Blind Date Bet (Man's Best Friend Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 1,331 ratings

Never say never…

After loving and losing a soldier once, Isabella Knowles made a vow: No more military men. She’s rebuilt her life and has a classroom full of fifth graders to love, which is more than enough even though her father doesn’t agree. When he sets her up on a blind date, she only goes to humor him -- never dreaming that the man she meets will tempt her to break her one rule.

In theory, Ethan Masters is not opposed to the wife, kids and house with a white picket fence. But he loves his career as a K-9 handler in the air force, and a dream promotion dangles before him like dog tags. While contemplating his future, he accepts a drunken bet for a blind date, never dreaming that the captivating woman fits perfectly into his ideal, all-American dream. Only one problem. She's gun-shy about all things military.

Can Ethan prove to Isabella love is worth the risk?

BLIND DATE BET is a standalone read with a happy ending. There are some sexy scenes if that is an issue for you. This is a military love story. Ethan is single, his job is working with the K-9 unit. He deploys and takes his dog with him. They are first ones in and clear the building to be sure it is safe for his unit.

Isabella is a very young military widow. Her husband was killed during a training exercise. They were high school sweethearts and married right after graduation. He signed up right away and during training he had a freak accident and was killed. She has vowed to never date a military man again. Her dad was also military and they did not have a good home life. Her mother had enough of deployments, etc. and she left the two of them. That was another strike against military life.

Military life is not easy. It takes a different kind of woman to make it work. This author covered that angle quite well. I was a military wife for 30+ years. You have to be very independent and able to function on your own when you have a 6 month deployment to go through.

This is a good story and I definitely recommend it. One thing that always fascinates me is when a woman doesn't want to be with a military man because they are afraid he will get killed. It is like as long as you are a civilian you will never have an issue. In today's world you can get killed walking down the street! Or be in an accident, etc. Now deployments are a different thing. It is all in how you look at it. Lot of wives do sit around and moan and groan about every little thing. On the other hand you can use that period to do whatever you like. I have 3 children (adults now) and we had a good time during that period. Meal time was more relaxed. If deployments were during the summer, we would travel and do things we enjoyed but their dad wasn't interested in. So deployments can be difficult sometimes. You can miss big holidays, births, have to move by yourself, etc. But like any other life it has its good times and difficult times. This author did a good job of covering all of that. I would definitely recommend this book.

I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 1/14/2023

I enjoyed Ethan and Isabella’s love story. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. Isabella is a teacher and a widow who’s husband died during a military training exercise. She has since sworn off military men. Ethan is a K-9 handler with the Air Force. When they are set up on a blind date, Isabella immediately ends the date as soon as she recognizes Ethan’s military haircut. She ultimately decides to give him another chance and contacts him. In order to get to their HEA, their is a bunch of baggage to unpack mostly for Isabella including that she must deal with her past because it continues to negatively impact her life. Her past results in a lot of c’mere, c’mere, go away, go away moments. I was less fond of Isabella’s character than Ethan’s but still enjoyed them together. The story included sweet moments, steamy scenes, chuckles, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, and heart squeezing love. 3.75 stars

Ethan and Isabella had an instant attraction, but she has a lot of baggage. She kept sending him away, then stewed in her misery. Then went back to him. While the premise was interesting, I found myself irritated with Izzy. Easy to read & sweet when it was working for them.

Loved the storyline between Ethan and Izzy. Could not put the book down! Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

A book like this is a pleasure to discover. Well-written, cleanly edited. Professional. In a sea of substandard novels, it shines.

Recommended.

Very good military story. She is a military family upbringing and widow as a result of a freak accident the killed her new husband even before his first deployment. (sidenote: my former husband did army reserve after his service and one of his people was killed in a freak accident during reserve training so I could accept the premise in this book). Her military dad sets her up with this Airman responsible for being lead with his dog in deployments. Her fears keep getting in the way. It is a beautiful story how it all works out. Heartwarming military families support. There is quite a bit of hot sex that can be skimmed or skipped if it is not your thing.

Izzy was previously married and he was killed while on a route training exercise so she wasn't looking to date a military man ever again. E then wanted to meet his other half but so far was having no luck so he was staying single. 10yrs post later, he dad set her up for a date. These two had a few rough starts since they first got set up by her dad and his bro at arm. But as she came to know him she fell hard and they had a few twist and dips to overcome to get their hea.

For me the characters were a little dull. I didn't get any camaraderie and Isabella annoyed me through most of the story.

Liked the premise of healing her fractured relationship with her father.
