Amazing Lens - Great Bokeh - I love it
So, I wanted to have a macro in my bag and I've used Rokinon before (wide angle) on Canon. I saw the reviews on this and decided to purchase. I took it out of the box yesterday at about 5 pm, slapped it on my Sony a7Riii and went hunting for subjects. It was amazing right away. I shot a picture of my cat (of course he was moving around) and thought... WHOA.... that's fun! So I took a walk around town and just shot what I saw. I was absolutely amazed. You can clearly see the DoF in the eyesight when you adjust the aperture ring. Makes it super easy to get that look you're after. In just a couple hours I got the shots I've included in this review (with minor color alterations in Photoshop). The lens itself is a little heavy, but I like that, because I shoot 99% of the time handheld. All those shots are handheld, so they might be a little soft. The focus ring is easy to use (it's pretty wide) and very smooth. The build of the lens seems solid and I have no complaints. I'm planning on using it for portrait photography as soon as I can because I think it will give nice bokeh for those shots as well. The lens came with a bag and lens cap of course, and instruction manual that I just tossed aside. The only con (if you can call it that) is that it doesn't auto-focus, but I knew that when I bought it. Other than that minor thing, I love the lens so far. I can't wait to try it on a human subject. My overall first impression was that it's amazing and would make a great addition to anyone's lens arsenal.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a superlative macro lens.
Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2017
I love the quality of this lens. I also love the fact that it is manual focus. I learned photography on manual focus lenses and I have always had a hard time with auto focus. I love the sharpness of this lens. I love the bokeh. I have not had any problems with the hood. 100mm works for 1:1 in that the distance it affords from the subject helps. My cat would not have let me get this close to her face with a 60mm lens. The spoon is a quarter teaspoon at about a 1:1 ratio. The last photo is a clamp that closes a tea canister. It is about an inch long.

In my opinion Rokinon is the first lens where I have felt that the glass was as good as Nikon's. Moreover, the lack of an auto focusing motor makes for a lighter lens.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too hard to use with a Canon 60D mark2
Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2021
The description in the product review at the Rokinon/Samyang site makes the lens sound like it's easy to use. The truth is, there is a wide range of exposure quality simply moving from one f-stop to the next. The image looks ok on the camera's photo viewer until you download it. I'm going to either sell it or run over it with my truck if I can't get rid of it. I just purchased the Canon 100mm 2.8 from Amazon at nearly triple the price, but it's worth dumping the frustration. Addendum. My Canon 100m f2.8 arrived yesterday in record time (thanks Amazon). I immediately started taking pics. The difference is incredible. No guesswork with the Canon lens...right the first time.
