Product Description

For synthetic suedes and elastic knitwear. Constructed with two needles on a cross bar from a single shaft. Sews two rows of decorative stitching at the same time on stretch fabrics or knitwear. Only for use on zig-zag machines. It comes in sizes 2.5/75 and 4.0/75 (select above).  Choose the size based on the type and size of thread being used. To avoid snags and needle holes on knit garments, it's a good idea to use a new needle for each project. Schmetz style number 1774 and 1775, respectively. One (1) needle per card. A Qty. of "1" = 1 card.

Great needle, but what's the deal with the "stretch" label?

Great needle, but what's the deal with the "stretch" label?
I love Schmitz needles, but really don't see any difference between universal point needles and the so called "stretch" needles. I get great results with both. For beautiful hems on knits, I first glue baste the hem in place with a thin line of Elmer's school glue, set it with a dry iron, then top stitch with a twin needle. In the picture, the red stitches are done with the Schmetz stretch needle and the black stitches are done with my old Schmetz universal point twin needle. I see no difference in performanc or quality.

This is the perfect tool for making a mock coverstitch on knits. I like having the ballpoint stretch needles to work with knits. Universal point needles can skip stitches when used on knits and these do not. I just repaired a skirt cuff and the difference between the repaired cuff and the coverstitch from the factory looked almost the same. No one will notice that I did the one cuff at home. I did break a needle one time, but the thread had gotten snagged and put a lot of stress on the needle before I noticed what had happened. Otherwise, these have performed well and I can't blame that breakage on the needle since it was a machine problem.

I did a lot of research on sewing swim suits. And they all talked about using a twin needle for finishing off the hems and still allowing a stretch. First time working with this material. Very easy to use and thread, the quality was nice. Worked perfect. For first time making something like that, came out perfect. I recommend this brand.

Shipped very quickly. The clear plastic covering was cracked but that wasn't a big deal because I put the twin needle in a case I have for my universal twin needle. No damage to the needle itself, just the case. Might have happened during shipment? Not too sure. Can't wait to topstitch my knit garments I've made recently!

4 stars only because I wish the were connected with metal or a sturdier plastic. They work great though and I will continue buying these.

The Schmetz Twin stretch needles in this case size 4.0/75 are great for the fabric I work with. And they are essential for stretch sweats when they need retouching.

I often shop online...But seldom do I have a wish to praise a vendor. In most cases the vendors are great on Amazon but in some cases they are outstanding and this was the case. An error had been made and the vendor rectified it immediatly (saving money and aggravation for both of us) without any attempt at justification. So I strongly recommend "Sewingmachinesplus.com"

Was being as gentile as I could be. First time I have had a needle break on me like this. I didn't even get to sew with it. Put it on the machine, threaded it, and it broke while I was manually testing out settings by slowly turning the dial with my hand. Not sure where the missing peice of the needle went. Hopefully not lodged in my machine somewhere. Quality could be better.
