Dynaudio’s Flagship Studio Monitor

The Dynaudio Core 59 is the flagship monitor in the company’s high-end professional reference series. Featuring state-of-the-art Class D amplification, cutting-edge DSP, and a super-inert 32mm-thick baffle, this 3-way speaker delivers flat frequency response from 42Hz to 21kHz (±3dB). Dynaudio has long been known for their sweet-sounding soft-dome tweeters; their latest 1" Esotar Pro HF driver builds on this heritage, providing hours of pinpoint imaging detail without the listening fatigue that plagues many other monitor designs. Dynaudio’s proprietary 5" MSP cone midrange carries the critical vocal range, allowing you to make decisions on vocal balances and solo instruments with complete confidence.
Core 59’s 9.5" long-excursion woofer controls the bottom end without sacrificing powerfully deep low-frequency extension. Depending on your needs and control room size, the Core 59’s innovative Orbit baffle allows flexible positioning for use nearfield, midfield, or as a main monitor — or even soffit-mounted. However you use it, the Dynaudio Core 59 is a serious tool for the discerning audio professional.

Esotar Pro tweeter

Sweetwater knows that listening fatigue is the bane of every studio engineer’s existence. Once it sets in, you’re done working for the day. Dynaudio’s Esotar Pro tweeter features an ingenious component — the Hexis device, an inner dome that sits just behind the diaphragm and optimizes airflow, smooths out the frequency response, and eliminates undesirable internal resonances. The result is exemplary imaging, superb transient detail, and effortless extended high-frequency response.

5" MSP midrange driver

The Core 59’s 5" midrange driver delivers incredible detail. It uses Dynaudio’s proprietary MSP (magnesium silicate polymer) cone material for the best combination of lightness, stiffness, and damping. Coupled with an aluminum voice coil, the MSP cone allows incredibly quick response and authoritative control from its neodymium magnet system. With crossover points at 312Hz and 5.1kHz, Core 59 carries more of the critical vocal range in one driver than other monitor designs, ensuring that you can make decisions on vocal balances, solo instruments, and dialogue levels with complete confidence.

9.5" long-excursion woofer

Core 59’s low-frequency driver is the result of over 18 months of intensive R&D into subwoofer technology, including Dynaudio’s own 18S sub, which extends bass all the way down to 16Hz. The outcome of that painstaking research is a new copper voice coil and glass-fiber former, pushed by ceramic magnets and a 500-watt Class D Pascal amplifier. It gives the 9.5" long-excursion woofer even more grip on the bottom without sacrificing a deep frequency response.

The Orbit baffle

Dynaudio revolutionized speaker positioning with their AIR series, making it possible to use a 3-way speaker in multiple orientations without compromising the midrange driver and tweeter’s phase response by using sealed midrange/tweeter assemblies that can be rotated in the cabinet. Core 59’s Orbit baffle rotates, so you can use it in left-, right-, or center-channel orientation. You can even position the monitor with the woofer above the midrange/tweeter assembly to accommodate placement in an LCR array in front of a console.

Flexible positioning

To account for placement in a variety of environments — on their sides, vertically, or perhaps even inverted — Dynaudio gave the Core 59 cabinet indentations on all four sides to accommodate special Dynaudio pads that protect the cabinet’s finish and stabilize the speaker on the mounting surface. Core 59 is also compatible with standard VESA mounting brackets or Dynaudio’s custom K&M bracket should you wish to mount them on a wall or ceiling as part of a multichannel or immersive-format monitor system such as Dolby ATMOS.

Precise input sensitivity and output SPL calibration

The noise floor and signal resolution of any monitoring system is critical to its performance. Whether you’re using the Core 59’s analog or digital inputs, you need to be able to control the gain staging between the monitor controller and the speaker system. To that end, Dynaudio gives you a range of 0dBu to +24dBu to match the analog input sensitivity to the output level. Once optimized, the Core 59 processes all analog signals at a 192kHz sampling rate and 64-bit resolution in the DSP (from the 24-bit A/D converter) for the highest degree of mathematical precision.

