From former Green Beret and USA Today best-selling author Jason Kasper

"Jason Kasper is a name to watch in the thriller world." (Mark Greaney, number one New York Times best-selling author of the Gray Man series)

When American citizens in Nigeria are kidnapped and held for ransom, David Rivers and his team of CIA contractors find themselves enveloped in an international firestorm. With a US administration determined to protect American lives, David has the authority to do whatever it takes.

But as David’s team tracks down the mysterious terror cell responsible for the kidnapping, they uncover a conspiracy beyond anything they could have imagined.

And in a race against time to recover the hostages, David and his team must infiltrate the Sambisa Forest, a sprawling Boko Haram stronghold overflowing with enemy soldiers.

Failure is not an option.

Survival is not guaranteed.

I thought the latest David Rivers thriller had a strange cover until Jason Kasper took me on a journey to a new country and explained the famous Zuma Rock in Nigeria. Each of the various locations in these books is described in detail, building an awareness in the reader of not only the inherent dangers, but also the beauty of the surroundings. I admit to knowing very little about this African country until embarking on a new adventure with David, Worthy, Cancer, Doc, and Ian.

Each member of the Shadow Strike team has a distinct, and oddly endearing, personality. Jason somehow imbues each with their own unique “voice” that always rings true.

Their penchant for “mission creep”, although irksome to some of the team, continues in this story and leads to some very exciting situations. As Doc (Reilly) muses, “David had an uncanny ability to push things too far, never wavering in his desire to ensure that no matter how bad a situation got, he could find a way to make it worse.”

Ian can always be counted on to think on his feet, applying his knowledge of languages to solve problems, and his background has helped extricate the team from many a predicament. Worthy and Cancer have their own skillsets, and as team leader David utilizes them masterfully.

Having read all of Jason’s books, I must admit that my heart flutters every time I read one particular sentence, “Raptor Nine One, this is Suicide Actual”!

What a great series, and though I repeat myself, it is very true: “This is the best one yet!”

Jason Kasper is a great writer. His stories are so thrilling and riveting. This is the first series I’ve ever read by him, and I can’t put these books down. I’m eager to find out how it ends for David and his team.

Not much for all the descriptions.
I like action not conversations.
Good proofreading. Storyline gets convoluted at times.
Sometimes too much description to follow.

I've read every David Rivers book by Jason Kasper. They are all excellent if you enjoy novels about "off the record", adrenaline packed covert "target killing " of really bad guys supported from afar by very clever tech.

This latest offering is set in Nigeria, chasing down a cunning Boko Harum terrorist leader, and is slightly different as mission creep sets in after the kidnapping of US nationals having Rivers, comms handle " Suicide", and his team chasing all over Nigeria intel gathering as a clever international cocaine operation financing the terrorists and more is by chance uncovered.

Action packed and bloody, the trademark of the series, with the morality of what the team does somewhat called in to question and even if it is ok is it but a drop in the ocean of bad guys because as one falls, another will always arise.

Really enjoyed it!

There were heart stopping moments when I feared David and the gang would not survive this mission. Corruption was around very corner, who could they trust? Is this the end of their covert adventures.?? A must read.

A lot of action and decent story line - the good guys always win - sometimes unbelievably lucky to escape unscathed - they must be good.
