Great Bag great over all
4 Stars
Great Bag great over all
I wanted a bigger pack to put my camera and lens and this one is quite large. The easy access on top is nice when the pack is upright, however, since there is more height in the bottom half of the bag the bigger lens are there, so I lay it down most of the time. The outside material is very good and even though the bag comes with a rain cover, I think it can resist some light rain for a short time. The zippers are smooth, and the zipper handles are easy to get to. I have had the bag for a few weeks in heavy use so far. I don’t see much use for the hard-plastic case and it would be nice if it was removable. It’s not big enough for an iPad so not sure what else you could use it for. In my case I am storing batteries in there. The grab handle in the middle is strong. Some review claim this can break in time, I would not suggest carrying it that way for a long time and a heavy load as I can see that wearing out in time. There is a large area next to the straps in back where a laptop can fit. Not sure why anyone would carry a laptop there. Maybe they were thinking one bag carries everything and that is not a good way to look at it. It is a nice place for an iPad because it is large enough. The extra spaces outside of the bag are nice for other items you need in photography. The inner bag on the top half is a little annoying because you need to unzip it to get to the lens. That said it does act as safety catch in case you forget to zip the main outside close. The top is designed well, and it is pretty easy to get the camera in and out. I have 5 slots for lens and the camera can fit in with a standard size lens attached. The bottom has a inner bag but I don’t really see any use for it being inside the pack. The bottom can take longer lens upright which is was one thing that was a must. I have my Canon 100-400 and 180 macro in their own slots with more room for others. The area that is used to attach the dividers to the sides of the pack are not wide enough. They weaken and can slip out of place with a heavy lens, others have noted this as well. Then need to be attached very well, I may look for a way to place them more solid.Overall it is a great pack and it really carries easy on the back. I easily have about 20 pounds in there and the main strap handles are strong enough to easily lift it. It is large and I think it will fit in a overhang on a plane but not under the seat. It is worth getting this if you need to travel a lot and hike to your areas to photograph. There is a strap to carry a tripod and place for a water bottle and snacks.Update: The seam is tearing on the seam near the left shoulder strap. I suspect this was a defect so I just returned it. I was going to order a replacement but other have the same problem with tearing. I don't think it can handle a lot of weight for a long time. Also I did find a good use for the hard plastic, makes a good place to store a small flash diffuser.

5.0 out of 5 stars Going strong.
Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2020
After more than a year of use, this bag isn't showing any obvious signs of failure. I got this bag primarily for it's size, since I guess I have a problem with gear acquisition. Currently it carries one DSLR body with battery grip, and another crop-sensor DSLR, an 11-20mm f/2.8 lens, 17-50mm f/2.8 lens, 70-200 f/2.8 lens, 150-600mm lens, 35mm Macro and 90mm Macro lens, 1 pancake prime lens, and a 50mm prime lens, plus filters, 12 batteries, a charger, compact tripod, remote shutter, rain poncho, and various other minutiae I'm sure I've forgotten, all internally, sometimes with a little effort. Despite pretty much over stuffing it, the back of the bag stays flat and comfortable against my back. The shoulder and waist straps are wide, soft, and comfortable, despite the heavy weight. The side pouches and straps work well for carrying larger items like full size tripods, monopods, and even my travel stool (though I do wish I could release the side straps with a buckle, to more easily retrieve items without taking the bag off my back).

Dividers inside the bag are good quality and protect my gear well, and I haven't had any issues with moisture making it inside the bag either when it rains, though I usually cover myself and the bag with my poncho once that starts. I haven't had any problems with stitching thus far, and that's despite attaching a Peak Design QR plate to the left shoulder strap and regularly hanging more than 7lbs of camera+lens off it.

My biggest complaints are about the design; I'm not sure I find much benefit in the upper and lower sections being separate, and wish the interior was instead one contiguous compartment to allow better versatility, and I wish the back opened for access to equipment. These were things I knew purchasing the bag though, it's kind of hard to find a camera bag that ticks all the checkboxes on my wishlist, and they're not big enough complaints that I feel the need to replace the bag either.

Unless I find the magic camera bag that does every single thing I want, I expect to still be using this bag in five years, based on it's service thus far. Overall I'm very happy with it, and with my ability to fit everything I want to bring with (which is almost certainly far more than I need to bring) relatively comfortably.
