The Pros:
- The sliding table is well designed for straight cuts and bevel cuts. The miter is adjustable but is dead on at 0 and 45 degrees. The table slides well on the main track. The motor has plenty of power to make good, clean cuts.
- The assembly instructions are lacking but after staring at the instructions and the parts for several minutes, I finally figured it out. The confusing part is the motor arm assembly to the frame.
- After reconfiguring the water pump and putting a water pressure clamp adjustment on the plastic tubing, it works great (see Cons).
- I bought the table made for this saw and find it a good purchase. I don't recirculate water from the tray and installed a swamp cooler drain plug that flows directly into a 5 gallon bucket that sits on the floor. I thought I might need a drain hose but the water drips/flows OK into the bucket.
Cons:
- After reading all the negative reviews about pump failures, I bypassed the recirculating feature and have the pump sitting in a 5 gallon bucket of clean water. I took apart the saw head and redirected the vinyl hose to get most of the kinks out. I then connected the short hose from the arm to a longer piece that allows the pump to sit in the bucket that I have located on a small table next to the saw. I don't know if the pump will supply water up to the saw from ground level. I also put a pressure clamp on the hose to adjust the water flow on the blade. A small plastic diverter directs two streams of water to each side of the blade.
- The saw doesn't send out too much overspray but after an hour of cutting, there is water on the floor and on the wall directly in line with the blade. I set up the saw in my shop to see how much mess it created and have decided to leave it there for the duration of the project instead of cutting tile in the master bath for the shower.
All in all, this is a good tile saw. I'm getting good, accurate cuts and the sliding table works great. I also recommend buying the table that is specifically designed for the saw.
Other than knobs that look and feel cheap, the saw seems designed and built for professional use. The critical and frequently used switch is of high quality and is mounted in a good place. The motor has plenty of power and I found no discernible play in the motor shaft at the end of my project. The beefy saw head and arm is mounted to the aluminum frame with 6 large SS socket head bolts. Mine was perfectly aligned with the sliding tray. My 90 deg cuts were perfect, straight and square. I made near perfect angle cuts by aligning the edge of the blade with lines on the tile using a straight edge. I could easily pick which side of a thin pencil line to cut on. Other reviewers have said there's play in the table and head. I didn't find that on mine. However, there's 6 guide wheels on the tray. When using the full 24" capacity, only 4 wheels are in contact with the rails at the start of the cut. In this fully back position, mine had some slop. Once I discovered that (and slightly curved tiles), I marked and aligned the end of the tile on the long rips before I cut in order to get it perfect.
I did have two issues which were easily corrected; 1. The miter gauge had significant slop at its pivot point which I fixed by shimming the shaft with some foil. 2. Lots of water sprays out the back. I fixed the excess spray by cutting apart an old leather glove and clamping it, with the fingers hanging, down behind the existing rubber shield. Now, most of the spray ends back up in the tray except on the long rips where the 24" tiles hang out well past the tray at the end of the cut.
