Upon getting it, I charged the battery and let it top off. After it was ready, I synced it to my game by going to settings and choose Pokemon Go Plus. I pressed the red button to activate the Go-tcha and saw it in the list at the bottom of the app. I tapped on it and it synced up. I then went back to the main screen and tapped on the Pokemone Go Plus icon on the top right hand side. It should say that its trying to connect. At that point I tapped on the Go-tcha and it turned on. They both synced together and the Pokemon Go Plus icon lit up. From there I went back to the Go-tcha and check marked pokestop, pokemon, sync only. I X'd new pokemon and vibrate. Pokemon Go app must be running and on the front screen or the watch won't work. Go-tcha will lose sync after an hour (its the app's timeout not the watch, happens to Go Plus users too).
I threw away all my red pokeballs to test if it will use the great or ultras but it does NOT work. It will only use red pokeballs so make sure you are well stocked. If you are at work and camping over a pokestop, this watch is great because it will auto grab the same stop when its available. I sat a 4 pokestop area and it kept grabbing them and pokemon that spawned. It does have a delay but its good so that you have a chance to catch the pokemon that pops and you know that the red ball isn't going to cut it. IE: if a Alakazam popped, I HIGHLY doubt a red pokeball would catch it. I would tap on it myself and try to catch it. In the interim of being in a fight, it will grab pokestops during the fights or raids which is also awesome. Also I suggest you max out your bag to 1500 so that you can pick up items without the worry of hitting the max. I also suggest you having at least 400 spaces for pokemon storage as you will be grabbing a lot of pokemon wherever you go.
This watch is great because it auto catches and auto grabs pokestops which is convenient for road warriors who is driving. Everyone who has the Pokemon Go Plus should get this if you hate tapping the button everytime it vibrates. This device can disable the vibrate and save the battery. I have been running my Go-tcha for over 4 days now and it still did not need a recharge. I leave it open and let it play for an hour and have to re-sync to the game. In that window, I got over 50 items from just idling at a stop. Of course my android phone I would have to turn on Stay Awake during charging and my screen will be left on indefinitely (Developer's Options menu). Happy hunting!
Pros:
- Allows me to catch Pokemon and get Pokestop items while driving and not fiddling with phone at all. (Or working, doing other stuff without paying attention to phone). SAFER
- PGO can run in background with screen locked and off (saves phone battery)
- Since it can run in background, it really helps in logging the distance traveled for hatching eggs and getting the 3 km candy for your Pokemon Buddy.
- Auto catch and auto spin function acts much faster than if done manually
- Rechargeable battery. I always charge it at end of the day.
- Wrist strap fits my humungous wrists...albeit on the very last hole. I was quite worried about this.
- Option to turn off auto spin or auto catch separately. Or catch only Pokemon you've never seen before. Like if you run out of red balls (it won't use any other type), then turn off auto catch and just keep auto spin on to refill your bag items. Btw, you hold down the red circle button to toggle between enabling and disabling a function....took me a couple days to figure that out.
- Vibrate function is helpful for notifications and detecting whether the Gotcha is still paired. Can turn off vibrate if you want though.
Cons:
- Gotcha disconnects after about 45-60 minutes. I've seen that the Go Plus does the same. Must reconnect/pair which is tricky and frustrating at times. If having trouble reconnecting, my best method is to unpair in the settings, force close the app, reopen and pair again. Takes a few minutes but almost always successful.
- Only throws red balls, and doesn't use the blue or yellow balls. If you run of out red balls, must restock to keep auto catching. Also, since red balls are weaker, chances of catching higher CP Pokemon are more slim. You still catch them sometimes but most of the time they run away.
- Stronger, more desired Pokemon might run away so should disable autocatch if you have time to walk and look at the screen. Then you can use various berries and higher grade balls.
- Prioritizes catching Pokemon sighted first, spins Poke Stops after. Just something to keep in mind.
- Should check the Gotcha screens periodically because sometimes it might randomly disable autocatching for some reason. It's overall a finnicky device but the pros outweigh the cons for me.
- Very minimal instructions and you basically have to go to their website or Google it to get whole explanation, which isn't much. Just nice to see what the signs mean.

[Function] Catches Pokemon, activates pokemon stops, and also can be set to catch NEW pokemon automatically... with normal pokeballs.
[Personal Use] Personally, I only use this to activate the pokemon stops automatically so I don't have to frantically mash the pokemon go plus device while driving. It's distracted driving ==" and I really shouldn't be doing pokemon go things while driving > >.
[Additional information]
Charging cable is short, approx 3-4 inches or 10-12 cm.
To ensure a good fit, do rotate the device a bit and tap the circle to turn it on and check the charging status.
Poor visibility in sunlight, unavoidable.
Response time for activation of stops/pokemon is very fast. Subjectively appears faster than Pokemon Go Plus and has better chance activation when driving.
Battery is rated at 8-12 hours depending on intensity of use.
[Optional Suggestions]
Purchase an additional charger
Purchased replacement wristband (xiaomi mi band 1) though look into the design of the wristband as some are better than others, and worse than others. (Updated: Device is not compatible with the Xiaomi mi band 2 replacement bands).
Please download and read the manual!
Due to potential battery life issues, bring cable & battery pack along with charging cable. This is pokemon go, y'all should know the drill.
To improve battery life, disable vibration. (UPDATE: Apparently Disabling Vibration improves Battery life to up to 5 days)

The Gotcha is amazing! The wristband might be stiff but after a hairdryer it should be all good! As for the design, it's nice but more color options are available should you find the default wristband unappealing.
