Platonic Rulebook (Divorced Men's Club 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 3,553 ratings

Griff:

Walking away from my marriage was my idea of a fresh start.

My kid is in college, my ex-wife and I are on good terms … but being single in my forties is a world different to being single in my teens.

I’m thankful for my best friend, Heath. He’s got my back like he always does and is ready to take me out and show me how the bachelor life is done.

He was never supposed to show me
literally.

After we wake up in bed together, I can’t stop looking at him differently, and one thing becomes abundantly clear.

I talk a big talk about wanting to be single, but my platonic rule book has gone out the window.

Heath:

When my best friend comes to me for help post-divorce, I’m only too happy to impart my wisdom to him.

After all, Griffin isn’t my type, but even I can tell he’s a complete lumber
snack. Good with his hands, kind eyes, and a killer smile. All the guys and gals are gonna eat him alive.

But the more time we spend together, the less “not my type” he becomes.
I’m the one who can’t get enough of him.

Neither of us is interested in a relationship, so what’s a little fun between friends?

We both know the score.

Platonic Rulebook is the ultimate best-friends-to-lovers story without all the usual 'one of them pined for the other his whole life' trope. This series, the Divorced Men's Club follows men getting their next chance in love after a divorce and in this second book we get to see Griff find his feet after divorcing the mom of his kid after a mutual understanding that they don't fit anymore. The story is sweet and simple. Griff is divorced and wants to jump into bachelor life after only being with his wife his whole life. He's also excited to discover what it means to be bi. Clubs and hookups await. Or at least that's what he thinks he wants while almost everyone is convinced he's a serial monogamist and will marry the next person he's with.In his journey to live his true self again his best friend, Heath is by his side. They've been best buds since forever and it's obvious Heath'll be Griff's wingman. But they discover an attraction between them they never felt before. To complicate things, Griff has an 18 year old kid just out to college who doesn't know his parents seperated, Poppy, his wife doesn't know Heath and Griff might want more and on top of it all they need to run a resort while one of the partners is stepping down. Not an easy situation!I loved the dynamic between Heath and Griff! Their frindship was so storng and shining from the beginning that it came out absolutely natural they moved to the next level even with all the doubts and secrets.I loved the setting at the little resort and how Griff felt out of place in the office but still trying, and how Heath made everything work becasue Griff's been his person all his life.Obviously, I loved the DMC groupchat and all the other men supporting and shamelessly making fun of each other. Art, Orson and Payne all pushing Griff in the right direction. Just like they did with Payne in the first book, Roommate Arrangment! The book was steamy.... like really steamy. But we love that here! And it did not overshadow the characters and their story, just added a little spice to it!All in all, it was a bit more angsty than I'm used to from the author, but still very sweet and enjoyable! The HEA is guranteed and I absolutely loved the epilouge.I can't wait to see who from the DMC gets their story next!

I truly love their story and can’t wait to see what is in store for the other men of DMC

I’ve read a few friends to lovers lately where the MCs are so close, and so devoted to each other before they get together that to the reader it’s pretty clear they’re basically already in love with each other before they recognize themselves, but those have been new adult novels, where the friends are college age. This is the first one where they guys are adults, but all the elements that I enjoy in this type of trope are there—the devotion and deep connection, the willingness to put the other’s best interests ahead of their own.

One thing that makes Griff and Heath’s story different from the one’s I’ve read is that before this book starts, neither man has been secretly in love with his friend. There was no prior pining here. And both men are out, at least to each other.

They’ve been best friends since at least high school. But Griff wasn’t really Heath’s type, and Griff was happily married, so they didn’t look at each other as love interests at all. Heath is still single though in part because he knew Griff was basically his soul mate (a platonic soul mate)—so he wasn’t looking for a partner, just a good time.

However, once Griff and his wife decide to divorce, and Griff is feeling the need to get back out there and date and finally experience the full spectrum of his sexuality, something shifts for Heath and he starts noticing Griff in a new way. And basically the same for Griff. They start flirting, and then . . .

They are really cute and sweet together—they’re funny and give each other a hard time, and flirt outrageously. One thing that seems to happen more often in these best friends to lovers books is that there’s a greater willingness in the characters to be honest with each other about their feelings. There's very little conflict due to lack of communication. I really like that. They may still decide they can’t be together for reasons, but it’s not because of misunderstandings.

