jenny and Josh have been the best of friends since they were little, where one went, the other wasn't far behind. Most of their childhood memories are tied to each other. But now that it's nearly high school graduation time, they are about to go their separate ways. Jenny noticed her feelings for Josh became something more than friendship a couple years ago but didn't want to jeopardize what they had. She's concerned about him enlisting in the military but knows this is what he wants to do and is prepared to fully support him and miss him every day he is away.

Josh has always loved Jenny, his best friend, but has come to realize he loves her as more than a friend. He isn't sure about making any promises knowing that soon he will be far away from her, with him in the military and her several states away in college. Ultimately, he decides he can no longer hide his true feelings and is pleasantly surprised when his feelings are returned.

Can these two nearly lifelong friends make the transition from friendship to lovers? What happens
when adult, grown up issues interfere with their HEA?

This story was truly beautiful!! Tabatha Vargo does a wonderful job telling the story of the sweet friendship that bloomed over the years between Josh and Jenny. I was so invested in these two characters that when they hurt, I hurt with them and when they were happy, I was as well. I shared the feelings of every high and low in between that these two experienced and was sad when the story ended. As a full-figured woman myself, I can identify with some of the feelings that Jenny had about herself years after high school when her body changed and she had gained some weight. The insecurities were exactly what I myself have felt. I highly recommend this book and I will definitely be catching up on her other books!!

"When you were as broken as I was and you loved something, you set it free and prayed to God it stayed gone."

First of all, thank you so much to the publisher for giving me the opportunity to get to know Jenny, Josh and their beautiful love story. I was definitely debating between giving it 4 or 5 stars BUT went for the 4 stars. Why? Josh; I know he's the main guy and he should be my book boyfriend. However, I kinda lost insterest, in other words, he lost me but not completely. Do I love him? Yes I do but at some point, he was mean to Jenny.

What I love about this book was their characters, the writing, and the story. Every single character was well developed and they really were present in the story. I dislike when the author give us characters that only appear once every 100 pages. Every character had their funny, but also serious side. My fave of them is Jenny; she's fearless, strong but also sweet and even though she wants us to see her as nothing can break her, she's also a vulnerable woman. Jenny has real feelings, real insecurities and i love that in a character because it makes it very relatable to us as readers. On the other side, I loved Josh, don't get me wrong but he is SOO stubborn or as I say in Spanish "terco." I didn't like the way he treated Jenny, so for me, if I was her, I'd make him work for my forgiveness. She was so easy on him, really easy hahaha. Sorry Tabatha but I definitely wanted to kick him in the you know what hahahahaha. I really wanted Jenny to punch him on the face for me but she didn't do it!!!

Thank you Tabatha for giving us a story with relatable characters, with passions, dreams, perfections and also imperfections where at the end of the day, all those flaws are what make us humans.

For as long as she can remember, Jenny has loved the gorgeous and unpredictable, Joshua Black. Best friends, they know each other's secrets left and right. To some extent, anyway. Determined to hold on to what lies between them, she does her best not to focus on the fact that her feelings for Joshua are growing. Feelings she knows will change the very world they live in when the time comes.

While I've come into this series via the third book, the Chubby Girl Chronicles is a series that draws the reader's attention and keeps it. I kid you not. A series of standalone novels, Thick & Thin catapults the reader into Jenny and Joshua's story. We're presented with what looks like the perfect couple, yet they're not. Jenny and Joshua are the best of friends, both keen on maintaining the relationship that exists between them. Or so it seems.

I love the fact that Tabatha has written a series of books involving plus-sized women. Women whose lives aren't perfect. Their lives are full of ups and downs, many of which we women in the real world can relate to.

Tabatha has given us such flawed characters that we find ourselves looking forward to exploring the worlds they live in and the lives they lead. These are characters who find themselves in situations that might seem a tad touchy and questionable, at first, yet they're able to make sense of the chaos and adversities that surround them.

I honestly hope we get to see more of this universe the author has created. I so can't wait to see what she brings next to the table. In the meantime, I'll be catching up on what I've missed of this wonderful series.

Thick & Thin was a great 5 sar read and book three in the Chubby Girl Chronicles.

I loved Josh and Jenny. We start with them finishing their senior year of high school and as the day gets closer to Josh leaving for basic, Jenny is starting to get strong feelings for him. Afraid to ruin their friendship she tries to keep her feelings hidden. What she doesn’t realize is that Josh is also feeling the same way.

The story gets so much better and I don’t want to ruin it for the reader. All I can say is be prepared for pain, loss, fear and so much more. We see these two struggle with wrong choices and assumptions. Will they finally get it right and get a HEA? Or will they go their separate ways?

