From USA Today Bestselling Author Devney Perry writing as Willa Nash comes a small town Montana romance.

As Calamity’s newest resident, Everly Christian thought life in small-town Montana would be dull and tame—and she needs a little mundane after the last few chaotic years. But one night, boredom drives her to the local bar, where she finds herself sitting beside a handsome and mysterious artist.

The man is anything but dull and tame, especially in the bedroom, and when she steps out of his shower and overhears his conversation, life gets interesting again.

Reese Huxley needs a wife.

And why shouldn’t Everly be the bride?

She’s got her reasons for agreeing to the hasty nuptials—reasons she’s keeping to herself. As long as she can stop herself from falling in love with her husband, she’ll make it out of this sham marriage in one piece. But Everly has a weakness for wayward men, and the more Hux pushes her away, the more she realizes this bluff is anything but a lie.

i’m EATING THESE UPPPPP pls 😃 idk what it is about this series but it’s so easy to read. and I can’t stop. DONT ASK ME TO BECAUSE I CANT. anyway. Marriage of convenience will always hit, and Everly & Hux didn’t disappoint. I love me a SINGLE DADDD🥵 so that part was my fav. Everly was honestly an angel, and Hux was such a grump.. we love the grumpy/sunshine energy. I also liked that although we got the spice and the couple being “together”, it was still somehow a lil slowburn? the conflict kind of threw me off but it was lowkey understandable. also, these epilogues… they’re GETTING me 🫶🏻

catch me running to the next one 🏃‍♀️

I did not believe that somebody could write this many awful men but I was proven wrong.

Here are the reasons to why I hate Reese Huxley aka Hug:
1. He kisses Everly when she clearly said no and basically forces himself on her. The scene I'm quoting below is btw the make up kiss after they broke up (Quotes from p306):

'I lifted my chin. "No. Get out. We're over." "The fuck we are." His lips crashed down on mine, silencing any protest with a powerful kiss. I struggled, pushing at his hard chest, trying to break free, but Hux was having none of it. His strong arms banded around me, pulling me into his embrace.'

2. He is an awful love interest that has zero trust in Ev and treats her like a child.
There were multiple scenes in this book where he put everyone's opinion above hers and clearly showed how he did not trust her at all and would choose everyone over her.
I do not get how this was supposed to be the start of a healthy and happy relationship. He even admitted out loud that he did not trust her after 250pages of living together.

3. The make up scene was non existent.
There was no real apologising scene or making up scene for how much Hug mistreated Ev. They just got back together after that forced kiss. Yes they were apart for a few days but being apart does not equal to making up for your mistakes.

Now here are the other reasons why I hated this book:
1. No chemistry at all.
From the beginning I was confused on why she decided to marry him. I mean in the end we find out why and I just sat there like a confused child because let's be honest, that did not make sense at all.

2. How did they fall in love without any romance?
They were just horny without any type of connection so I am honestly confused where they started falling in love especially with how Hux treated Ev.

3. The plot was not a good plot.
The initial idea was fine but then everything went wrong because of this creature called Hux.

Moral of the story is fuck Hux

The Bluff is book two in the Calamity Montana series by Willa Nash (Devney Perry.) This is Everly and Hux’s book.

Everly Christian is twenty nine years old. She is Lucy, from the first book’s best friend. It’s been five months since the events that happened in the first book. Everly is still struggling, choosing to spend most of her time in her apartment watching the world from her window. She has fallen in love with Calamity but hasn’t figured out her place in it yet. She doesn’t have a job and her savings is dwindling. On a rare night when she ventured out to the town bar, she agrees to a one night stand with a man who takes her breath away. It was only supposed to be one night, until it turned into two. Then when she overheard a conversation about him needing a wife, her one night stand turned into her husband.

Reese Huxley is the town recluse. He does not do people well. Reese has reasons for keeping to himself. He has a past he’s not proud of. He also has a sixteen year old daughter he’s not allowed to see. When he first saw Everly, she overwhelmed him in every way. He couldn’t stay away from her, couldn’t stop thinking about her. When she offered to be his wife to help him, he should say no, but he didn’t.

As these two navigate life as a married couple, a strange things happens, they begin to care about each other. But this arrangement is supposed to have an expiration date. Will either of them be able to walk away when the time comes? Or has this marriage become more real than either of them planned?

This was a really good book. The first book in the series, though, was so suspenseful. This one not as much so I was a little disappointed about that. The next book in the series, book three, is Kerrigan Hale’s book called The Brazen. I can’t wait to read it.

