The Beginnings
-
How did we get our start?
The Army Painter is the brainchild of Bo Penstoft and Jonas Færing. Veterans with many years in the wargaming and hobby industry. The two teamed up to launch the original Quickshade Dip. It is the first ever speed painting solution to be brought to market. The beginnings of what would become The Army Painter. Quickshade was an instant success, and the company would then go on to produce other groundbreaking and top-quality products and ranges. The Army Painter is on their path to becoming an industry innovator and leader.
-
-
Where are we today
Since 2007, The Army Painter has grown from a two-person startup with one product to a complete hobby company with nearly 80 employees. Army Painter in a new state-of-the-art production facility in Skanderborg, Denmark. A far cry from filling Quickshade tins from a tiny red barn in Bo’s backyard. The Army Painter Colour Lab has gone on to develop several key products and ranges. All designed to help new and experienced gamers bring their gray plastic sprues to life. From the first clip to the final layer of paint – and everything in between.

I did contact the Army Painter customer service to see if I got a bad lot or something, but what I got back in response was a virtual shoulder shrug and "I guess you're doing it wrong." I did check out a couple of mini painting blogs and they really confirmed my troubles, Army Painter is the bottom tier of mini paints. I'll be switching to Vallejo paints for any future needs.
Top reviews from other countries
One thing of note though, which is in part why this isn't a 5 star review, is that the paints in the Adventurers set appeared to be older than the monster set's paint, and likely were out of date. In particular a handful of the paints from that set seemed to be thicker, and after diluting them with a bit of water it became apparent there were some solid bits of what I assume were settled pigments. Still usable, and I was able to paint my figures with a bit of caution to avoid the bits, but the comparison to the monster set paints made their issue more magnified.
Still a great set! and I would reccomend it to people looking to start out with miniature painting! I've since ordered some more figures as I've got loads of paints left in the sets and am excited to show of the mini's to my weekly group.
Nice-to-know:
