Product Description

Liquitex offers the broadest range of acrylic mediums to inspire creativity at every stage of the painting process. Surface Prep Mediums are used to seal prime and add tooth (for color adhesion) to all surfaces such as canvas wood paper and metal. This same preparation is used for both acrylic and oil paint. Our professional gessoes usually take just one coat, and adding Liquitex Soft Body color to any gesso creates customized tints and primers. Liquitex Gesso Surface Prep Medium is a premium acrylic gesso used to prepare painting surfaces for acrylic and oil paint. Excellent base coat primer for many applications, including murals; one coat is usually all that is required. Can be applied to any material or surface that will accept traditional acrylic media, such as canvas, paper, wood, etc.  Liquitex Surface Prep Mediums are lightweight, non-toxic, and dry to a water-resistant, non-yellowing surface. APPLICATION: Use undiluted or thin up to 25% with water. When thinning more than 25%, use an equal mixture of water and Liquitex Matte Medium to thin gesso. Surface Preparation

Surface Preparations are used to seal, prime and add tooth (for color adhesion) to all surfaces such as canvas, wood, paper and metal. This same preparation is used for both acrylic and oil paint. Our professional gessoes usually take just 1 coat.

The white Liquitex gesso is excellent to prepare unprimed canvas, the way I use it that works for me is I first cut my canvas to size making sure I leave an extra few inches all the way around, I'll give the canvas its first coat and let dry completely overnight, and then the next morning I will staple and stretch the canvas over the stretcher bars nice and tight like a drum skin, next install your hanging wire on the back, and then brush on a second coat of this gesso, don't forget the sides and you will have a beautiful custom created canvas ready for your next painting, preferably in oils, then you will be a crazy Self-made artist like myself, well, that's what they say, I just go along with it.

This is a product that I usually use, so I knew what I was buying initially. This product is a great quality product, has amazing coverage, & easy to use. I like the texture of it during + when I’m finished prepping my canvas. It’s definitely my go to + will continue to be because it’s on par with Golden, but definitely a cheaper alternative.

Clear gesso is a requirement for mixed-media artists and art journalists. This is an excellent clear gesso. It goes on easy and thin, without waste. This gesso is not the cheapest clear gesso, but you get the quality you pay for! I purchased the largest bottle, which was the cheapest per ounce. Buying in volume does pay off! The Liquitex container closes sealed completely, therefore this gesso will not dry out and become useless, allowing you to use it for a long period of time! It is my favorite clear gesso and I bought a bottle for my sister as a gift who just started art journaling! She likes it!