I surrendered to his kiss. I dropped my guard. I let myself pretend. For tonight, I was his. For tonight, he was mine.

Is it too soon to announce that I'm completely in love with this series? Because while I really liked the first book, I seriously adored this one. I mean, what's not to love?

A grumpy hero? CHECK!
A heroine that owns her sexuality and confidence? CHECK
A marriage of convenience? CHECK AND CHECK
Wonderful secondary characters? CHECK
Small town setting? CHECK

The second the quiet and intimidating Hux made an appearance in the The Bribe, I was immediately curious about this brooding artist. The man clearly had some demons and I couldn't wait to unearth them all. He's a successful artist with a painful history, trying to reconnect with his teenage daughter after she was taken from him by his vindictive ex. The last thing he needs is another entanglement after his disastrous marriage.

Everly is still dealing with the aftermath of what happened with the stalker in book one. She's looking for something in her life, but still hasn't found it. She struggles with her own place and finding who she is outside of who her parents always expected her to be. Hux was only supposed to be a one-night distraction. Soon it turns into a recurring night with no strings attached, until an offer changes everything. Marriage. One that may help him with his reputation in the small town and fight the legal battle to get visitation rights to his daughter.

Man but I loved these two together. They're so imperfectly perfect in their own way. Hux is jaded and broken, and Ev is lost. But yet together, they make so much sense. Hux fights his connection to her at every turn but of course soon the inevitable happens and feelings are involved.

I loved the budding romance with Ev and Hux almost as much as I loved the connection between him and his daughter. There were some red herrings that were thrown in about his ex that I was almost thinking we'd get more of a resolution with, but it was still satisfying. And while the plot twist at the end was not my favorite and a touch predictable, I loved the grovel that followed it.

Yet another fantastic book in what's come to be an addictive series and I can't wait for more!

Who was ready for grumpy Hux to find his match? Because I sure was excited when I found out his story would be a marriage of convenience with Everly, Lucy’s best friend from The Bribe. So yeah, the continuation of Devney Perry’s novels as Willa Nash is working so well, especially when the second book has so many of my favorite troupes. Marriage of convenience. Check! Small town romance. Check! Grumpy and sexy painter / single dad. Check! Sassy and loving heroine. Check! Burning chemistry. DOUBLE CHECK! As you can imagine, Willa did not disappoint with her newest release.

The Bluff is the second installment of Willa Nash’s Calamity Montana series and, as I mentioned, it follows the love story between Everly Christian and Reese Huxley. Everly is Calamity’s newest resident, she has followed her best friend after deciding to leave her singing dreams aside and leaving behind the bad experience that happened in The Bribe. She doesn’t know what to do next with her life and then is when she meets Hux and they have an explosive night. Hux is an incredible painter who loves his daughter dearly and now he needs a wife so he can get Savannah back home. So why not marry Everly for some time and continue enjoying their chemistry (no strings attached)? No feelings involved. Right?

What was it about that woman who made me act on impulse? That first night in the bar. The second night at her place. And now... marriage.

Oh man.. Willa Nash is a mix of all good things Devney Perry and a double dose of steam. And I am a FAN. ‘Cause this girl looooooooves the steam. And let me tell you, Hux and Everly’s chemistry burns the pages from the very start to the very end. I loved how Willa developed this relationship, the fake marriage turning into a real one and the interactions with Savannah and the rest of the crew. I have to say, I especially enjoyed the last third of The Bluff because it was when Hux and Everly’s relationship turned into something more and their emotions got involved 100%. Yes, I loved the sexy times but this time I confess I enjoyed the mix of that with the feelings more. That’s why I loved the last part best. I am so glad these two lost souls found each other and created such a beautiful family. They sure deserve it!

I wanted him. Every broken, grumpy, beautiful piece.

Therefore, my rating for The Bluff is 4 STARS because Willa did a wonderful job with this fake marriage / single dad romance. It makes me love the people from Calamity even more and be more excited for the next installment in the series. Hux and Everly did give us beautiful and smoking hot moments and I am so glad they found happiness together. After all their past, they deserved to find that unbreakable connection. And I do hope Savannah gets her story too because I am excited after that bonus epilogue! So looking forward to read more from Willa Nash and the Calamity Montana crew!

A grumpy sunshine and marriage of convince romance- sign me right up! This is the second book in the Calamity Montana small town romance series and I enjoyed it even more than the first!

Huxley is an artist and a bit of a recluse. Everly hasn’t been to town long, she’s best friend with Lucy (from the first book) and the time she’s been here has been eventful. Hux and Everly have some fun together, but it’s never serious. Until Everly overhears his attorney saying. his custody battle for his teenage daughter would go smoother- if he had a wife.

