Rogue Ethereal #4

Sister of Embers & Echoes

Rate this book
Demons, murder, and a trip straight to Hell...
I thought I'd get a little time off before the veritable poop hit the fan, but fate -- or rather the Fates -- have other ideas. The witch who tried to have my sister possessed has escaped, and not only do I find him dead, but I don't have a clue who he was working with. Or working for...

Now I have a Council Member in human jail, a ragtag bunch of stuffy law-abiders to lead, and a solid inkling that the next person on the chopping block is me.

All of that would be bad enough, but I've got bigger problems. Maria isn't quite right after a demon almost stole her body, and I have a hunch it's going to require a trip to Hell to get it fixed.

Time to sharpen my athames. Vacation time is over.

If you have read any of the previous installments in the Rogue Ethereal series, you know what to expect; drama, secrets, bad-ass women, demons, other supernatural creatures and figuring out how to get oneself out of trouble. 'Sisters of Embers and Echoes' carries on the torch and manages to raise the bar even higher while keeping the same feels from the previous installments. Helping yourself is already a pain in the butt, Helping a friend will send you to hell - literally. Great book. Very entertaining. Fast paced, quick witted and oh, so attention grabbing and holding.
Annie Anderson has nothing to fear - she hasn't lost a step in bringing Grade A work to the masses. A Recommended novel in a recommended series.

Max is back with hunky Alistair by her side in a race to save her sister Maria. Along with her gang of Scooby’s Max is off on another adventure full of snark and mayhem. I love the writing in this series, it is fast paced and entertaining and the characters grow in depth with each new story. The twist at the end sent my head spinning with soooo many questions and a wish for magic of my own to produce the next book in my hands NOW! If you are looking for a great read, this is it!

ONE ENTHRALLING ROLLERCOASTER!!!
Hell's knocking! Annie lowers the boom with this jaw dropping, mind-blowing, nailbiting, chart topping, block busting bombshell, throwing this baby into the eye of the storm, blowing it into a tailspin with astonishing results. You are not going to believe how this installment plays out. Ramping up every emotion, racing through you unchecked melding this baby together seamlessly. A multitude of inadvertent events and daunting circumstances catapults this little fella to a whole new level. Encountering the drama, intrigue, tension, danger and soaring suspense, keeping you riveted on a razors edge. Add turmoil, distress and perplexing situations along with a boatload of trouble, blazes this baby to life beautifully. Bridging the trials and tribulations, along with a slew of unexpected twists and crushing turns, tempting our characters in ways they could have never anticipated. Illustrating impressive, well rounded scenario's, that punch dead center with such exuberance and style, blasting this little fella into a tizzy, catapulting it to staggering heights. The characters are authentic and realistic with qualities and traits that blend into amazing personalities. The scenes are so colorfully descriptive it paints an elaborate backdrop that makes the storyline pop. Fantastic job Annie, thanks for sharing this little fella with us

Another excellent entry in a strong series

Yet another strong book in a consistently strong series with the strongest and baddest of...women as its lead character.
I signed up for Annie Anderson's ARC review squad. I rarely do such things but this is a special series. Our mc, Max, is one of the strongest female leads I've ever seen. She's right up there with Dante DeCesar, and that's really saying something.
Max continues to learn more about her origins. Some of it is shocking. She must overcome danger and obstacles in her quest to rescue her sister and expose the criminal who kidnapped her and who has wreaked havoc in the council. Alistair is an important part of this book and we learn more of his difficult background story also. The pace of the book is fast and that fits with the rapidfire but well reasoned decision making of Max. She discovers a dangerous weakness and the reasons it can be used against her. Poor Max! Nothing is ever as it seems in her world or even in hell, where she must go to try to save her sister.
This book was fast, fun and totally satisfying.

Sisters. Witches. Shifters. Demons. Death.

This book is full of craziness in the way of demons, witches and a helluva lot of Max being pushed to her limits. Just when you think the road is going to end... Max finds another way around the problem. She’s more determined than ever to find out why things are the way they are.

Darkness and the unknown paired together lead her down a path that could end her life - quickly. But Max being Max, she comes out on top. She may not be all together and in one piece but she’s on top.

The journey and self discovery that happens throughout the pages of this book are fascinating. You get to see Max grow more as a person, and the things - all new to her - that come to light will shock the crap out of you.

I laughed (a lot thanks to Max and her snark), I cried and I think I chewed a few fingernails off while this book came to life before my eyes. It was a fabulous addition to the serie and I can’t freaking wait for the next book.

I recieved an ARC of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
Now, one thing I like to do when reading a book from an author I haven't read before is to pick a book from a series, not the first one, and see if I can get into the story without having read the first ones. I've found all my favorite authors this way (Bertrice Small, Laurel Hamilton, etc.)and have now found another!
This book is so well written, you get drawn into it and just when you think you know what is going to happen next, it twists a different way, keeping you interested all the way through and begging for more.
I would recommend this book to everyone, regardless of whether they have read the first 3 in the series, although you will then want to buy them just to see what you missed.

Sisters of Embers and Echoes (Rogue Ethereal Series #4)
by Annie Anderson

***5 stars***

Max is at it again! Murder, mayhem, and a few twisty turns we've come to expect from our feisty rogue and her gang of misfits.

She's on a mission to save her sister, Maria, and let no human or demon get in her way. Max sometimes feels she has no one in her corner, and tries to push people away, but she has the coolest and most elite backup around.

We also get a look into Alistair's family, and let me tell you what I think of daddy. King of the dirtiest douchebags! Did I mention how much I love this man? And how perfect he is for my girl, Max?

Annie Anderson nevers fails to amaze me with her fantastic stories and characters, and I will continue to be a devoted fan always.

Max is the coolest chick EVER!!!!

So here we are, trying to figure out what happened with Maria and what Max can do to fix it. As always, fixing it isn't exactly what happens.

All the stuff happens, there's the bad guy that we really didn't see coming, everybody tells Max not to kill anyone and Max just does what she wants cause she's the baddest chick around!!!!

Two of my utter most favorite Max moments....

"Yes, I was in a dress and heals and a strapless motherfucking bra. No, I was not going to be taken hostage or killed because I was afraid one of my girls might deviate from her assigned seat."

"What in the blue fuck is this woman talking about?"

Now, can we have book 5 now cause I NEED book 5, NOW!

Book four hits the ground running and doesn’t look back! I loved the steamy developments between Max and Alistair-finally!-along with their crazy jaunt into the depths of Hades to try to save Max’s sister. The Fates, Max’s family, and close friends also had starring roles, providing levity and reason when needed most. And sometimes, it’s really needed.... And I can’t tell you how many times Max’s sarcasm had me grinning like a loon when she was facing off with powerful beings!

Max is fast becoming a favorite female lead, ranking up there with Kate Daniels, Elena (Guild Hunter series) and Cat (Night Huntress series)! Max takes names, metes out justice, and is dangerous to know-sometimes the good guys when she has an oopsie with her powers, but especially for the bad guys! I love her snark, the bluntness, and her side of humanity that keeps her family and friends so close. Her powers keep my eyebrows raised at times, but know she’s doing what she does for the greater good.

Annie Anderson is one of my favorite authors and I know that whatever she writes, I am going to love it!

This book is no exception. We find Max trying to get her sister, Maria, to wake up after a Demon tried to steal her body. Add in the hunky Alistair, a man who seems just right for Max....or is he?

There is plenty of action (of course), snarky comments (oh yeah!), a little love and loads of great world building and character development. Max has suffered so much through her long life and deserves some happiness, but it seems to always be just out of reach! Add in her continued need to fix everything (even when it's not her problem) and you just know that trouble is ahead.

You have plenty of magic, a villain that you love to hate and Max....what more could you want? The next book in the series, of course! Thanks, Ms. Anderson, for continuing to amaze me with your imagination and writing skills!

This is the fourth book in The Rogue Ethereal Series. It picks up where book three left off. The journey that Max goes on is full of danger, isn't always though.

Annie has created a world that is full of magic, mystery, and intrigue. I'm excited for book five, but the ending of this one. I died, it was a wonderful journey that was full of all the emotions. Love, heartbreak, and grief. Annie's series has given me some new female leads who have captured a piece of my heart. This was an amazing book that I recommend.

I did receive an ARC but this does not affect my opinion of what I have read.

I loved this new addition to Max’s story. She’s definitely one of my favorite characters. It was thrilling to go on this new adventure with her. There were many twists and discoveries made on her journey to save her sister. I really liked getting to know her new companion more too. I can’t wait to find out what the the next book has in store for them.