There’s also a switch to determine the maximum output SPL with the greatest bit-depth in the DSP. For the maximum level, set it to 112dB. If you tend to work at quieter levels, choose a lower SPL setting to optimize the bit-depth of the DSP for both inputs. When using the AES digital inputs, you must determine which channel (left or right) of the AES stream is used for that monitor. Core 59’s DSP operates at the incoming sample rate and either locks to the digital audio clock or word clock to maintain the most accurate signal possible.

Sophisticated DSP that’s easy to use

When setting up a monitoring system, positioning is critical. That’s why Dynaudio gave the Core 59 two DSP filter switches to address its position and room boundary locations. The DSP is quite sophisticated, but thankfully, it’s easy to use. If you place the monitors on the meter bridge of a large-format mixing console, simply set them to “Desk,” which will help compensate for the first reflection created by the mixing board. If you mount the monitors in a purpose-built wall, setting the Position 1 filter to “Soffit” will compensate for the increased low-end response.

You can compensate for the boundary effects created by placing a monitor close to walls or a ceiling by switching the Position 2 filter between “Wall” or “Corner.” These filters help compensate for the reflections created by the boundary walls, particularly in the lower frequencies. If you’re using the Core 59 with a subwoofer to extend the low-frequency response, there’s also an 80Hz Linkwitz-Riley highpass filter that can be engaged.

Unique Sound Balance filter

You can also use DSP to alter the overall presentation. The Sound Balance filter differs from the shelving-EQ tweeter and woofer adjustments found on typical active monitors. Instead of simply fine-tuning the tweeter level up or down — which will affect phase response — the Core 59 employs a full-spectrum bandpass filter that tilts depending on your desired tonal response. In the “Dark” setting, the entire frequency response is tilted so that 20kHz is down by 1.5dB, while 20Hz is up +1.5dB. In “Bright” mode, the tilt is reversed. This gentle filter maintains the proper phase response between the drivers while providing the overall tone you desire.

A serious tool for the discerning audio professional

Dynaudio designed the Core 59 to be used in a wide range of professional audio production applications: music mastering, mixing, and recording; theatrical re-mixing; editorial and sound design for games; or anywhere you need an uncompromising critical monitoring system. It can be used for nearfield, midfield, or main monitoring, and even soffit-mounted. Equipped with both analog and digital connectivity, DSP-controlled acoustic response, and versatile positioning, it’s perfect for high-SPL immersive audio and other multichannel formats. Whatever your monitoring needs, the Dynaudio Core 59 delivers unerring monitoring accuracy and low listening fatigue. So what you hear is what you get, no matter how long the session is.

Great sound from a mid-field monitor

These monitors with their class D amplifiers sound great and are silent when nothing is playing. I am not sure why one of the reviews here states they are noisy, it's not the Core 59s that are making the noise (other than accurate audio).

Simply Amazing

The imaging and quality of these speakers are truly on another level. Super flat frequency response with crossover points out of the vocal frequency range. I prefer a monitor that shows if your mix sucks—which of course is also dependent on your listening skills, space, and acoustic treatment—but my mixing went through the roof once I was able to accurately hear what was truly going on in my mixes. You can't fix what you can't hear. Plus, they are extremely versatile in terms of being able to reposition as your studio/mixing locations change throughout your life (including the simple, integrated dsp). Would highly recommend, and thankful I made the investment.

Precision

A higher end three-way design just reveals issues a two-way cannot. It's simply a massive time and frustration saver. Because I can hear the subtleties, the Core 59's profoundly influence the mixing and mastering process. I can't fix what I can't hear. Yes, they're a bit pricey... but I could have paid foe them two and a half times for all the other monitors I trudged through over the years. I highly recommend them.

Awful noise commonly known in DynAudio monitors

It's a joke to pay so much money for the most noisy monitor ever. Even their Lyd series has less noise. No matter what SPL you would choose it will sound noisy.
