The temperature indication is spot on, very accurate. The design is sleek and well constructed. The issue I was having with this unit was not being able to maintain tank temperature in a very cold room, even though I oversized the wattage/gallons ratio by over double the recommended specifications. I believe the shrouding around the glass mildly hinders heat distribution so it is important that this unit gets adequate flow from the filter.
I placed the heater directly under my filter return but still randomly had scenarios where the temperature dropped and stayed in the blue, even for a couple days. Then it would rise to green and maintain no problem. What I realized over time was whenever I did water changes or added water, the temperature dropped that night, even if the water added was warmer than the tank water. As the water level dropped over the next few days from evaporation, the temperature rose back up to normal.
My hypothesis: If the water level in the tank is a hair too high, there is less disturbance created from the filter return, even though you are still achieving the same turnover rate. Try either lowering the water level in half inch increments until the temperature is able to maintain, or try rotating the heater sideways to achieve more flow through the shrouding. I recommend the first option because turning the heater sideways looks ridiculous with the digital display.
I now maintain 77-78 degrees constantly in a 55 degree room and would purchase this heater again. Fluval makes excellent products.
All temperature control aside, I find this to be an incredibly useful feature for overall aquarium maintenance. If my temp display ever turns red/low-flow, it basically means it’s time to service my filter. It has become restricted and isn’t turning the water over as it should anymore.
I am committed to proper aquarium maintenance. That said, I have plenty of better things to do than clean filters that don’t need cleaning. Thanks for the smart clean filter notification Fluval!!!

Tank info: 36 Gallon, set on 78-79 F
This heater does the job most of the time. It struggles in the winter when ambient temperature in the house is below 70 F. I have to add a small additional heater in the tank during winter to keep the temperature within range.
Pros: Set up and ability to change temperature is a breeze. The settings and color differentiating lights would make me purchase this heater again. Checking on the tank temperature from across the room makes this heater worth it.
Cons: The independent mounting bracket and suction cups do not snap together well. The suctions cups do not stay attached to the mounting bracket and sink to the bottom. The mounting bracket slides off and on the heater too easily. These two flaws make occasional cleaning a hassle. Another con is on the protective casing, it is a magnet for snail and fish reproduction. The space between the heating element and the casing always becomes clogged with eggs and egg fertilizer. Therefore the flow around the heating element cannot properly heat the tank. Not sure if design wise this could be fixed or if it is just my fish making a mess. I saw a tip online that tilting the heater at an angle and placing it closer to the suction from the filter can help with low flow issues. This tip did help, but did not eliminate the issue.

Must for Aquarium Fish Lovers
The LED temp window is bright and easy to read (unfortuntately, it reads sideways now but hey ho...). Back light is green when temp of water matches temp you set heater at using the little orange lever at top of heater. Very easy to do. If it fluctuates by 1 full degree lower than your setting the screen turns blue. If one degree higher, the screen turns red giving you time to sort the problem. If it rises beyond 1 degree extra the red flashes. There is no red indicator light to tell you it is heating but you would very quickly know if there was a change by the temp window colour! I dont think it needs it, besides if you are bothered you can see the element glow if you peer in! From any position in my livingroom, I can see my heater is working fine. Happy bunny.
Lo dejé toda una noche a 27 grados y por poco se me mueren todos los peces.