I love Max! This book was filled with action, suspense, Magic. Max’s sister Maria has been kidnapped by a super demon so Max tries to find out who and where this demon might be hiding Maria. As usual, with Max, things tend to not go so well. Goddesses, witches, dragons, phoenixes, all sort of ethereal being are involved. And the twists and turns, didn’t see the ones at the end coming for sure!! Definitely recommend this book, took me about 8 hours, with a dinner break, to read this because I couldn’t put it down.. I received an advance copy for my honest review. Awesome story, get the books!!

Sisters of Embers & Echoes...

"I didn’t trust anything when it came to this case. Nothing was as it seemed, and I wouldn’t put anything past the former witch." - Maxima

Her sister Maria still under a spell? A curse? In a coma? Maxima is desperate to find the cure, and bring her sister back from whatever ethereal plane Maria was lost on. Every spell that Max had attempted had little or no apparent effect. Needing answers, and with a sense of time running short, Max decides she should interrogate Elias Flynn again.

But Maxima is almost permanently ended when she walks into the warehouse where Elias was being held. Someone or something had found a way to overcome the wards and set Elias free... Or did they?

Hellfire will rain down when Max discovers Elias's escape was just a diversion, that the REAL target was Max's sister Maria's soul.... Or was it?

Holy buckets! Fasten your seat belts because this is one.wild.ride!!!

“I’ve got a location. Who wants to do a little grave robbing?”

Max is back again and it’s been a week since all the craziness of her last adventure...

Max has a new job and because this is her life all of hell must break loose right before she gets to work. She’s got a sister in need of care, a villain to question, traitors to find and well a whole lot of mess to deal with. All of which she of course does in her very own Max-style all explosive and snarky.

Max’s first day as Sentiel is like:

“That was me working my ass off trying to figure out this web of bullshit you just let happen on your watch. What, exactly, would you say you do here? Sit on your ass, dreaming up ways to ruin my fucking day?”

Classic Max... but anyway....

Maria hasn’t recovered from her recent torment at the hands of Elias Flynn. Max knows only the man who tried to sacrifice/demon possess her sister can tell her how to fix things. Because life is never easy she instead finds trouble brewing all over Aether. With the bodies stacking up she has to find her fugitive and the puppet master who was pulling his strings. The chase is on and her investigation leads her to one man. Who she might have an unfortunate connection to and who would love to use her for his own means. So it’s off to Hell we go!

Demon Princess or not Hell isn’t exactly a welcome place for anyone to travel. With her trusty Paladins sidelined there’s only one demon Max trusts enough to trek through Hell with. It’s a dangerous mission with a dangerous powerful demon pulling the strings. Max will of course do anything and go anywhere to try to save the lives of those she loves. She’s died plea to of times for her friends so of course she would go to Hell for her sister.

And what happens in Hell? Craziness of course and some surprises but the road through Hell is paved in spoilers.

I must say I like Alistair I hope things between him and Max can be something. I mean he seems to be the only one to get her and all her issues like right away unlike certain people she’s known for a long time. I adore Barrett and Marcus they are awesome. Teresa and Andras are... well I suppose they could always be better parents but I guess at least now they are around for better or worse. It’s like Max went from having no family and a few friends to having more family time than she ever asked for. I never liked Ian but I would prefer him hanging around to Striker...

I HATE Striker he’s the absolute worst person EVER and if I could find a way to kill him through the book I would. Max needs to put him in the curb and leave him there I’m done and over him he has absolutely no excuses for anything he has ever done in the whole series. First he was the one to drag Max into that Melody situation that almost got her enslaved then he convinced everybody else not to tell Max before when Maria was kidnapped.

One thing though about Max that will never stop irking me is her need yo take responsibility for EVERYTHING. For things she didn’t do for things done to her or done to others for things that don’t have anything to do with her. Max likes to take on the guilt and shoulder the burdens of the world which I find aggravating but I still love Max her extensive issues and all.

Anywho another great Max action packed wild ride of an adventure with some highs and lows but the worst part other that Striker’s continued breathing is only that it ends. I even read slower this time tried to space it out but still I reached the end. But I’m looking forward to the next.

Really? What the ever loving - F. Max cannot get a break. Book 4's pace does not slow down. I'm also not stopping as I'm trying to read this book between meetings and during my lunch hour. That is how addicted I am to this series. Less than 24 hours and I'm still burning through book 4 of 6.