I love a good marriage of convince story and watching it go from fake to real is the absolute best part. I loved both of these characters and the epilogue was perfect! I am pretty certain I know who the next book is about and it’s most likely going to be an enemies to lovers so I’m here for it!

#2 The Bluff — 3.75 stars

idk why but it is not a bluff when i said the angst in this book really hit me HARD like a sledgehammer. maybe because the H is a damaged, tortured soul on top of being a world class a**hole who doesnt believe the h (even though she always does things in his best interest), and every single of his repeat offenses made me love and hate him more. or maybe because hes a reclusive, ex convict who PAINTS like Picasso and is also a DILF 😍 and this book has grumpy/sunshine energy with fake marriage in it, which is my absolute kryptonite!!! cant it be all of the above??

whichever it is, this was such a drama filled, intense, and sexy read. 😘 🤌 the H & h start their relationship with a one night stand fling, which i thought i was gonna hate cause i dont like this in my romance. surprisingly, i feel like their development was a bit of a slow burn. this is mostly because the H has many reservations when it comes to women. hes been burned, so he doesnt trust easily. he doubted, offended, and pushed the h away quite a number of times, which normally would drive me bonkers, but i just loved his blindness to see whos actually deceiving him and whos not lol.

the h is sassy, full of life, and selfless; but she knows her limit with the H. when shes had enough, she dumps him! the H does grovel a bit. but i wish she’d left somewhere far away, so he could chase her and grovel some more. 👿 on another note, the plot about the H getting custody of his teen daughter, i wish SHE & the h had bonded more cause they were like mirror of each other, and i feel like the h couldve helped the daughter a lot. overall, this book has many fans favorite elements, but i think the romance can be a hit or miss for some. luckily, it was mostly the former for me. ♥

KA book that reminds me of The Bluff:

The disappointment is real with this one. I gushed about the first book in this series, The Bribe, and couldn’t wait for this book to release. A marriage of convenience and a single dad are my kryptonite. However, The Bluff didn’t live up to my expectations.

From the beginning, you could feel the chemistry between Everly and Hux. That chemistry was wasted on just a fling for quite some time. Even up towards over the middle of the book and they still are just in this convenient arrangement with marriage and sex. Where was the romance? I wanted so much more.

My favorite character in this book was Everly. She lost her way after the incident that happened in the previous book and was trying to figure out what she wanted to do with her life. She was sassy and I enjoyed her character. Besides Lucy, it felt like no one was on her side. She received so much crap that she didn’t deserve from so many people. Hux, his daughter, and don’t even get me started on the ex-wife.

Hux. I never really cared for him. I get that he wanted custody of his daughter. That was probably the most redeeming quality about him. He came off harsh and some of his actions made me dislike him. He refused to see the truth about some of the people he trusted but always cut Everly down when she honestly cared about him. Yes, people make mistakes but when you keep making the SAME mistakes, you need to check yourself. Hell, we were deep into the book and he was still saying that he didn't think he could trust Everly.

Overall, this disappointed me and I’m so sad about it. I wanted more and to actually feel the love between the couple. The next book is about Kerrigan and I think I might still pick it up. I will just have to make sure I go in with lower expectations.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Willa Nash AKA Devney Perry, I truly Love You, This Series, And All Of The Characters You Have Created. You created people who were not perfect, who doubted themselves, who had made mistakes, and who were willing to admit them.

I fell hard for Hux and his situation.
His devotion to his daughter was his driving force. It sometimes blinded him to things and people around him, but this man was willing to go to the mat for his kid.

Everly had her own demons to contend with and she found a way to make a difference and also reach out to Hux. The coming together of these two was delicious.

Again, I Love, Love, Love This Series.

SERIES: Calamity Montana #2 ( it can be read as standalone)
GENRE: contemporary romance
TROPES: a marriage of convenience
CLIFFHANGER: no
HOTTIE METER: 4🌡
RATING: 4 ⭐

I stayed up to finish this book.

“Not much.” I shrugged. One. Two. Three. Go. “Cleaned. Did a load of laundry. Got married.”
Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
Yeah, I was going to vomit.
“That’s ni—” Lucy blinked, registering my words.
Duke looked past her, his mouth gaping open with some pizza showing. “What did you say?”
“I got married.”

♦ single parent
♦ marriage of convenience
♦ grumpy hero, brooding, damaged hero
♦ confident, loyal & positive heroine
♦ small-town romance
♦ steamy

"He had this raw and rough edge. A simmering brood that wafted off his body in waves."