Tabatha has done a great job of pulling you right into the story with her writing. All of the characters are great. My emotions were all over the place. We also see Jenny deal with gaining weight and having body issues. She is beautiful no matter what size she is. I can’t wait to read more from Tabatha and this series. 1-click and get started today.

WOW! Not sure why YA is coming across my kindle so much these days, especially since I usually stay away like it's the plague, but I just love the amazing Tabatha Vargo. That love prompted me to sign up without even reading the blurb, but hey, you never know until you know, but it started as YA then developed into less YA. Anyway, Thick & Thin was YA/NA (?) at it's very best, and it was an emotional ride that I felt deep down to be honest. Joshua Black & Jenny Michael's were best friends growing up, until they weren't. He enlisted in the military, and after he graduated Boot Camp, they decided to pull their big girl panties up & admit to the love they had for each other past the just besties part. They had the plan all set up, him deployed while she went to college, especially since all the technology today made them believe they could make it work. Things went sideways, and she gained weight by the time he had come home. He was a very cruel douche bag, while she was insecure, which really resonated with me to be honest. Every bit of this story had angst that succeeded at making me cry a time or two, drop f-bombs at some twists, and frankly, just the rage which followed Josh's cruelty. Tabatha Vargo is simply brilliant, and I couldn't have loved this powerful story more if I tried! So, just hit your one click button IMMEDIATELY, as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Aww this book got me in the feels man! I was hooked from page one! I couldn’t put it down once I started. I finished this book in one day. There was a part half way through and i just had to know how it ended and what was going to happen. I laughed. I cried. I cursed at the characters when they made me mad, which was a lot. But luckily they figured their ish out and we got such a beautiful ending. Ahh that ending!!!

Josh and Jenny have have best friends since they were tiny tots in school. Making mud pies in the dirt, riding their bikes together, playing video games till their eyes crossed, and apologize in the form of candy. It was really sweet. They lived a simple life, and kept their feeling for each other to themselves, till they couldn’t anymore. And thus started years of pain, loss, fear, sadness, and everything in between. There were parts that were hard to read, and my heart was breaking in two, but i promise stick with it, you will adore how it ends! The big pink glitter ribbon that wraps This story up is just beautiful.

I highly recommend this book for those of us looking, Fir small town living with a hunky farmer and his best friend who can kick anyone butt in pool.

I’ve read both On the Plus Side, and Hot & Heavy, and I couldn’t wait for Thick & Thin to release!! You don’t need to read the other books in the series to read this book.
Jenny and Josh have been best friends since they were small. Growing up in the small town of Walterboro, SC, they had other friends, but it’d always been the two of them. Now it’s graduation, and they were going to be apart for the first time ever with Josh going into the military, and Jenny getting a full ride to Texas A&M. After basic training, Jenny and Josh come together in one night of passion, before heading back to their separate lives.
There is so much more to this story, there’s hate, hurt, pride, love, and family. I had tears in my eyes more than once, and there were a few times I wanted to strangle the characters. It’s a moving story about two young people who go through some of the worst things they can go through only to find each other and their love again. This is a well written book full of complex characters and moving storyline.
I highly recommend this story to anyone who’s a fan of HEA’s and second chances.

I love how Jenny is in high school and how she and Josh are best friends. I like how she is with the guys she hangs out with. I would’ve like to have known about the night Jenny had some problems with some guys. It’s an incident that’s alluded to but never really given details about.
I liked how Josh was so protective of Jenny and how he knew her so well in high school. But it’s funny that all of a sudden he didn’t know her and believed what was said about her. I hated the things he said to her. I think Jenny is wonderful because she is so forgiving. I know she’s loved Josh for so long but she forgives him too easily.
I get that Josh was in a war and that changed a person but it’s like since he changed all of a sudden he thinks those people he has known have changed so much that anything is believable. Jenny should’ve slapped him a few times.
I can see why Jenny let herself go a bit but I wish would’ve worked on her self esteem once she grew curvy. I wish she would’ve embraced. I loved that Jenny didn’t abandon Josh’s parents after the town said what they said about her.
I loved how her brother was with her and seeing her with her sister in law and her niece.
I loved this book. I highly recommend it.

I've not read the first two books in this series, but I'm planning on going back to read those two books as well. This particular story can be read as a standalone, and it took me through some emotions. Told in dual first person POV, the first half of the book gives us Josh and Jenny in their last couple of months of high school, and the evolution of their feelings for each other. We see the hesitance of two people who've been by each other's side for 12 years having to face the reality of one going to college and the other going into the military. Events take place the summer after graduation that change the trajectory of both Jenny's and Josh's life in a way no one was prepared for.

The second half of the book brings us to the present timeframe and the changes that both Josh and Jenny have gone through over the three years of not speaking. I had much respect for Jenny because she kept her head held high despite what the hometown residents were saying about her after she dropped out of college. Both Josh and Jenny have their secrets that eventually come to light and we see them find their way back together with a sweet epilogue.

Best friends don’t usually come in a pair like Josh and Jenny. They have known each other their whole lives and it’s not until graduating high school that things change. The changes happen quicker than a lightning strike.

Josh pushes Jenny away because he isn’t the same boy that left home. He is cruel when he sees Jenny again and makes it clear he wants nothing to do with her.

Then a few years pass and Josh is back home. Jenny has changed as well. At least in the physical sense. People may think she has changed on the inside too as well but it’s just a cold front she is putting on to survive.

Josh and Jenny coming face to face again inevitable. Both are hurting for different reasons that neither know. Their chemistry pulls them together regardless and a fire ignites.

Truths come to light and it’s up to them to decide if they will let it tear them apart.

I love this book! My only wish is that it didn’t feel so rushed once we got about 60% through the book. I would love to see more from Josh and Jenny in the future.

Love love love Thick & Thin!!!! Being a thick person myself I for sure understood where Jenny was coming from. This story is about Joshua and his best friend Jenny. They were inseparable from the tiny age until things happened after high school. When Joshua decided that he wanted to join the military I love that Jenny was very supportive. Actually I loved how they supported each other and their dreams even if it took them in opposite directions. Their friendship was strong but sometimes tragedy happens and things are said. After years of Joshua being gone he's back and well he's about to get a heck of a surprise because all his hate towards Jenny is about to bit him in the ass. Something I like about this story was how real it was. From start to finish I couldn't put this book down. Tabatha did an amazing job with the ebb and flow of the story. And making sure that when Joshua needed to eat crow it was done properly. And don't count Jenny out she was an amazing character to read about. Her love, loyalty, and strength made this book.

I read this book in one sitting last night, this was the type of book that no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t put it down. I loved how we got the back story of Jenny and Josh, how they grew up together as best friends, loving each other all along without realizing how they were in love with each other. I felt so much for Jenny throughout this book, I felt like every single emotion she felt was tenfold and my heart hurt for her so much.

Though Josh had been gone for such a short time after joining the military, he’d come back as if he had been gone for ages, changed completely by his experiences in war. Though he left Jenny with irrevocable changes herself, it was those changes that in the end would bring them back together. There really is so much hurt in this book, so much pain and grief to get through before these two characters get their happily ever after but it was so worth the wait.

This was my favorite in this series. Loved their youthful friendship turned something more. Turning eighteen and moving in with the next phase in their lives was supposed to be exciting. But on the other side of the world Josh was facing a harsh reality and when he came home he was not the same boy. He was a man who pushed her away and said horrible things. But unbeknownst to Josh, Jenny was facing a life altering situation. The strength she showed? Wow. She let everyone believe lies rather than telling the truth. Maybe it was the coward’s way out or maybe it saved her. Either way, when they meet again years later, the hurt and resentment bubble over. Yet somewhere along the line it changes and sparks of the real Josh and Jenny start to shine. Soon they are better than they were at eighteen, stronger and wiser. But the secrets they both hold could destroy them. Telling the truth shouldn’t be this hard when it’s the one you love.

I love this series and really enjoyed Jenny and Josh’s story. We were introduced to them in On the Plus Side as young teenagers. Their story in this book begins when they’re in high school. They are best friends who realize there may be more to their relationship than just friendship. I loved seeing how they progressed from friends, to figuring out they love each other, to them separating to lead their adult lives, and the even that changed everything. My heart hurt for both Jenny and Josh. Josh with how his life had changed after war and Jenny for being hurt and how he pushed her away, while keeping a secret from everyone. This was such a great story. I just wished it didn’t seem so rush after their reunion. I wanted to see more of them as a couple and them figuring out their new normal. If you loved the previous books, this is a must to read.

A very well written story with it’s great characters and a very emotional and heart wrenching story about two life long best friends.

One moment changes their friendship to a possible heart stopping romance, but neither of them could have anticipated the future they would come to face - leading to them becoming enemies. When one tragic moment changes Josh’s life forever and he pushes Jenny away he had no idea it would lead to her harboring a secret for years to come that could change his life for the better.

This emotional romance has all the feels and will pull at every single one of your heartstrings as these two go from best friends to lovers to enemies to lovers to their HEA with a couple of surprises along the way.

