Publisher's summary

From USA Today best-selling author Devney Perry writing as Willa Nash comes a small town Montana romance.

Duke Evans didn’t expect to find a beautiful woman in a staring contest with a bison on his favorite hiking trail. He also didn’t expect to see her again after rescuing her from the surly beast. As the sheriff in Calamity, Montana, he’s had his fair share of surprises but none as pleasant as pulling over a shiny black car and finding his mysterious hiking companion behind the wheel.

Only she lied to Duke. She gave him a name as fake as her hair color. According to her driver’s license, her real name is Lucy Ross, the famous country music singer whose sudden disappearance has been a hot topic on the radio over the past two weeks.

He’s not sure why Lucy lied about her identity or why she’s in Calamity. And she’s not talking. Instead, she offers him a bribe to keep her secret.

Duke doesn’t want her money. He wants to know why this beautiful woman is on the run. And as long as the star shines on his badge, he’s going to find out.

Great start to a smalltown series!

The Bribe is the first book in the Calamity Montana series and this one was a great intro to the small town series. This is a country singer coming to the small town to hide out and her romance with the town’s sheriff.

Duke first meets Lucy when she’s out for a hike on one of his favorite hiking trails and she’s staring down a bison. When they exchange names she gives him a fake one. She’s actually a famous country singer who has just come to escape Nashville and her fame and hide out in Calamity for a while. They end up meeting again when she’s speeding through town and he pulls her over, while Lucy hopes he doesn’t notice from her I.D. that she gave him a fake name before, he most definitely does notice. And then the next thing she says is offering him a bribe to keep her identity secret while she’s in town!

This was a great start to the series. Devney Perry books always work for me and I loved seeing this new town of Calamity and all the characters there. Duke and Lucy’s relationship comes together very quickly but they were super cute together so I didn’t mind too much. I really liked seeing his close relationship with his ex’s son too. There is a stalker and a bit of suspense happening towards the end. Great audio! Can’t wait to continue the series!

The Bribe: Calamity Montana Book 1

🎧🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧🎧

PERFORMANCE REVIEW & RATING: 5 STARS

Ava Erickson & Jason Clarke have very rarely disappointed, and they didn’t this time! Loved their narration! Well done!

STORY REVIEW & RATING: 4.5 STARS

I really enjoy how Devney Perry writing as Willa Nash always has a mysterious air to her stories that never overshadow the romance journey. This story in particular sticks out with this point because of the extreme nature of the mystery plot-point. It’s been a couple of years since this story published so I feel okay about just saying what needs to be said and not be afraid of spoilers so … Lucy’s stalker wasn’t just an annoyance she was trying to ghost. The stalker was legit dangerous but instead of dragging that danger into the journey in Calamity, Devney made a choice to focus on the romance and have the ‘stalker’ be a plot-point that was being told to us and not really living it present day. Make sense? Until the end, of course, when it all came to a head.

I dunno, but I really liked this choice because it allowed me as the reader to focus on Lucy and Duke in the now and how they grew their relationship and how Lucy was becoming a part of the community. The ‘drama’ didn’t get in the way of building the romance. HUGE PLUS!

Also, even though this is a ‘small-town’ setting, Devney didn’t throw in all the typical shenanigans of small-town living into the mix. It would have been really easy because of who Lucy was to throw in all the busybody, in your face, everyone knows everything shenanigans in the mix of Lucy’s journey, but that would have ruined the space that Lucy & Duke needed to grow their relationship, etc etc etc.

I really loved this story and I’m about to dive into the next book because I’m incapable of just reading one book without binging LOL if they’re already published, and I feel good about this series!

Absolutely perfection!!!

This book blew me away! I loved everything about this story and characters. Devney/Willa knows how to write a romance. The chemistry and passion between Duke and Lucy was top tier. The protectiveness of Duke was just incredible. I loved their story and I can’t wait to read more about the characters in Calamity!!

The narration was also amazing and both voice actors did an amazing job!! 10/10 recommend!!
