About this item
- KEY BENEFITS: - Fully automate pet’s feeding; control portions to prevent or reverse pet obesity; eliminate food stealing and chaos at mealtimes; save money by not overfeeding; avoid expensive vet bills related to health issues associated with overweight/obese pets and truly manage a pet on a prescription diet. (Note: One feeder per pet recommended for proper daily meal portioning.)
- PORTION CONTROL: Keep your pets healthier by feeding correct portions to keep your pet at a healthy weight. Each feeder can be customized to measure and serve the proper portions for the assigned pet.
- ACCESS CONTROL: Patented RFID Collar Tag system controls access to the food for an assigned pet within multi-pet households. The Patented Tag Technology (PFC) is recognized by the feeder at approximately 2 feet. Our tags have a longer range and more accurate recognition than microchips. (*Our feeder does not work with standard microchips*) (Each pet should wear a collar tag for access control. If you purchase fewer feeders than pets in the home, we recommend purchasing additional tags to ensure proper access control.)
- Our NEW tag design incorporates an easily replaceable battery as well as a NEW Zip-Tie collar mount! Substantially improved water-resistance, via a new silicone O-ring seal and enclosure sealing. The RFID tag dimensions are approximately 4.6 x 3.4 x 1.4 cm. The weight of the tag is approximately 0.65 oz. (Our feeder only works with our own tag.)
- We suggest, rather using than the D-ring on your pet’s collar, that you use our Zip-Tie option to affix the tag to the collar. (This keeps the tag up and out of water bowls, and it is a more secure and convenient method of mounting the tag)
- The food bin holds 32 cups of DRY kibble and can portion out feeding of as little as 1/2 cup/day and all the way up to 6 cups/day, the feeder automatically divides the daily amount into 2, 4, or 6 meals per day for cats and 2 or 3 meals per day for dogs. The total daily food amount can be set in 1⁄8-cup increments up from 1/2 cup to 3 cups and in ¼-cup increments from 3 cups to 6 cups.
- The PortionProRx is designed to be used with non-irregular shaped dry food. Recommended kibble size 5/8" or less for optimal meal accuracy.
- WHAT’S INCLUDED? 1 PortionProRx Feeder, 1 RFID Tag with replaceable battery, Power Supply, Food Bin and Lid, Ceramic Food Bowl and Food Belt. (Additional tags can be purchased separately)

Programmed it that the first cat can eat out of both feeders while my meatball can only eat her food.
First impressions:
-Unit seems well sealed. Definitively will keep out mice. Verdict is still out to set if ants can get in since there's an oval hole below the food bowl. Might have to tape that shut.
-Tags for collars are huge. Use zip ties and a good cat collar that doesn't unclasp easily. I'd suggest using the old-style cat collar that uses a rubber band part to stretch instead of the break-away clasps.
-Food door is really loud when it opens/ closes. Takes cats some getting used to, even in 'open' mode. Will definitively wake you up if in bedroom. Conveyer that dispenses food is quiet.
-Range for tag seems reasonable. No chance of door closing while cat is close enough to eat.
-Love the ceramic bowl.
-Wish the alarm when there is an error code was louder. Very weak beep, and it's easy to miss a malfunction.
-Very easy to set up and program/ change settings.
-Took 2 days to change from 'open' door mode to 'closed'. Cats still get skiddish when the door opens loudly when they are in range, but they are eating once they are sure nothing else is moving.
Will update again after I've used them some time.
pros:
-has stopped my fat cat from begging 24/7
-if you unplug it and plug it back in hours later it still seems to be mostly the correct time
-durable (my big boy hasn’t been able to open the door to my other cats feeders.)
cons:
-easy for cats to reach up into the feeder and pull kibble out. when i tested it myself the door to the feeder would close, maybe because my hand is larger than their paws are, but my other cat sits around all day sticking his paw up into the tank and pulling out kibble and looking smug about it. it kind of eliminates the purpose of having it. he’s not the fatty of my cats, but if he has free access to all his food all the time he will be.
-pairing the tags with multiple cats is frustrating and not user friendly. it’s difficult to tell which is paired, and the layout of the screen is difficult to navigate even after reading the manual.
-the tags have to be within three feet of the feeder for you to open the door manually or dispense food.
-this is one of my biggest gripes with it, but the door mechanism is SO LOUD. i do recording during the day and i can hear it in the background of my recordings in a whole other room. it sometimes goes off at night too randomly.
-i tried to make my cats have separate feeders but now it’s paired so that they can access whichever. it was so unnecessarily hard the first time i paired their chips that i’ve left it that way.
-the screen is bright blue. the light for the button is also bright blue and stays on constantly. this may not be an issue for others, but if you can’t sleep with a lot of light, this will bug you.
-i already reviewed the chip separately, but the chip tag for the collar is indeed massive and ugly. it’s annoying to take apart, and it’s annoying to put together. none of the batteries are in them when they arrive so you have to individually unscrew a bunch of teeny tiny screws and screw them back together as many times as you have tags. there are two screws on each and by the time i unscrewed and rescrewed them back together they were nearly all the way stripped. the tiny screw driver is not included btw.
in summary: wouldn’t recommend unless you need a tank and a chip/have food stealing cats. these have potential but are ungodly overpriced for how far they have to go still. they’re huge, loud, and have a unflattering design. if you have clever cats they will figure out how to pull kibble from the tanks. the noise is awful.