Connectivity is great! The auto catch is amazing! I went to the theaters with a gym, and caught pokemon throughout! Got a few rare ones too! I've noticed the wristband notices Pokemon even if they don't appear on the screen! It even works for driving at low speeds or on the bus!
tl;dr Worth the buy, charge device, warm wristband with hairdryer, enjoy hands-free!
Definitely recommend! Will keep you guys updated on any issues that show up!
DAY 1: THE FIRST 24 HOURS
Alright I've only had it for 24 hours, but here are my personal findings. I charged it up fully before first use AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS. Setting up and syncing is straight forward.
CONNECTION:
I have had a few disconnects but by and large it stays connected fairly well. If you want to set it in your pocket, leave your phone locked and not pay attention milage may very. However, if I do this and go for a walk it certainly stays connected for the entire walk. Reconnecting means tapping the icon on the main screen and the button on the Go-Tcha <- this is not a hard thing to do so arguable disconnects are really not that bad unless you want to 'set it and forget it' entirely even then Ninantic has programmed a 1 hour limit. I mean you want to play the game right? So check in every now and again.
WRIST BAND:
The wrist band is garbage. It does hold firmly however I can totally see taking it in and out several times the hard rubber will loosen over time for sure. There is no way to charge it in the wrist band which is another huge downside... So depending on how often you play you will likely wear out the wrist band fairly quick and I expect on subsequent review updates I will be noting that. On top of all this... it's ugly, let's be real. I wear it anyways because who cares.
SETTINGS:
I have not had much luck getting the settings to work on the unit itself and translate to the Pokemon Go app. The vibrate setting on the unit when toggled works. However, the auto catch Pokemon and Pokemon not seen do not seem to translate to the iOS app. Even with a full quit process and rebooting the app. The toggles in Pokemon go DO WORK. So if you just want to spin pokestops, or only catch mon, you can toggle in app and it works. This could be a user issue for me as I have only had it one day. I will try some other tricks and see if I have improvement.
DUST FARMING:
This has easily added 3000-4000 extra daily dust plus candies without much work on my part and only doing a few walks a day. I imagine this could be very powerful on community days and such coupled with active playing. Certainly brings my love for the game back.
My Setup:
iPhone 13 PRO
iOS 15.1.1
Gotcha LCD Unit
App Version 3.0
Firmware Version 1.7
I will update this review on DAY 7 and DAY 30 and DAY 90.
More frequent issues with the gotcha connecting to smart phone once I did this firmware update. Unable to revert to previous firmware.
Update 01/15/18
After extensive research/testing. it appears that it is an issue with the Gotcha firmware update. I have 2 iOS devices, on the same iOS version. Both gotcha have been firmware updated. One iOS device has the newest game update, the other a previous release. I’m having the same issues with both Gotcha, even when interchanged between iOS devices. The only change that has been done, is the firmware update to the Gotcha (problems started after that). Following the manufacturers suggestions to correct problematic Gotcha issues have been unsuccessful. I submitted a support ticket yesterday, and am still waiting for support to contact me. I will continue to update here until the issue is resolved or refunded.
Update 01/18/18
I’m the only person within my group that has done the firmware update. Others have not done it, mainly because because of my warnings. There have been connection issues with the Gotcha in the past, for everyone I know, but not as severe as I’m experiencing with the new firmware. It will connect, roughly 1 in 5 attempts. To reconnect it’s even worse, even after ejecting, un pairing and resetting the iOS device. I’m not willing to provide my service ticket number as I’m not going to “jump que” over those who are in front of me. Will update, stay tuned.
Update 01/20/18
4 days in support que and finally heard from code junkies. Their idea, “have you made sure the Gotcha app is completely closed down?” When my support ticket clearly says the devices have been rest multiple times. Difficult for an app to stay running when the device has been hard booted. Updated to the newest game release, no change too Gotcha connection issues. Will update, stay tuned.
Update 01/23/18
I just received another response from “one of the developers”, funny thing is, it’s the exact msg I received days ago. Literally cut and past, accept for the date. Which leaves me to believe they have no idea what they are doing or how to address the firmware issues. Once again, asking for my support ticket number to “jump que”. Codejunkies have responded to my ticket, one time, days ago. Their response was well, I’d be embarrassed to have sent that message if I’m a developer of the Gotcha. I believe that code junkies is 1-2 people by the support and the cut and paste responses. It’s sad, paid good money and get zero support (I’ve had the Gotcha for just over 3 months, worked properly for just under 3). I just want a refund now. Wash my hand of this all. Going to contact the Amazon, and see what they say. Defective product with now support. Should be pulled from their website. Will update, stay tuned.
Update 02/12/18
Still no joy in getting the issue corrected. I’ve gone as far as factory reset my iOS devices (yes 2 iOS devices), take newest iOS update and the issue still continues (connection issues continued even on factory rest before iOS update). The issue is not the iOS device, it’s the firmware update on the Gotcha. Still have not revived any contact from the developer since mid Jan. 20 “have you made sure the Gotcha app is completely closed down” developers response. I caution all who are considering purchasing, Codejunkies does not support their products. Will update, stay tuned.
Update 03/09/18
Still no contact from code junkies on the connection issue, it been months. I still stand behind my previous posts that either they are incompetent or incapable. Don’t waste your money on products that the manufacturer does not warranty or support once they have your money. Will update, stay tuned.
