Better than the Go Plus
5 Stars
Better than the Go Plus
I owned a Go Plus prior to the Go-tcha which is why I’ve rated it 5 stars instead of 4 as there are some minor issues but affect both devices. The issues with both devices are a result of the game design and not the devices. When I first purchased the Go Plus, it was great. It allowed me to spin Pokestops at a modest speed (25-30mph) as well as catch Pokémon by the press of a button. However, updates since then have reduced this almost to less than 10mph. It’s the same on the Go Plus & Got-cha. More often than not, the game freezes if I slow down so I don’t get the spin anyway. Also, on both devices, you are often catching Pokémon that do not display on your phones screen. This is obvious both walking and when I have my phone mounted on my dashboard. The pro to this thoufh is that it seems I catch more Pokémon this way, as if they were always there but their avatar not visible to catch manually. The con is that if you want to manually catch certain Pokémon, whether it be to give a Razz Pinap or be able to throw additional (or higher tiered) poke balls to increase your chances of a catch/gain more candies, you can’t see the Pokémon to even know if they’re around. I will typically disconnect my device if I see a Pokémon I want to manually catch on my nearby list before approaching the location as a work around. And while I believe this is no fault of the devices themselves, it’s annoying that neither can use great or ultra balls when you’ve run out of regular poke balls. Additionally, neither are great at alerting you by the vibrations that you’re out and it usually takes me thinking the last 10 Pokémon fled and being annoyed before I even check. When I lost my Go Plus, I decided to this time spend the extra $6 for the Go-tcha for the added bonus of the auto catching and auto spinning of Pokestops. Maybe it’s just me but when I drive, I can’t always pay attention to the vibrations and would often press the button at the wrong times (since I can’t keep turning my wrist to look) if I wasn’t paying close attention to the patterns. I also liked the upgrade to an LCD screen as well as being able to re-charge the device instead of replacing batteries (which to give the Go Plus some credit, wasn’t needed that often). I heard you could simply put a rubber band on the Go Plus to replicate the auto catch and auto spin but there is conflicting information on how often and on which devices this works on. Which leads me to my last point, the Go Plus looks child enough, the addition of a rubber band hack will just make it look worse. I’m a 34 year old mom and while I’m not embarrassed to play Pokémon Go, wearing a plastic pokeball around my wrist isn’t exactly flattering. Your only option is to use the clip feature or the wrist band. Even if you managed to replace the blue, red and white ugly band, making something to fit your wrist perfectly is much more work than a necklace AND, you’re still wearing a pokeball. The Go-tcha is more discrete and looks like a fitness tracker or some other vague wearable. I was also happy to see that silicon cases available for the Go-tcha that allowed me to wear it around my neck. I was even able to quickly make a nicer necklace for the case.

[Opinion] Excellent device, though pricey. If you want a better deal, purchased from the states because the exchange is better.

[Function] Catches Pokemon, activates pokemon stops, and also can be set to catch NEW pokemon automatically... with normal pokeballs.

[Personal Use] Personally, I only use this to activate the pokemon stops automatically so I don't have to frantically mash the pokemon go plus device while driving. It's distracted driving ==" and I really shouldn't be doing pokemon go things while driving > >.

[Additional information]
Charging cable is short, approx 3-4 inches or 10-12 cm.
To ensure a good fit, do rotate the device a bit and tap the circle to turn it on and check the charging status.
Poor visibility in sunlight, unavoidable.
Response time for activation of stops/pokemon is very fast. Subjectively appears faster than Pokemon Go Plus and has better chance activation when driving.
Battery is rated at 8-12 hours depending on intensity of use.

[Optional Suggestions]
Purchase an additional charger
Purchased replacement wristband (xiaomi mi band 1) though look into the design of the wristband as some are better than others, and worse than others. (Updated: Device is not compatible with the Xiaomi mi band 2 replacement bands).
Please download and read the manual!
Due to potential battery life issues, bring cable & battery pack along with charging cable. This is pokemon go, y'all should know the drill.
To improve battery life, disable vibration. (UPDATE: Apparently Disabling Vibration improves Battery life to up to 5 days)
