This is a fantastic lens !
I purchased this lens because this is my daughter's senior year, which means her final year of track before moving to Idaho for college, so i wanted to get some amazing shots of her before she leaves...while staying within my narrow budget. There is no VC (Vibration Compensation), no zoom lock, no weather sealing, no switches of any kind. To change from manual to auto focus the focus ring is a push / pull switch, and no US warranty which drops the price a couple of hundred dollars. It is however in Tamron's SP line of lenses (Super Performance) which means you're getting top of the line optics. It is 100% internal focusing, super sharp, and it looks fantastic as well. I am not overly excited with the color reproduction, but chromatic aberration is nearly non-existent. It comes with a large petal style lens hood, a tripod shoe, and a pretty decent padded case...with no shoulder strap sadly, a strap would have made the case perfect. This lens is also pretty heavy for lack of electronics, but not nearly as heavy as other 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses. This lens did take some getting used to, not sure why though. Before i bought this i went to the local camera shop and tried some other 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses that were way out of my budget, i put them on and started shooting as usual and the images were perfect. I had to change a few things on my Nikon D200. I also noticed some weird compression on some images at 70mm, like shooting down a fence row, it made the fence look like it was only half as long as it actually is, it looked great, but i just found it strange.I also found (in my opinion) that this lens is best at f/5.6, if i have enough light i shoot everything at that f stop as it super sharp. Close up objects / people in f/2.8, the focal point is crazy sharp as well. I prefer shooting this lens at 70-105mm, the closer you get to 200mm, the softer the image gets. I have only been using this lens for a few days, and we have had some dangerous wind chills, so i have not really had a good chance to get outside and see what this thing can really do. But from what i have seen so far i am very excited to get this outside, maybe to the lake, and really test it out.If you are on a budget and are in need of a fantastic lens, you cannot go wrong with this one. For the price, it's brilliant.EDIT: I have had been able to spend some time with this lens now, and have gotten used to shooting with it on almost a daily basis. I pretty much use it for shooting abandoned buildings, old barns and one room school houses. I have done some macro work with it just to see what it was capable of, and it has really impressed me. This thing has some amazing depth of field also, the Bokeh is very nice. Now that i am more familiar with this lens i am updating the photos in my review to some better shots i taken with it lately on my Nikon D200.

Great lens! Just like brand new! Great, fast focus. It is heavy but was expecting that (I have a regular f2.8).
I chose the free shipping. Wasn’t expecting it until April 16-May 6. Got it on April 5th!!! Was super excited.
It also came in a nice case for storage!

It's what I was expecting after reading reviews but didn't think it would really bother me. Sadly I've missed some shots due to the poor autofocus performance. But when I do get the right shots they are gorgeous.

The first copy performed so poorly shooting a night time girls soccer game I thought it was a defective copy. I returned and got a second copy, which performed similarly. The auto focus was slow and inaccurate, each shot was a dice roll. I didn't find it sharp, even on the easy shots. Used a 7100 body and monopole. I suspect this lens would do okay in a very controlled environment, like portraits. Sellers were good and shipping fast. I really wanted to like this lens but could not. I cannot recommend.

So far so good! I was a little bit skeptic with purchasing something so much cheaper than a Nikon Brand, but it has taken some great shots at our sons football games! I would give it 5 stars but We have only used it a few times and Im not that familiar with it. Still though.....very satisfied with the value and purchase we made!!
