I read book 1 as a separate purchase, and posted a review for that book. I liked it but felt the book needed more character development. I have since read the entire series, 12 or 13 books, I do not remember now. More character development has come out gradually through the books, until book 5 was all about the characters past, present, and future. I felt like I really knew them then. Each book has a great mystery with lots of surprises and subplots.

The first day if school the new freshman class of witches get invited to join a murder investigation. This starts a friendship and bond that starts to be called the Witch Squad. It consists on five girls or young witches just learning their powers and how to handle them. There is Mercy, the leader, who can see and talk to ghosts. Jax, pixy, not sure of her powers yet,but have to be something. Holly, sexpot, but she has visions. Sweets, voluptuous, but like to do potions, and cook and eat, and eat.then their is Alba the strength in the group. She does telekineses, and mind reading, and fire,and is learning other things. In fact they are all learning things very fast. They keep running into murders and solving them. And getting closer to each other and learning about each other and their families. Mercy has family that runs throughout the series and involves all the girls in the stories. Great reads. Well written. Murders, dating, and feuds keeps you interested from first page till last and although each is stand alone the stories also fit together. Can’t help liking everyone or hating the bad guys or wanting to like the bad guys. Looking forward to next books. .

The easier question would be, what is not to love in this series? Excellent character development, amazing mysteries, and at the end of every chapter was like a crazy cliff hanger that makes you want to dive into the next chapter. I have been awake a lot later than I should be because this series is so amazing! I want to be in The Witch Squad!