"The caress of his breath skated across my flesh. His scent, spice and soap and paint, filled my nose. The winter cold did nothing to cool the fire blazing under my skin."

I ate this book up. It was enjoyable to read. Even though our hero is messing things up left and right. It was "adorable" how he just couldn't get it right with females in his life; heroine, co-worker, ex-wife, daughter. These two are dealing with their personal issues. Evelyn is lost after quitting her career and moving to a small town in Montana. Hux is trying to get custody of his 16 yo daughter after some events happen that led to believe her life with his ex-wife is not so great.
After a one-night stand, these two keep on having a lot more only benefits agreement..until Hux needs a wife to improve his chances of getting his daughter. So, naturally, we get a marriage of convenience. Lots of steamy moments later, and some drama..we get a delightful happy end.

You don't have to read book one The Bribe , that book is about the best friend of our heroine. I would recommend it too because I really enjoyed it but it is not needed. Every time I finish Willa Nash/Devney Perry's book I want to read the next one.
What kind of witchcraft is this?!

This book is a delicious snack...
Can't wait for the next one!!

song: The Neighbourhood - Reflections

This series makes me want to drop out of college and live in a small town with amazing views

As always, I'll start with the characters:

Everly (h): I loved her personality. She was selfless, sweet, and strong! My heart ached for her. She was that kind of person who shows you what she wanted you to see, but in the inside she was hurting and hiding so much pain!

Hux (H): There were moments where I wanted to hit the shit out of him and then strangle him so I can talk some sense to him, but I'd remember that he didn't have it easy either and forgive him, his insecurities made him a bastard in so many situations, but he won me over with his sweet actions! ( My favorite kind of heroes)

Everly and Hux's relationship may be started as a bluff, but their feelings were real no matter how much they denied them. They cared for each other, and they showed so much affection for two people who agreed to be just physical..!

If you're looking for a small-town story with a cocky hero and an amazing heroine, then this book is for you!

My Favorite Quote :

“I wanted it to be real. With every passing day, I wanted to belong to someone special and have that special someone belong to me.
I wanted that special someone to be Hux.”

The Bluff is not what I expected. It started with ONS between Everly and Huck, then it became so much more. Fake mariage, family drama , some soap opera plot.

I thought it was going to be a boring, OTT drama romance. Then toward the end, the story becomes interesting. Miss Nash gave us conclusion to her layer upon layer of drama she build at the beginning.

Slowly I began to understand the whole story/ plot. I still think there is too much drama, though. Overall a good book.

Everly deserved so much better than all those people... The only person who was there for her was Lucy.

Hux needed to grovel more. I didn’t like him that much.

I’m only giving this 3.5 stars because the writing was good, the story was engaging and I really liked Everly.

I didn’t read this too long ago, but it was already downloaded on my phone and I was stuck in airplane mode so I skim read it again. I HATE when authors make you sign up for their newsletter to get the extended epilogue, but the ending was so rushed that I was curious and decided to take one for the team.

***Original Review***
3.5 Grumpy-Sunshine Stars

I’m WAY behind on reviews because I read like nine books on vacation, so I read this a week ago… and this might suck. Going in I didn’t realize that Willa Nash is Devney Perry who is hit or miss for me. I didn't read the first book, but I never felt lost… but this is a series so there is plenty from secondary characters… FYI if that’s not your thing.

It was alright, I really liked the h (Everly), I just didn’t love all the assholes orbiting around her. (moody H, his bitchy ex-wife, his hateful daughter) She was strong in some ways, but way too overaccommodating IMHO to said assholes. You will have to overlook that the premise of the book, the fake marriage to get visitation is absurd. But there is some wannabe OW shenanigans from his two-faced friend that churned up some good drama.

Hux has a GINORMOUS chip on his shoulder and is a MAJOR grump. He basically avoids everyone and is always scowling. Everly is a bit lost. She had some stalker trouble with the last h in the first book and is working through some shit. The two have a steamy ONS and decide to have a no strings affair when she overhears a conversation with his lawyer and volunteers to marry him. (per blurb) The rest is their journey to HEA… bumping over his attitude, his ex-wife, his assistant, his terrible daughter. There’s plenty to keep you entertained.

Bottom Line- I liked it, but LOVE drama… and with all that ⬆️ there’s plenty of it. For me it would’ve been a solid 4⭐ if there would’ve been some on page comeuppance… and maybe the H and his daughter would’ve got over themselves earlier… and I prefer the groveling to be more interactive. I understand the desire to ice them out, but I prefer to watch them beg a bit. Available on KU.

