This XPS 13 has a beautiful design of understated elegance and functions exactly as promised. The processor is lightning fast, the speakers strong, the battery goes for hours and I'm barely aware of it in my backpack.
My two minuses: I hardly Skype so the awkward camera placement is no big issue. And the stiff hinges make it harder to open than it ought to be.
Otherwise, after 5 months of daily, heavy use I've had zero glitches. And I don't even mind the people who regularly approach me with, "What IS that?" or "That looks like a great computer" or (my favorite) "Tell me about your cool laptop"......and I do!
Its quite light, and perfect for basic work related stuff like using MS Office, browsing, etc.
Had to return this machine because it randomly restarts. Sometimes under sone load, other times when it'd under near 0 load. Tried updating the bios at the discretion of Dell which was supposed to fix it, but same problems occurring. Doesn't have to do with heat or anything it seems.
It's a shame - really nicely packed machine otherwise. If they guaranteed that they could fix this random restart issue I'd have kept the machine or would definitely buy another. Can't afford to have it randomly crash in the midst of work though and not going to keep it past 30 days and roll the dice to see if it eventually gets fixed on a $1000 dollar machine.
For what its worth - seller seemed excellent, price was right, system specs were exactly what was promised.
I have used a XPS13 for three years and found it really light and fast. The old laptop is stuck with softwares so I decided to buy a new one. The quality (screen resolution, touchpad) is as expected and the battery life is killer. Don't hesitate to buy this one as the new generation has the same processor and rates at a much higher price.
Well, it came with all that and more. Not even two days after it arrived, I noticed it didn't close evenly due to a slight bulge centered below the Z key. As it turns out, the battery was swollen, and for those of you who don't know how serious that is, that means the battery could explode if charged, similar to the Galaxy S7 phones a few years back. Nowhere was this mentioned. Not on the Amazon listing, on the packaging it came in, nothing. Now I have to buy a $40 battery to replace it, and that's $40 I could've used to buy a better laptop that actually came as advertised.
It's a shame that this battery situation is putting such a damper on this purchase for me, because other than that, the laptop is fine. It's not lightning fast or anything, but it certainly does what I need it to (mostly audio and video editing, along with very light gaming). It's very portable, the screen looks great, the thunderbolt port is a nice addition... I just wished it actually came as advertised, because I can't help but feel like the battery is why this laptop was given up for resale.
