Makita's Barrel Grip Jig Saw, Model 4351FCT, combines power and superior feel with substantially less vibration and noise for improved cutting performance. The 4351FCT features a barrel-grip design for closer-to-work cutting.
Makita-Built MotorThe 4351FCT has three orbital settings plus straight cutting, powered by a Makita-built 6.3 AMP motor. The electronic variable speed control (800 - 2,800 SPM) is engineered to maintain consistent speed throughout the cut for superior results. The motor is dynamically balanced for 40-percent less tool vibration and lower noise than competitive models. The 4351FCT has a 1-inch length of stroke, with a wood cutting capacity of 5-5/16 inches at 90° and a steel cutting capacity of 3/8 inches at 90°.
Ease-of-Use Features
Ease-of-use features were also engineered into the 4351FCT. The saw weighs just 5.5 pounds, with an L.E.D. light to illuminate the cutting surface and a built-in dust blower to clear the line of cut for greater visibility. The ergonomically designed rubberized barrel-grip design provides a closer grip to the work surface during cutting. The patented "tool-less" blade change system provides fast and easy installation and removal of Tang shank blades. The die-cast aluminum base adjusts up to 45° right or left with a positive stop at 90° for solid cutting performance. An on-board hex wrench is included for fast, accurate bevel adjustments.
The 4351FCT Barrel Grip Jig Saw is ideal for woodworkers, cabinet makers, remodelers, and general contractors seeking a best-in-class top handle jig saw. The 4351FCT is just another example of Makita's commitment to innovative technology and best-in-class engineering.

The t-shank blades can be quickly and easily swapped out without tools, the saw includes a plastic cover for the shoe, and a small LED lights the cut line. A lever on the side of the saw allows the blade action to be easily changed from straight reciprocation to an orbital motion that helps in cutting through thicker materials by permitting the blade to shed chips more easily. The speed control lets you slow the blade for use on metal or speed it up for wood and softer materials, and the soft start means it doesn't try to jump out of your hand when you turn it on. It is also a very smooth running saw, and not obnoxiously loud.
I strongly considered the Festool jigsaw as an alternative to this one, but I'm glad I went with the Makita and saved $150. I do own other Festool products so I appreciate their level of quality and design; however, this Makita saw easily matches Festool in terms of quality and "feel" of the tool. Of course there is no dust collection on the Makita, but with most cutting operations on the jigsaw most of the dust falls straight to the floor anyway so I don't really miss the dust collection.
The saw comes with a durable hard plastic carrying case that has a little bit of storage in it and a fairly long heavy-duty cord, both of which are becoming quite rare on tools these days, but are certainly appreciated.
update- I've used this for about 2 years and for the price point it's a great value.Cuts are very smooth, low vibration- you can shave off pretty small amounts which is good performance for a jig saw.Cuts are square it will do very tight turns without bowing or snapping off the blade. Great tool for the low price.
I quickly got it out of the box, was simple enough to install a blade and I was cutting in no time.
The splinter guard was in place. After a few practice runs for accuracy I stopped using the “V” on the splinter guard as a guide and slowly gained a feel for the kerf of the blade to ensure accurate cuts
I like the slow start, and vibration was very minimal, especially compared to an old black and decker my dad handed down to me
As noted in other reviews, blade does not self eject (Which is fine, takes a second to grab it with a something else so as not to burn your fingers) but at least no tool was required to install it
I don’t recall seeing the guide light, was a bright sunny day of course so can’t comment on that
I did utilize the plastic foot cover which was nice to limit scoffing of wood
Nice it came with a case as I try hard to keep tools organized in garage and put in their proper place
Had read differing ideas on barrel vs top handle/“D” shape, again my only comparison is that black and decker, but do like the control and feel of barrel grip more
Overall, great buy, eager to try curved cuts more in the next project