Tropes;
Grumpy/Sunshine
Friends with Benefits
Single Dad Trope
Marriage of Convenience
Small Town Romance
Dual POV

Lmao this literally has every trope that I love!!! This book was soooo much better than the first one.

This book follows Everly and Hux who meet at the local bar and have a one night stand (this is off page) and then start up a friends with benefits situation.

One day while Everly is at Hux’s house, he overhears his lawyer say to Hux that he would have a better chance at getting custody or visitation of his daughter if he were married. Everly offers to step in and help out, hence the marriage of convenience. And well you know how it goes, they end up falling in love because of the forced proximity.

I loved the heroine in this book already from the interactions we got with her in book 1 so my love for her only grew more and more while reading this book.

The hero in this book was such a grumpy man and he made me wanna throw a few punches at him when he was doubting the heroine but in the end he grovelled enough for me to like him again.

Overall an enjoyable read, but not without flaws. This book was more.. calm , compared to the first one.Fake Marriage is the trope used here, Everly Christian is Lucy's best friend from book 1, and we also meet Hux there, he is an artist and owns a gallery in Calamity.
It starts with a ONS between them and ends with them married and living together.
I enjoyed the writing style like I always do with this author, the secondary characters ( Kerrigan) , plot wise was a bit dull , but it compensated with steamy and some funny scenes.

So why 3 stars?

This series just keeps getting better.

Reece ‘Hux’ Huxley has been struggling to get custody of his sixteen-year-old daughter for years and when his lawyer suggests it would be easier to get custody should he be married Everly Christian the gorgeous woman he’s been sleeping with overhears and proposes the crazy idea that they get married. Thus begins a fake marriage scheme but living with and spending all your time with your fake spouse you have crazy chemistry with is a sure-fire way to ensure it doesn’t stay fake for long.

Whether as Devney Perry or Willa Nash her books are an ultimate comfort read to me. There were so many elements to this book that I loved.

I adore a marriage of convenience trope, the tension of slowly falling in love with someone you are married to whilst keeping up a ruse you’ve always been in love is unmatched. And it is done so well here, the reason behind them getting married is unique as I haven’t seen it used to play out this trope before. Having all that forced proximity and sleeping together until you realise there are serious feelings at play is so so gOOD.

I loved Hux and Everly both as individual characters and their relationship. They complimented each other so well, his gruff and grumpy attitude to her much sunnier disposition. But with much more hidden behind the fronts they both present. Nothing brings me joy quite like a grumpy/ sunshine pairing. Their chemistry was so well fleshed out I was so invested in their relationship the entire time.

Hux’s relationship with his daughter made him that much more endearing, he missed out on a large portion of her life and refuses to waste more time. He was so sweet with her even when she was proving to be particularly difficult (though given her home life with her mother and stepfather quite understandably so).

I sped through this book, reading the majority of it in one sitting it is such a good time.

ate this one up!

yeah I don’t understand how quickly I’m devouring these books. I’m not that fast of a reader I did take me all day to read this book but I’m proud of myself and I’m giving myself a pat on the back. I absolutely loved the story it was so much fun. It followed Everly a side character from the first book and Hux the convict who was mentioned in the first book. And I absolutely love the story this story was a marriage of convenience which nobody told me about, if I had known I would’ve been read this book a long time ago. Anyways I had such a good time, I loved the relationship dynamics, I loved the conflict in the story, it actually made a lot of sense! I actually really enjoyed how that was interpreted into the storyline as well as how elements of other characters were brought in. I do wish we got a little bit more of Lucy and duke from the first book, I only got a couple glimpses and I just feel like I didn’t get enough of my fill of them, but regardless the story was phenomenal I had a bunch of fun reading!

“Hux owned every memory of Calamity, even the ones before we’d met. Because they’d all lead me to him.”

2021 has barely begun, and I’ve already found a book to put on my top reads list. The Bluff is just my kind of read. My very own kryptonite. It’s stories like this that I can’t get enough of and that remind me daily of why I love reading so much…

The Bluff is the second book in the Calamity Montana Series and it follows the story of Hux and Everly. Following the events of The Bribe, Everly has decided to stay on in Calamity and is looking forward to a slower-paced life. What she didn’t count on was one night of boredom bringing Hux into her life. Hux is a mysterious artist that always has a scowl on his face. He isn’t looking for love, but can’t pass up a good time. But, when Everly overhears a conversation Hux is having with his lawyer, his world is going to be turned upside down.

