A slow, mellow romantic manga about two adults who meet while smoking behind a supermarket. I like their friendship and the slow burn nature of the manga. The interaction between the amiable and anxious 40 year old Sasaki and the 24 year old Yamada is heart warming and occasionally makes me laugh. The first novel sets up the things to come up well. I only wish the rest of the chapters could be in print a bit sooner. It has a matte cover and is slightly thicker and shorter than my other manga, which almost makes it feel more like a print novel. I got it for myself on my 24th birthday and it’s easily my favorite piece of fiction ever.

Sasaki is a middle-aged salaryman who is fixated on a friendly young cashier at his local supermarket named Yamada. He also spends his nights smoking behind that same supermarket with a bad girl named Tayama. And, in the way that Daily Planet employees can never figure out that Clark Kent is superman, Sasaki can't figure out that the two women he sees most often at this supermarket are the same person.

This is an oddball manga for sure, and the main character reaches nuclear levels of density, but it's still a sweet story. It's also a super slow burn age gap romance (the two characters are almost twenty years apart in age). The age gap may bother some, but I have no issues with it. These are two adults, after all.

At any rate, this manga was far better than I expected. Highly recommended.

I could equally see a romance developing between the main characters as I could see them remaining platonic th entire story and I would personally be happy with either outcome. Actually, smoking is really bad for you. You shouldn't smoke, but you should read this very fine slice-of-life manga. The characterizations and art are nicely done and it was a bit of a struggle to keep myself from reading it all in one sitting.

Already pre-ordered the next volume and can't wait to see what Sasaki and Yamada are up to out back.

this manga is a great lighthearted read for anyone looking for a fun, adult-setting romcom

wish amazon packed small books in appropriate sized envelopes (my envelope was 3 times the size of the book) and also that they came protected with plastic or bubble wrap... luckily this copy didn't come damaged but it has happened in the past and could be easily avoided... would be nice if publishers sold them with plastic wrap from the get-go like they do in japan.

Funny and heart-warming! Even though I hate smoking and find it utterly disgusting I still love this manga and can hardly wait for another volume! The characters feel very real and it is truly enjoyable to get a glimpse into their lives and watch their interactions. The one thing I always worry about with romantic comedies is that there is no progress. Well, time will tell! I do hope that Yamada (Tamaya) and Sazaki will get closer to each other and that the Yamada's manager will get plenty of entertainment!
