Publisher's summary

The scum hiding deep inside the Reach out along galaxy's edge thought they could kill her and not pay the price. For years these hardened killers have run roughshod over the lawless worlds where Republic justice is never as fast as the blaster in your hand and where double-crosses and death are a part of every deal. They thought this time would be no different.

They were wrong.

This time, the Guild sent the legendary bounty hunter Tyrus Rechs.

As the infamous Rechs pursues the men who murdered his colleague, he's hell-bent on justice, heedless of the trail of destruction he leaves across ruined worlds and fantastic gambling meccas alike. Because for Rechs, this isn't just another Guild contract...it's personal.

excellent book

though the reader was kind of up and down. sometimes he read perfectly other times it was just mediocre. the story on the other hand was superb. it whisked me away in the galaxy traveling experience I've come to expect from these authors, and what the review led me to expect. though if you haven't read/listened to the whole galaxys edge series there might be a few parts that will leave you wondering what is going on. personally I think the story could stand alone, but would recommend the whole series first.

Fun story!

This is worth the listen if you enjoyed following Tyrus in the main storyline. It is a standalone but fills in some really interesting details of his past life. Ray brings his A game and does the book justice. Very enjoyable.

at times cheesey but overall moving

it surprised me towards the end. it had the standard cheesey nature of the series but really truly ended beautifully!

Lots of action, for sure

I liked this book. I prefer lots of action and it didn't disappoint. Good storyline and, as usual for Ray Porter, great narration.

Great Story and the virus connect hits home!!

I really like this book a lot, for several reasons. It is a typical shoot em up, which is okey, and a bit derivative, which is to be expected. We apparently have standard names now for robots that are letter/number/letter/number --R2D2 -- but having one called Fancypants made me very happy. We revisit the Hunger Games, but with a few new twists, and that was okay as well.

The virus that infects anyone who comes in contact hits particularly hard, as I am home with a mild case of COVID, isolated and out of touch, literally, with those I love. The longing of Medusa to be free, able to sail away, feels very real to me. It is an idea that resonates with all the politics around COVID, maintaining distance, wearing a mask, washing hands, etc,, which begins to feel very mechanical and robotic.

I downgraded the narration, only because I heard something very different. I was surprised at the difference between the dialog and the rest of the story. In my experience, normally the narration of the story is smoother and some readers have a problem with dialog. But Ray Porter does a terrific job of dialog, extremely clear characters that have great emotions, great expression, great development. The story narration feels flat to me, repeating tech talk that is opaque jargon. Not his fault. I think it must be very hard to write about something that doesn't exist and make it sound logical and rational. Ergo, jargon. I am looking forward to more of this series. I like it a lot!!

Death Game = Fortnite???

I think Nick Cole or Jason Anspach are Fortnite players as The Death Game is VERY similar to the popular game. That aside, the story was excellent, the narration was excellent, and this is an excellent addition to the Galaxy's Edge Universe of stories. I highly recommend this book. Well worth a credit.

Why is Bridget in my Galaxy's Edge novel?

The narrator was wonderful in the Bobiverse, but he seems to have one female voice, and since I already identified the spunky Irish lass voice as Bobiverse's Bridget, the ruthless dark fated assassin with the exact same voice is a little off putting.
