One Cable does the Job, Adding a Second Monitor has Never Been So Easy

Thanks to the higher bandwidth of USB 3.0, experience fast, fluid images from your connected device that makes having an on-the-go multi-display setup a reality. What’s more, the MB168B is backwards compatible with a notebook or desktop PC USB 2.0 port**.
*Resolution varies by product SKU.
**USB 2.0 connection may affect brightness settings and image quality.
With a slim 8mm (0.3-inch) profile and tipping the scales at just 800g (1.76 pounds), the MB168B is the world’s slimmest and lightest companion display, ideal for a simple on-the-go dual-monitor setup and mobile presentations.
Increased Productivity with ASUS EzLink Technology
The MB168B features ASUS EzLink technology that offloads graphics processing from the PC to dedicated hardware in the monitor. As a result, a PC can drive up to five MB168B monitors at the same time, regardless of its own graphics capability - it just needs sufficient USB ports. EzLink also automatically restores application window positions as a MB168B monitor is connected and disconnected, and automatically rotates the image between landscape and portrait modes, as required.

Cons:
--It should come with a Y cable (the AOC does), but I had to buy one in order to get enough power to the ASUS due to the low power output of the SP3 USB port. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005M0ICG2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00).
--The case is supposed to double as a stand, but it's just weird and not as stable as I'd liek, soI bought a different style stnad which is working great. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014GCTGFM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00).
Pros:
--The screen is GREAT. Very crisp and clear images and non-glare.
--The display colors are not as good as the SP3, but very close, and not really enough to be noticeable, unless you are doing photo editing. For the average school work/job, surfing or gaming this screen will be great. (Pictures included so you can see for yourself.)
--Easy to get up and running. Just plug in, download the driver and it worked.
--It's super light weight.
--Comes with protective case. I wish it was a hard case, but it's pretty sturdy as soft cases go and MUCH better than what you got with the AOC (a neoprene soft case that is VERY tight to get on and is likely to rip out after just a few uses), or the GeChic 2501H (nothing at all).
--It works with my Surface Pro 3. A BIG DEAL! Who knew the SP3 was such a pain to get a portable monitor for?!
--The Tech support was great. (The first MB169B+ I got was DOA, but just to be sure, I walked through some tests with the ASUS Tech Support and they were great! In the end, I had to return it and get a replacement, which went flawlessly.)
As for the ASUS MB169C+, I could never get it to power up with the SP3, so I'm not sure if it's a power issue, a DOA issue, or just that I was using a converter cable to go from the USB-C to USB 3.1 connection to the SP3. For more details on the GeChic 2501H, see my product review.

UPDATE:
Upgrade from 4 to 5 stars. I received my y cable usb 3.0 today from Cable Matters. The cable is short but it suits my needs. I plugged it into my Surface Pro 3 and it works. I was able to do this because I have the docking station with it. If you don't have a docking stations, you would need to buy a usb hub but keep in mind that the power will be drawn from the built in port of the usb and cause the Surface Pro 3 to get warm quicker. I am loving it.
UPDATE: 9/30/15
One of the comments left mentioned the usb port that is on the SP3 power brick - totally forgot about it. It works that way as well but I didn't feel like getting a usb extension since I already had the docking station. If you are anything like me, the less cables, the better - I have a thing for cable management.

How happy I am with it? Well just ordered my second one. Using with Mac will be seamless, use with Surface Book 3 will need the ordered Microsoft Dock as dual-powered USB-C is needed (Surface book only has one USB-C jack).
Important, buy it with the tripod, worth the difference in price. Have to love the Amazon.ca customer service supervisor to issue me a gift card for the Amazon.ca listing screw up which was noted with the tripod for $300 less than without, but then shipped without a tripod. Listing has been pulled but only after I was able to purchase the correct unit (with tripod) with a gift card included.
Why the tripod? It allows you to use the monitor behind and above your MacBook, Notebook instead of behind. This is great in areas with limited space. Also, allow for adjustable height to that if you are using either a notebook cooler or riser. The footprint of the tripod feet (3) is about 6 inches. Very sturdy. Would have loved it if Asus used a standard mount for the tripod so that you could attach a monitor to a standard tripod or mount, but the proprietary mount is very secure. Allow the monitor to work in either horizontal or vertical viewing.
Monitor resolution is awesome as well as the screen refresh rate.
Some have noted that the fit and finish are flimsy but hold on... This is a 17-inch monitor that is super thin and exceptionally light. Using any other fit and finish would add weight and/or size. If you baby this item just as you would with your notebook itself, then no issue. Buttons are firm, internal menu options is great.
The tripod also comes with a carry bag that can carry two of these monitors with separation along with a nifty zip pocket on both sides of the bottom which is where you can put not one but two of the tripods.
So, for me, where I travel and stay in a hotel monthly a three-monitor configuration almost gives me the screen real estate that I have with my home office 47-inch curved monitor...
The colours on the monitor are awesome and connectivity is great where you can power and view with one USB-C cable (to MacBook or Notebook) while you can power and connect to video only USB-C connection (Nintendo Switch etc.).
The battery power is 3 hours but is a little shorter if running high-resolution games but that is expected.
If you want to add a second or third monitor in my case, then this is your choice.
One thing to note when ordering:
XG17AHPE model is for the monitor without tripod while,
XG17AHP model is for the monitor with a tripod and bag (best option).
Been noticing that third-party websites (bought my first monitor through Best you know who! and they and other Canadian retailers are sold out mind you Amazon.ca and Amazon.com does have inventory at the time of this review.
Asus advertising this monitor as portable with 3-hour battery life. It meets everything as described. The perfect option for portable gaming or in my case office use as well as software and web development.
