The Seven: The Lost Tale of Dellerin Kindle Edition

3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 263 ratings

Ruin befalls any who speak the tale of The Seven.

They said The Seven were the greatest mercenary outfit in all of Dellerin. Respected, loved and feared. Only they could accomplish the impossible; the gods themselves blessed them. But when they disappeared, no warriors could halt The Dark One's emergence and his ruination of the world. And the Seven's tale was soon lost in the darkness.

Until now.

In the war-ravaged city of Dellerin, a strange book has survived The Dark One's gaze. Veiled, warded and awaiting a warrior worthy enough to discover its mysteries, the pages of "The Seven" are about to open.

Can one book hold more power than ever imagined?

From bestselling author, Robert J Power, comes the first book in a new blockbuster dark fantasy world where evil reigns, demons roam, and enchantments cost your very soul. If you love grimdark fantasy filled with antiheroes, unpredictable action, and raw emotion, then The Seven will keep you reading into the night. Fans of Spark City be warned, this tale is far darker than Erroh's.

Review

"The Seven: The Lost Tale of Dellerin is a work of fiction in the fantasy, action and adventure sub-genres, and was penned by author Robert J. Power. Suitable for adult readers, the work contains many scenes of violence, the use of explicit language and sexual scenes and references. The plot takes us deep into a world of unlikely heroes, where despair and ruin have overtaken the lives of all who have survived. The Seven are a thing of legend: a band of warriors destined to rise up against the dark, and the opening of a mysterious book which has survived The Dark One's gaze is about to bring legends back to life.

A truly dark work that is not for the faint of heart, the worldbuilding and action-packed storytelling of author Robert J. Power will be sure to suit readers who love grimdark fiction and fantasy with lashings of horror overtones. I for one adored the highly cinematic use of description and atmospheric language, bringing us into a dark and tragic world where our heroes are nothing like the traditional heroic figures of typical fantasy novels. I was also highly impressed by the originality of the new magic system in this world, which held together consistently and never felt overdone. Power has a vivid writing style that will keep you deep in the action, so if you're prepared for a truly wicked ride into the shadier side of fantasyfiction, I'd recommend The Seven for your next fiction fix." - 5 Stars, Readers Favorite

Robert J Power is the fantasy author of the Amazon bestselling series, The Spark City Cycle and The Dellerin Tales. When not locked in a dark room with only the daunting laptop screen as a source of light, he fronts Irish rock band, Army of Ed, despite their many attempts to fire him.

Robert lives in Wicklow, Ireland with his wife Jan, 2 rescue dogs and a cat that detests his very existence. Before he found a career in writing, he enjoyed various occupations such as a terrible pizza chef, a video store manager (ask your grandparents), and an irresponsible camp counselor. Thankfully, none of them stuck.

If you wish to learn of Robert’s latest releases, his feelings on The Elder Scrolls, or just how many coffees he consumes a day before the palpitations kick in, visit his website at www.RobertJPower.com where you can join his reader’s club. You might even receive some free goodies, hopefully some writing updates, and probably a few nonsensical ramblings.

I have very quickly become a fan of Robert J Power. His books are fun and have a nice set of characters. He is one of the few modern day authors that can use multiple characters consistently in back to back scenes and makes it look easy. In comparison to the other book I read (The Crimson Hunters) which was also good. This book takes a more serious tone and focuses more on the overall dynamics of the story instead of the characters. This isn't bad because it just flexes how Robert can write both character driven stories and or Stories that move a character regardless of if they want to or not. If you want a light strip with comedy then get the Crimson Hunters but if you want a serious time then get this book.

Loved the story, world building strong, I just found story hard to follow…still I enjoyed the writing, the premise of the story, the characters and the pace. I trust the second and following books will continue to improve. Thank you, Robert Power.

This is a dark fantasy. Nope, no unicorns to be found within these pages. I liked the female members of the seven. Actually I felt sorry. It's the age old story of how women had to use their wiles and bodies to survive. All the characters started out likeable. But after reading, I understood their hell

This story is written like nothing I have read before. Each section revolves around a different character and it comes together in a delightful way. It is engaging and fast paced. The character and world development is very rich without it feeling like the story ever drags. It has all of the typical high fantasy components and much more! There is some gore but it always serves a purpose in helping the reader to connect with the characters. Yes, at times the character seem to survive unsurvivable moments...but that's why it's fiction! This book is just a lot of fun, excitement, and emotion. I'm starting the next book tonight!

Very wordy and often boring. Just tell the story and leave out the fluff. Taking 7 pages to describe an emotional moment is ridiculous.

I guess I kept hoping for more. I certainly didn’t expect you to cut the cast so quickly and with such horrific endings. Saying that I would like to read the next book and see if they can be redeemed.

Very different from the usual fantasy.
It left me uncertain if I liked it or not.
SPOILER: most of the main characters, die in quite stupid ways.