Highly recommended!

Ok so have to start off by saying this is my first book by Tabatha Vargo on her own and I haven’t read any of the other books in this series but that all changes now!!!! This book had so many emotions you will not want to put it down!
Josh & Jenny have been friends since grade school and when at the end of High School these two finally decide to give into their feelings the world works against them. These two have obstacle upon obstacle to see if they can find their happily ever after together. Keep your tissues handy and make sure you do not have anything else to do as you will not want to stop turning the pages!!!! I can’t wait to read more!!!

Oh my heart is doing the happy dance right now for Joshua and Jenn. What started as something innocent as friendship that turned into more at the wrong time. Josh was leaving to the army and Jenn was leaving to attend college in Texas, so when were they going to have the time to really explore themselves as more than just friends!

I enjoyed this book so much the dynamic of this story and the couple it revolved around. The ups and downs and tribulations they both went through and the things they experienced.

I had a blast reading this book, I enjoyed how they went from being best friends, to lovers to enemies to lovers again.

The fact that Jenn went from being skinny to a thick girl won me completely.

Tabatha Vargo has done it again with this book i loved the first two chubby chronicles and this one was just as awesome.

I loved how we got a backstory of Jenny and Joshs friendship and how intense their friendship was and just how they grew and were both fighting thier feelings for each other.

But nothing compared to their story when they left high this was emotional and raw and god my heart broke for what Josh goes through being in the military and then what Jenny goes through coming home from college.

For some reason this book just hit me in the feels and i loved everything about it, the story was written perfectly.

Loved loved Jenny and Joshs story and it just made me want to read Devin and Lilly’s story all over again

This series and this couple have my heart! The stories are all so real and you can't help but feel for the characters in them.

We finally get Jenny and Josh's story, and it is everything my angsty heart loves in a painful second chance romance! This pair of friends is perfect for one another but of course there's just about every obstacle in their way. Some huge secrets, some pushing one another away and a lot of heartache inbetween, they may finally get their second chance and HEA.

Loved everything about this one. She NAILS small town teenagers and friends to lovers tension.

Highly recommend!

This is definitely my favorite Chubby Girl Chronicles story so far (and they're all great). I enjoyed this story so much! I loved reading about Josh and Jenny ending their high school experience and jumping head first into "real life" and all the troubles and fears that come with it. Things take such a drastic turn that it changes just about everything. For both of them life changes more than they could have ever imagined. I loved everything about them coming together and their HEA. Sometimes I wanted to slap Josh, but he gets better. There's something about Josh getting what he wished for being the sweetest thing I've read in a while!! Definitely check out book 3 in the Chubby Girl Chronicles.

Very nice story!

I don’t typically like a high school romance but this progresses out of high school quickly. This is a friends to lovers to nothing, book! Lives change, kids grow up & some have to grow up quicker depending on where life takes you. A great depiction of the popular girl in school who ends up being the girl everyone talks bad about in the small town she grew up in. This is Josh & Jenny’s story, but could easily be any young adults story. I liked this book so much, I read it in 1 day!
This is my first time reading this author and I very much look forward to more of her books!

My thoughts for this one are all over the place because on one hand I read this in one sitting because I couldn’t stop and it made my heart hurt to the point that I cried a bit. Then on the other hand it was just an okay book for me? I didn’t swoon or giggle or get those romantic feelings for the two main characters it was just an angstfest that caused my heart to bleed.

This is a friends to lovers to enemies to lovers with a lot of hurt feelings and some secrets.

I rounded this up to 4 starts because it caused me to cry so obviously I was feeling things. I just wish I was able to swoon for these two.

Jenny and Josh are great characters, complex, emotional, and loving. I adore that this story starts with them as ending their childhood together and recaps the foundation of their relationship. The story is emotional and a little stressful at times because you just want to reach in and smack them both, but it progresses at a steady pace and all the ups and the really crappy downs are needed to get us to the end. LOL Descriptive and captivating, you feel like you are part of the journey. Loved it!!

I just want to say THANKYOU to this author for putting YA books out there with real characters. Characters that have “flaws” that aren’t solid tens when it comes to their physical appearance. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH BOOKS OUT THERE FOR OUR YOUTH THAT ARE IDENTIFIABLE REAL CHARACTERS THAT DOESNT LEAVE PEOPLE FEELING LESS THAN— this book does that and it’s so, so important.

So past that amazing detail of this story. The hero and heroine are best friends to lovers/2nd Chance love/ plus size characters that truly love each other and must navigate all the complexities of loving your best friend.
