The Nikon lens box is scuffed, the corners crushed a bit and the rear lens cap was loose when it was opened.
Thankfully, a quick test of the lens show it is functioning correctly.
The low rating is purely due to the packaging.
Excited to use it!
I've read so many reviews, blogs, posts in forums, etc, etc, that are obviously old school mindsets in wanting an all metal casing lens for some reason. For the life of me I cannot see why, because weather and weight. The material for this lens is extremely good quality! It doesn't even feel plastic like, but more like a high end composite material. The mechanics move very smooth! It's far better than I imagined.
I just bought the Nikon Z6ii, bundled with the 24mm - 200mm lens, but wanted the 1.8 for the 24mm solely for recording top down piano video in low light. The 24 is a must due to the limited height I can mount a camera and the 1.8 of course being best for low light conditions. If I truly didn't need the low light aperture of this lens, I would just stay with the 24-200. It's cheaper than this as well as much more versatile. The quality is nearly the same for 24, 35, 85, 105, etc, but again, the aperture is f4-6.3 so as long as you have the light, it's a fantastic all around lens.

- I paid 675 GBP on Amazon Market Place and boy, didn't l get a brand new lens at a discounted price. It was my first time buying at "AMP."
- I use this lens for filming the outdoors on a Nikon z6 and the results have been fantastic.
- I don't find manual focus to be difficult to achieve (not even on stars), although l do prefer the 'physical' feeling a 'real' manual lense provides (e.g. G lenses). All in all, l have no complains in this regard.
- The lens exhibits absolutely zero focus breathing. In my opinion, if only for this, this lens is already worth the asking price (for video work). I can be lazy and let the AF do the work for most shots on daylight knowing l won't have focus issues (once you know how the camera AF works and so you know what to do and what not to do).
- Silent AF. The lens motor will not ruin your shots unless you're filming in a very quiet environment and the AF is going all the way from fore to background and viceversa. In this specific instance, the camera mic (or external mic if close to the camera, about 1m close) will pick up the lens very quiet motor noise.
- Personally, l like the bokeh of this lens (easily achievable at f1.8 when close to the subject) and the sun stars. I find it a bit difficult to achieve sun stars without flaring. I haven't tested that much and I guess 50% is on me if no more as I don't usually go for such shots so I don't have much experience.
Overall, I would surely buy this lens again even at the asking price. For the type of filming I do, the lens is fantastic. I know the video footage l'll capture will look great (as long as you know what you're doing, of course) and I trust the camera AF with this lens so l'm using it almost all the time unless the environment isn't well illuminated.
For the record, l have 2 G lenses (28mm and 50mm) with which I was quite happy but now I find myself reluctant to remove the z lens from the camera.
