However, the product assembled quickly and has performed like a champ -- so far I've cut ~10-15 cuts in 1/2" granite; I've gotten the technique down to cutting a 12" tile in about a minute. The lowest-quality part is the blade guard/feed guide; the blade guard support is oddly almost the same width as the blade, so if it's not perfectly lined up you'll have to push pretty hard once a 12" granite tile is halfway through as it's rubbing on the guide (no matter how hard you try to line it up).
However, if you just back the tile out carefully (carefully push along back side from two corners of tile), flip it over and start cutting from the other side it glides through the first half no problem. You may get a small dimple of material where the two cuts meet; you can just grind it gently on the side of the diamond blade. This wouldn't be a problem for smaller stocks of tiles. Also -- I used the stock diamond blade with no chipping of the edges (or very small), you'd probably get even better results with a higher quality blade.
I didn't even have to take my time, it cut plenty fast (before I was using a CNC to cut it, and using a tungsten carbide blade in a water bath was still painfully slow in comparison). Just make sure you line the guide up perfectly or use your own jig... will update after I finish up the product if there are any problems. Have yet to try the miter or angled cuts; that's for the next BBQ project.
Bottom line: Even if this only lasted one project (which I have little doubt it'll last a lot more), it's cheaper than renting at HD, and you can't beat the price with a blade...just expect what you pay for, a merger of plastic and metal.
My initial impressions were good. The saw is relatively light, and the tabletop's metal is a touch thin, but everything was square and looked good. The table extension works well. The fence is plastic, but worked much better than the cheap metal fence on the saw I'd used previously.
I'd purchased a separate diamond blade to use, assuming that the blade that comes with the tool is cheap and not worth using. Unfortunately, that blade did not fit this saw (note: "turbo" blades do not fit, even if they say they are 7 inches. The turbo blade I purchased actually measured a fraction larger than 7 inches and did not fit the saw at all) so I ended up using the supplied blade. Happily, it was of higher quality than I'd expected. The saw cut through the stone with no issues, working smoothly.
Of course, at this price point, you don't get perfection. I felt like the fence was a little tricky to get parallel to the blade (though again, not as bad as the other saw I've used) and it would have been nice if the table extension could be locked in place (occasionally I put the fence on the extension for a wider cut, and if not careful I found I would slowly slide the extension out as I was cutting). However, for what I used it for (one good intense day of work) it was perfect, and the cost was the same as I'd have paid to rent a saw for the day from the local big box store. I'm very pleased with this purchase.
The 45 and 22 degree attachment glides along the fence smoothly and works like a charm, although the tile does have a tendency to "ride" up. The 45 degree bevel is a nice feature and realy comes in handy for corners. However, there are a couple of things to keep in mind: The fence on this machine flat out sucks - it is plastic and quite a chore to move in for the "kill" shot - precision is out the window, so if you are going for Better Homes and Gardens, you need to spend some more money.
Had they made the fence out of aluminum and made the ride a bit smoother and more precise, this puppy would be a 5 star gem, hands down. This is absolutely not a cutter for a beginner - - it requires eyeballing cuts and if you are not familiar with tile, your results could be disastrous.
For the money and convenience(especially the 45 degree bevel), I give it 5 stars...For the angle attachment, I give it 5 stars...For the horrendous fence, I give it 2 stars...Overall, I like it and give 4 stars.
I am tiling the walls of a 32" x 60" shower using massive 12" x 24" Italian porcelain tiles so one might think that the cuts would be a challenge for a small saw. Not so. The table extension not only supports long tiles but it accepts mounting of the fence. I have turned out cuts from 2 to 21 inches with absolutely no problem. All it takes for the big cuts is shifting the fence to the extension and measuring from the opposite side of the blade.
Cutting operation is smooth and without issues. While this saw is not going to satisfy a tile professional, it is perfect for DIY projects. And I fully expect to clean the saw to near new condition and sell it used for half the price I paid.