The problem with Max is that she is a problem solver. Give her a problem and she cuts through the red tape and gets the job done. Want to have a tough problem fixed? Give it to the overwhelmed busy person, because that person will get it done. I think that is why I like Max so much. I understand her attitude and her ability to remove obstacles. She tries so hard to be politically correct but let's be honest. She is short on time, sleep and patience. She's not had a moment to breathe as she is hit by one thing after another. She is not running on a full tank of gas. Something has to give. But no, no rest for Max.

This one is a painful one. Max can count on 1 hand the people she holds dear to her. Of course, that is why 1 of them has to be taken from her in an extremely brutal way. Max has no choice but to go after the assholes who stole her sister and she will go to Hell to get her back... literally.

This paranormal, maybe urban fantasy is now moving more towards romance as Max starts a sort of lethal courting dance with one of Hell's Knights. Granted, Alistair is high up there and she kinds of owes him a favour. Making deals with a demon is not recommended and yet, Max does it. Sometimes I wonder if Max would be such a risk taker if she didn't keep coming back to life. It is as if Max throws herself into the path of danger. Her martyr attitude should grate on me and yet, it doesn't. I feel so much sorrow for Max. I am not sure how she survives. I am liking her interactions with Alistair. I have hopes that he will be the one to balance her out and keep her even keeled. Because whilst she doesn't follow a single rule, Alistair is a by the book kind of guy.

This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who enjoy angst and heartbreak.

Another dip in shark infested waters

Max, the witch with a knack for finding trouble, gets sent for another dip in shark infested waters without a cage. As the story progresses another impossible task is issued, a new facet to her life is added, and the outcome received is never the outcome she wishes for. Annie Anderson sure knows how to make readers wring their hands as they wait for the other shoe to drop.

Emotional

This book was extremely good! This entire series is extremely good! I have never given an entire series 5 stars each book, but I did this one! Every part of this book was great. The ending destroyed me, though! I lost my little brother eight months ago, so when she is going through her grief, I can completely understand what she is going through! This author put into words exactly what it feels like to lose a sibling What I felt and what I continued to feel Apart if you die with them, and you can never truly get yourself back because it's with them. At that point, I had to put this book down and walk away. I did come back to it about two hours later. After I bawled my eyes out. This author has become my all time Favorite, reading this series. I can't wait to start the next book to see where Max goes.

I'm still not sure that I understand the plots of each of these books in this series. I really like Alistair as a MMC partner for her, he seems to balance her better. With Max I'm frustrated because everyone is apparently always lying to her or betraying her and now instead of who she has been it's once again altered to change from witch/demon to fae. I'll go with it because I still have two more books to read.

This story just keeps getting better. There is always a mystery to be solved, a who done it, and why did they do it. Throw in a damsel in distress and Hell, there is a great story. The focus on this story in my opinion is family. We get to learn a lot about Max's family. There are certainly lots of revelations there. Her love life definitely takes a turn, and the circumstances can only be described as magical.

The ending was definitely a tear jerker, however the cliffhanger left me anxious for more!

It's always an adventure with Max in each book and this one did not disappoint. So much is here from magic, chaos, murder, mayhem, to love, friendship, laughter and even a little heat thrown in. Fantastic characters. Annie has created this fabulous world for us to enjoy. I loved it from beginning to end and cannot wait until the next installment!

Anderson is a force! The latest installment of the Rogue Ethereal Series is full of shocking revelations and unexpected twists! I spent the majority of my reading experience one of three ways: with my mouth hanging open, with a big smile on my face, or commenting aloud...to myself. I must have been a sight. I just couldn’t help but be completely immersed in this story. The action, the adventure, the excitement, it was gripping! I’m so thankful that there are a couple books left in the series, I’m not ready to let Max go yet.

Sister of Embers & Echoes
is the fourth book in the Rogue Ethereal series and continues the story of Max and her friends.

It’s been awhile since I read the third book in the series, so I couldn’t remember every detail but once I was in the story, I couldn’t put the book down. I loved the previous books in the series so it was no surprise that I was going to love Sister of Embers & Echoes too! And look at the cover: it’s so stunning! I mean every cover in this series is so beautiful!

Max is such an amazing character to read about. She’s so kickass and I just love her. And Alistair… He has a special place in my heart! But Striker on the other hand… I kind of hate him. He hasn’t been the best friend to Max…

Sister of Embers & Echoes was yet another amazing book in the Rogue Ethereal series and I loved reading about Max and her friends! I cannot wait for the next book in the series, Priestess of Storm & Stone! BTW have you looked at the cover of Priestess of Storm & Stone, it’s so stunning!!
