Flush-mount design not practical, get one with an integral extension cable
I bought this for use with a new 4th gen iPad Air and really wanted to love it. But the cool low-profile flush-mount design just isn't practical. Maybe OK for a laptop, but not for a tablet. It can't be used if your iPad is in a case or cover; you'll either need to take the cover off or do something clever to it with an Xacto knife. And once it's plugged in, the connection isn't secure; the smallest jostle will dislodge it. The device came with a handy-looking extender grip, attachable by means of some frighteningly tiny screws ( kudos to the manufacturer for including a tiny screw driver and extra screws), which would have solved the problem ... except that it immediately broke. (See photo, far right. The connector tongue came loose and stayed behind in the iPad the first time I tried it.) If I can get a replacement extension piece I may give the thing another chance; it seemed otherwise to be well made and to perform as advertised; but sheesh. My advice? If you are getting this for an iPad, don't bother with the flush-mount model, get the one with the integral extension cable.

So far so good for 2021 (M1) iPad Pro 12.9 with a magic keyboard - When I first plugged it in, it did not turn on - I took out the existing grip and replaced it with the additional grip they provided - it looked slightly larger than the default one that was attached and voila it connected (blue light turned on). I haven’t done a lot of testing, but was able to connect a Blue Yeti microphone and a MicroSD successfully. Will come back with additional updates after some more testing.
