Product Description
For anything more than casual use you need a tripod that's very stable, can withstand some serious use, and yet moves with fluid smoothness. Our Orion Paragon XHD extra heavy-duty professional field tripod fills the bill, providing extra heavy-duty support for giant binoculars, cameras, spotting scopes, and telescopes such as the Orion ShortTube 80 Refractor telescope, Apex 90, 102 and 127 Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes, spotting scopes, and Resolux and Giant View binoculars.
The Orion XHD Paragon-Plus Tripod is constructed almost exclusively of aluminum, making it strong at key stress points where other tripods fail. It features large, adjustable aluminum-tube legs with robust lock levers for convenient setup and takedown. Each leg features graduated reference etchings so you can quickly and easily extend each leg to the same preferred length - a great timesaver when trying to setup gear in a hurry. The legs are tri-braced to the center elevator housing for extra stability. This paragon-plus tripod is 67-inches tall when fully extended, putting binoculars easily at eye level for most people.

Having said that, I will say that this is by far the sturdiest tripod I have ever used. The heavier weight holds your binos or camera rock steady. If you are looking for a tripod to hold your large binoculars, look no further.
Panning friction is adjustable and locks nicely. Attaching your optics to the head is not the best system I've used but does do the job. The quick release plate does not "slide" into the head, it is set onto the head then locked down. The first couple of times you do this, take your time, be sure the plate is lined up correctly as to not drop your optics.
I am sure there are better tripods, ( at 2-3 times the $$), but at this price you get a very sturdy tripod that will not let you down.
THE GOOD: wide, heavy, and stable; locking head; can handle 25x100 binos; and comes with a case!
THE BAD: the elevator post cranks up and down easy enough but the twist-lock requires a lot of twisting to keep the post from sliding down
THE UGLY: a bit pricey... but worth it (if you don't want the case, Orion sells just the tripod for $158)