The Bluff is everything I was hoping for and more. Fake Relationship books are my kryptonite. I am completely, 100% addicted to them. I can’t help but devour these kinds of stories and The Bluff checked off each and every one of my boxes. The Bluff is filled with heart and romance. It’s filled with love, growth, and moments that will definitely frustrate you. It’s a story of learning to let go and not be afraid to trust. It’s a story of family and forgiveness that will pull at your heart and leave you begging for more.

If you’re a fan of Willa Nash/Devney Perry’s writing then you know what you’re getting yourself into. You can expect a captivating story that’s words will leap off the page and leave you begging for more. You can expect a flawlessly written story with an air of mystery and plenty of sexy good times. Most of all, you can expect a story that will give you all the feels and make you fall helplessly in love. And that’s just some of what The Bluff gave to me.

If you’re a fan of second chance/fake relationship romances, I highly recommend giving The Bluff a try. I hope you’ll fall head over heels for Hux and Everly just as I have…

I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK. It feels like forever since I started a book and finished it in one day. Once I began reading there was no stopping, I flew through this book and I was so consumed with everything about this story and the characters. Now, hours later I only wish I would’ve paced myself only to prolong the ending because I did not want this book to ever end.

After that shocking revelation at the end of The Bribe I needed the next book in this series asap! I desperately needed Everly and Hux’s story after getting just a small taste. Willa Nash did not disappoint either, this book just added to my ever growing love of this series.

From the moment Everly was introduced I liked her instantly. She’s such a selfless and caring person and I loved her determination and strength. She’s at a crossroads and trying to figure out what do with her life and find her place in the world. I really enjoyed her journey and personal growth throughout the book.

Hux unequivocally stole every piece of my heart. His story left me an emotional mess with everything he’d been through and was still going through. His life hasn’t been easy, but he’s trying and he wants to be better especially for his daughter. Underneath the hard and grumpy exterior, Hux has a caring and tender side which added to the already amazing man he was.

Everly and Hux had outstanding chemistry. The fire between them burned red hot. There was no denying the attraction they had for each other and it was evident from their first encounter. I loved the progression of their relationship and how little by little they started to let their walls down and fully get to know each other and open their hearts to one another.

The Bluff was a fantastic addition the The Calamity Montana Series. This small town romance brought the emotions and more. This was a beautiful and heartwarming story and had me wanting more. I can’t wait for the next book and to get lost once again in the charm of Calamity and its characters.

Oh my gosh!! Hux and Everly!!! They are everything that sizzles, angst that will bring tears to your eyes and ALL the feels!!!!

Holy heck, did I love this book! I didn’t realize I was going to adore Everly as much as I did. The hero is usually my focus point, but Everly totally won me over one hundred percent. Watching her natural flow with Hux was magic. She had a way about her that is hard to describe which shows the talent of this author when it comes to developing characters.

Hux was the type of hero that I can never get enough of. He was grumpy, frowny, and determined to keep others at a distance.

”He had this raw and rough edge. A simmering brood that wafted off his body in waves. A warning. A message. Stay away.”

But when Everly enters his life, he begins to make decisions that weaken his previous resolve. Gah! I love when that happens. Watching his downfall was wonderful and extremely emotional.

I Have Come to Say Goodbye... — Sweet Pea X Reader Part 10 “It's a Pleasure.”

Together, Hux and Everly set my kindle on FIRE! They absolutely blew up the heat-o-meter. Everything between them felt real, from their battle against falling in love, to their moments or honesty with each other. The conflict between them as well as their own personal issues often had me tearing up if not actually crying out loud.

”His silence was too much to bear. Because in his silence was acceptance. Confirmation that all I’d ever been to him was a means to an end.”

This is a fast read, with great pacing and some wonderful characters. Whether they’re a good guy or a villain, they are well developed and support the story along the way, authenticating the plot. With an amazing epilogue that highlights where this couple is a few months down the road, it also gives us a tease of what is to come. And I can hardly wait!

Spoilers ahead, 2.5* reluctantly rounded up( like I'm literally arguing with myself lol)

I had a love/hate relationship with this one mainly due to the hero

We met both mcs in book 1 with Everly as the best friend of the h and Hux as the father of troubled teen Savannah. Here Hux is once again battling his ex for custody of his child. As an ex con though it's a difficult process with his ex lying and further damaging his rep.
Everly left college to go with her best friend to pursue singing, she moved to Calamity after the stalking incident and has been holed up in her room watching life pass by without a real direction for her life.
The two meet in the town's bar and have a ONS, shortly after they have another..... And then another until Everly overheard his lawyer suggest marriage as a means to improve his standing before the court. She asks and shockingly enough after some deliberation Hux agrees
Now two people who agreed on sex only are living together as man and wife. With a bitter ex, a troubled teen and a small town with a long memory things get a little complicated.

********
Hux should've been a hero I loved. He was a father trying to do his best for his child's sake and a grumpy hero.....my favorite kind! Yet..... I didn't quite like him, he put everyone before Everly including standing up for his female best friend over her. He apologized prettily after each episode but I really disliked his attitude. Then when he starts wondering if she's motivated by his money I had to laugh. He knows he's got lots of money tucked away..... He knows the marriage is temporary yet HE never suggests a prenup to protect his own interests?? Yet he wonders if she's a gold digger??? Yeah I definitely wasn't a fan. When he finally messed up badly enough that she dumped him he did an ok grovel(y'all know I need an EPIC grovel to consider it worth it)
Everly was a bit all over the place for me, she made the first, second and third moves on the Hero and that ticked me off immediately. Then in many little instances he didn't treat her like he valued her and she just accepted his stupid apology and continued on. I too honestly questioned her motivation for helping him out because he really wasn't a prize. Even when he messed up big time I fully expected her to accept his apology again.... Thankfully she stuck to her guns and made him work for forgiveness that time.o

Savannah in the background as a troubled teen with a bad attitude just made things more difficult.

All in all some moments I liked, some I didn't but I never skimmed or put this book down. I've had some hits by this author so I'll continue to give her a try.

I'm looking forward to the next book I really hope the h has a backbone like I expect. Fingers crosseda

No cheating
Both sexually experienced with the H saying he no longer hooked up in Calamity but went out of town
Chemistry was off the charts..... I'm not 100% convinced on the love

While book one in Willa Nash's debut Calamity Montana Series wasn't a huge hit with me The Bluff book two in the series was PERFECTION!! This is the type of book I was expecting when I picked up book one because honestly even though Willa Nash is a pen name the goddess behind this is Devney Perry and her books are always a huge hit with me. If I could give Hux and Everly more than five stars I would because I am in LOVE!!

“Ev.” His gravelly voice wrapped around me like silk. “Look at me.”
My eyes locked with his blues and… crash.
I loved him.
I was undeniably in love with Reese Huxley.”

We met Everly in The Bribe and I could tell she was a woman to be reckoned with. Marriage of convenience books are either huge hits or misses with me but this one was done right. Hux was exactly what I would expect of a guy who had been to prison and returned to his hometown to basically become the town pariah. From Hux and Everly's first meeting it is intense, passionate and seriously sexy. What could go wrong with having a fake marriage with the hottest guy you have ever seen? Everly ends up way in over her head and so does Hux. Not to mention the whole reason behind this ploy is to get Hux's daughter away from her Mom.

I must give huge props to Willa Nash because she did Everly and Savannah's relationship correctly. While I love a good coming together family story like everyone else, it always seems like authors will throw the children and the stepparent together to make for a nice little HEA. Again, that is super sweet but that is not how it usually happens, and Nash did a beautiful job of showing their relationship growing in a very real and honest way.

Okay, I need to stop this review before it gets away from me. Honestly, all that needs to be said is I loved this book so much and Hux might be one of my favorite new book beaus. The Brazen book three in the Calamity Montana series sounds like it might be a bit different from the first two and I can't wait to see what Kerrigan gets up to. She seems like she is going to be one helluva spitfire!!

5 stars!

I love this book! A fake relationship/marriage of convenience story that is passionate, intense, and absolutely sizzling with chemistry! I felt the connection between these two characters, and I loved their fun, dramatic and (mildly) angsty story.

This is the second book in the Calamity Montana series, and while you can read it as a standalone, there is some character crossover, and beware storyline spoilers for the first book in the series, The Bribe.

Everly Christian is the best friend of Lucy (heroine from book #1). An ex-singer, she followed her best friend from Nashville to the small town of Calamity, and was a part of the drama that unfolded at the end of the previous book. It has left its mark on her, and she’s feeling very lost, with her life in limbo. She’s searching for…. something. She’s just not sure what that something is.

Reese ‘Hux’ Huxley is a local artist with a devastating background. He’s a single father with practically no access to his 16-year-old daughter and he has been through hell, and while his professional life is booming, he is struggling personally. Gruff and broody, he has a reputation in town for being closed off and a total loner, but deep down he is a man nursing a whole lot of hurt, and of course, I fell for him instantly.

Everly and Hux meet at a bar one night and end up sharing a wild and unforgettable night together. Hux is absolutely not interested in a relationship, but when it becomes clear that they can’t keep their hands off each other, they agree to a no-strings arrangement for as long as it both suits them. And it absolutely does. And then Everly overhears that to help his situation, Hux needs a wife. Presented with the opportunity to help him, Everly is right on board, offering herself up as his fake (but oh-so-willing) wife. The plan being that they maintain their current no-strings arrangement, while living together as a married couple, showing their ‘love’ off to the town.

“You need to show the town of Calamity that you’re not just a brooding artist with a magnificent scowl and marginal social skills.”
His frown deepened.
“See?” I pointed to his face. “This is what I’m talking about. Seriously, Hux, you radiate pissed-off jerk.

It’s a fantastic set-up, and so much fun, and I loved watching the story play out. Hux and Everly have a wonderful dynamic that is honest and upfront – part snark, part playful, part raw sexuality, and I loved them together!

Everly in bed was something I could compartmentalize. The bed was familiar. The bed was easy. If we had one thing going for us headed into this shitshow, it was the sex.

Damn it. Nothing good would come from me falling in love with my husband.

Complications arise when, of course, the more entwined their lives become, feelings start to develop. There’s also Hux’s family situation – his daughter and his vindictive ex-wife, and the fact that nobody in his life seems to accept Everly’s place in it. Then there are Everly’s demons which she’s still wrestling with. There’s drama, and a little bit of angst, and though it hurt at times, I loved watching them work through it.

I wanted it to be real. With every passing day, I wanted to belong to someone special and have that special someone belong to me.
I wanted that special someone to be Hux.

Ev and Hux are magic together! They have such a positive impact on each other, they laugh and tease, and the growing emotion between them is so, so beautiful. You can see every stage of their changing relationship, and there are some wonderfully swoony moments in this book. It’s not an easy ride for them, they have a lot to figure out and they have to fight for their happy ending, but the drama and conflict is really well written, it’s understandable from both sides, and it’s so worth it to watch them figure it all out.

“Ev.” His gravelly voice wrapped around me like silk. “Look at me.”
My eyes locked with his blues and…
crash.
I loved him.
I was undeniably in love with Reese Huxley.

I loved so much about this book – the characters, their individual stories, and their story as a couple. The drama brings so much to their journey, and it all comes together beautifully to create a really special read. We get a glimpse of the fireworks in store for the next book, and that glorious bonus epilogue hints at a possible future book for Hux’s daughter, Savannah, and I am here for it! The only thing that could have made this book even better was more of Ev and Hux together - the book ended and I wasn’t ready for it to be over, and I would have loved just a little bit more. But I look forward to many, many rereads of this book in the future.

Whether she’s writing as Devney Pery or Willa Nash, the woman has a gift, and I just keep falling more and more in love with her stories.

5 stars!

4 STARS!

✨ AVAILABLE NOW! ✨

The Bluff by Willa Nash will leave you a complete swooning mess!

A brooding hero who scowls constantly? Marriage of convenience with hot sexy times? Need I say more?

If Reese Huxley did not have you curious when introduced in book 1, then you shouldn't be reading this book 😝!! Hux has been dealt with a crappy hand in life but he isn't a bad man. He's good and deserves all the happiness the world has to offer. Now, I will say I do love my romances to be centered in small towns. However, I also hate how people in those small towns think they have the right to judge others 🙄 #shoveit. Small town living can truly suck at times 😭. Because of this, Hux has become a true recluse. All he does is fight to be with his daughter Savannah 😭.

We also met Everly Christian in book 1. She's Lucy's best friend. Ever since the farmhouse incident, fear is a reoccurring feeling that Everly lives with. She's always looking over her shoulder. Her feelings about music are no longer the same and she's finally awaken to this revelation. This alone took alot for her to realize. So when this opportunity with Hux presents itself she jumps at it, ready to stop questioning her stand in life.

What is suppose to be a causal relationship soon turns into a fake relationship that will hit you with all the feels! There's explosive chemistry and a deep, genuine connection between Hux and Everly. She has a strong female confidence that shines through and with the help of Hux, she's able to feel safe once more. But she also helps him belong and feel more comfortable around others. With her by his side, you get to witness all his smiles and those magical laughs.

The Bluff will warm your heart and soul! Certain plot twist didn't sit well with me, which reflects in my rating but I loved the emotion in this novel and the wonderful supportive secondary characters. Just another fab·tastic book in what is becoming an addictive series... I cannot wait for the next book! Can we say enemies-to-lovers 💃🏻!