I read James’s Dating Disaster before this one, and it stars Griff’s son Felix. It was fun to read this and get to see Felix again—even if it was before the events of the other book. And I enjoyed Griff and Heath in that book, which is why I sought out there story here.

The other issues Heath and Griff had to deal with were handled well—I like how they resolved those issues. I was glad Heath never made Griff feel bad for not being good at computer work, but saw their different strengths as complimentary.
I definitely recommend this book if you like steamy, mm, best friends to lovers romance.

Oh, Lordy, Lordy, Looooordy! Griff and Heath are absolute #BestieCoupleGoals. The friends-to-lovers trope is one of my favorites in the romance genre, and this author knew how to add her own creative spin to things in order to make Griff and Heath's story one that was both entertaining and endearing. This had a bit of a slow burn feel to it, which I think made it work even better because there isn't that whiplash feeling of them going from best friends to hooking up after just a chapter or two. I love the dynamic they shared and how there wasn't even a doubt in their minds that they had each other's backs. Now admittedly, there may have been some hesitation in their hearts when it came to crossing that line between platonic and passionate and romantic, but I think that's to be expected, and pretending otherwise would have probably given me pause, and not in a good way. There was so much to love and adore about Griff and Heath and the other guys in the Divorced Men's Club. Oh, and let's not forget Felix, but then Saxon James has what sounds like delicious plans for him. As for Platonic Rulebook, well, that easily gets five stars, and I cannot wait for the other DMC stories!

The first book in this series was really good and that's what brought me back. That said, I did not like this book much at all. Heath was the only character I cared about because he was at least honest and tried to do his best while being pulled in so many directions. Also, I didn't read all of the reviews but of those I read, not one person pointed out what bad parents Griff and Poppy were. The author is, obviously, not a parent. Children, especially those old enough to understand the adult world like Felix need and deserve to be told the truth by their parents, soon enough to process. Even younger children understand a lot more than people give them credit for. Poppy and Griff lied continuously to their son about so much and lies of omission are still lies. My husband's parents did the same thing to him, waited until he went into the Navy, then divorced. He didn't know anything about it until he came home and he was devastated. Poppy came across in this book as a control freak know-it-all that abandoned the business and automatically expected Heath to take care of Griff and the business without giving Heath the authority to do so or even asking him to and Griff had absolutely no confidence and sort of lived in a fog. One reviewer seemed to have a low opinion of Felix but I think he had every reason in the world to act like he did; 18 years old, away from home for the first time, devastating discovery about himself and being lied to by his parents. What a mess this book was. The only thing I liked was the happy ending and the terrific cover. One of the reviewers seemed to think the next book, Budding Attraction, is about Felix. I hope not, he's just a baby gay and needs more time. Give Art his book first.

Best friends. One of them is getting a divorce and the other is supportive. They both love each other but they believe it’s platonic. It’s really sweet when both of them say they don’t want a relationship but end up being together more. They soon find out that they can’t be without each other, not only as friends but more. Both want more! Even through all their worries they decide it’s each other for them.

Always a huge fan of this author, and I'd first read this one on KU, but needed to buy it for a read whenever I want later. So much fun, so much genuine feeling and emotion between the best friend MCs. I loved the growth and the way they talked to each other, instead of shutting each other out - for the most part, gotta have that conflict. ;-) Loved, and as always, can't wait for more from this author.

I've read this one in a sitting (well, I had to sleep at some point at night but...). I'm loving this divorced guys club. This story was beautiful and the transition from friends to lovers was well developed I think. Can't wait to read the rest of the stories!

Waaah this was cute. For starters I’m obsessed with the little DMC friendship group!! Art gets me in the group texts every time! The friendship between griff and heath was lovely, like they adored each other, my heart hurt for griff and seeing him starting over from the divorce, but it was so nice to see how much heath was there for him. It was nice that the divorce didn’t bring drama between them, the issues were solved quite easily at the end which I liked. I’m excited to read more in this series.

This woman has d!ck jokes down to a fine art and they always make me laugh out loud. The antics that her characters get up to but the love that they find has me enjoying every minute of these books. I love a good best friends to lovers story. I love the side line characters and the anticipation for who could possibly be next.
If you love romcoms, want to try or already love MM romance, then I highly recommend Saxon James’ books.
