Storyworthy: Engage, Teach, Persuade, and Change Your Life Through the Power of Storytelling Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 1,793 ratings

A five-time Moth GrandSLAM winner and bestselling novelist shows how to tell a great story - and why doing so matters.

Whether we realize it or not, we are always telling stories. On a first date or job interview, at a sales presentation or therapy appointment, with family or friends, we are constantly narrating events and interpreting emotions and actions. In this compelling book, storyteller extraordinaire Matthew Dicks presents wonderfully straightforward and engaging tips and techniques for constructing, telling, and polishing stories that will hold the attention of your audience (no matter how big or small). He shows that anyone can learn to be an appealing storyteller, that everyone has something “storyworthy” to express, and, perhaps most important, that the act of creating and telling a tale is a powerful way of understanding and enhancing your own life.

Inspiring, tactical, and memorable. Loved learning about the art of storytelling and hitting a glimpse into Matthew’s world. Excited to start practicing my storytelling craft.

Easy to read. Invites you to get better at something you even didn't realice you need. It's good for general knowledge on the subject, not specific to someone that wants to get better at storytelling in a particular situation, I guess the broad purpose was intentional.

Highly recommend for writers, speakers or anyone who wants to learn to tell better stories.
Storyworthy book is worth the read.
If you apply his practical principles you will come out a much better storyteller.

Looking to be entertained? Looking to be a better story teller. The author has convinced me that good storytelling isn’t about crazy events retold but normal everyday experiences told in compelling fashion. Learn. Be entertained.

In my 34 years of life, I can count the number of books I have read on both my hands (audio books excluded). Whenever I start a book, life inevitably gets in the way and i just stop reading. As I get older, the amount of quiet time I have to myself continues to dwindle; its down to about one hour at the end of the night when the kids are asleep. In order for a book to catch my attention and successfully garner a portion of my precious hour, it has to be good. I am pleased to say that this book consumed all of my free time until I finished it a few weeks ago. Succinctly, it is a wonderful book. If you listen to Matthew's podcast "Speakup", and read this book, you become quickly aware that Matthew Dicks is the Ken Jennings of the story telling world. He may or may not have won the most Moth Story Slams, but in my opinion, he is the best. He seems to have figured out the recipe for telling a really good story. If that is something that interests you, you MUST buy this book. Not only does he explain how to tell a good story, in this book you get to read a few good ones too.

The title of this book is not just for show. You CAN change your life through the power of storytelling. I am proof. One of his techniques for generating stories is called "Homework for Life" and it truly life-changing. I will not go too deep into that one because it will mean different things to different people. Just know that you will not be disappointed and will want to share this with everyone you know.

A perfect companion to this book is Matt's podcast "Speakup". I highly recommend you go back to episode one and binge-listen. If a master class in story telling is what you seek, get this book and listen to the podcast.

Another neat thing about the author is that he is accessible for questions. I have emailed him a few times and he always responds, adding to the already long lists of why Matthew is one of my favorite authors/storytellers/podcasters.

Long story short, buy this book. Best quantity to buy is by the dozen, don't just buy one because you will want to gift it to your friends.

Cheers,

Taylor From Texas.

I’ve been a fan of Matthew Dicks since hearing him tell Mike Pesca about Homework for Life on The Gist podcast. It sounded like a great idea, but I didn’t take the advice at the time.

Reading Storyworthy makes it seem inconceivable not to at least try to mine my daily life for Storyworthy moments.

The storytelling guidelines and tips in this generous book are better than any I’ve come across in the endless books about writing and creativity. They’re specific and immediately doable.

They are applicable not only to writers and speakers, but to anyone who wants to get better at telling stories and connecting with audiences in any context.

Reading this book has already changed the way I design webinars and workshops. It has even changed the way I connect with the people I’m closest to.

I’m looking forward to see where paying attention to a few basic but critically important storytelling principles will lead.

This book sat on my desk for 3 days while I pondered if I should even give it the time of day. I bought it on a whim after reading Ali Abdaal's recommendation in Feel Good Productivity. When it arrived I thought I didn't have time for this. I am in the middle of writing a memoir, I have a business to run. Before I sent it back I thought it wouldn't hurt to read the first few pages, just in case. I haven't been able to put it down since. This book has been a game changer on what I can write. So glad I listened to my intuition and gave it the time and space to digest it.

Et tu n’as rien à dire.
